The year is 1955. After successfully opening the first Nintendo forum (a small place in downtown L.A. where people paid money to be able to shout at each others their worst takes about hanafuda cards maker Nintendo), Jack D. Famiboards was able to secure enough money to fund his next venture : Famipark, an amusement park based on his forum.

The small family park is still thriving, and here are some documents distributed to visitors that our investigative reporter was able to retrieve during his last visit, which was today (no, buddy, you can't put that on your expenses account).

Before talking about this month’s releases, it should be noted that we have a thread dedicated to discussion about a potential Nintendo Direct : the wonderful Nintendo Direct Speculation ST, hosted by the equally wonderful Raccoon!

NINTENDO GENERAL DISCUSSION - ST21JUNE 2023

The year is 1955. After successfully opening the first Nintendo forum (a small place in downtown L.A. in which people paid money to be able to shout at each others their worst takes about hanafuda cards maker Nintendo), Jack D. Famiboards was able to secure enough money to fund his next venture : Famipark, an amusement park based on his forum.

To all who come to this thread: welcome. Famipark is your park. Here age relives pixelated memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of future games. The Nintendo General Discussion thread is dedicated to socialising, venting, chatting with friends about everything Nintendo and even more than that, with the hope that it will be a source of joy to all the members.

-

Formerly known as « the month of E3 », June is now a mess of various shows at various hours, turning a tiresome but organized week to a chaotic – and even more tiresome – month. What games will be announced? Will we have a Nintendo Direct? No one knows yet, but all we know is that there’ll be a lot more hype than video game playing, in true Famiboards fashion.

Before talking about this month’s releases, it should be noted that we have a thread dedicated to discussion about a potential Nintendo Direct : the wonderful Nintendo Direct Speculation ST, hosted by the equally wonderful Raccoon!

-

As far as we know, the month of June will be a slow month for Nintendo Switch releases, but all the Switch owners that have finished Tears of the Kingdom and/or won’t be busy playing Final Fantasy XVI will still have some new games to discover and add to their gargantuan backlog :

  • Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection (June 1st) : Ninety bucks for a collection of three DS games may seem like a ripoff, until you remember that they are great dungeon crawlers. Until you remember the beautiful scores by Yūzō Kushiro.Until you remember… well, it still sounds a bit like a ripoff, but we’ll pay anyway.
  • Harmony: The Fall of Reverie (June 8th) : Made by Don’t Nod, the studio behind Life is Strange, this new project will make you play Polly, a clairvoyant that can see the future and will have to try to stop the apocalypse. With beautiful 2D art, multiple endings, and an OST by Lena Raine, it could become of the indie darlings of the year.
  • Dordogne (June 13th) : Another 2D narrative game with a gorgeous art direction, Dordogne will make you relive the childhood memories of Mimi after her grandma passed away. It sounds like the coziest tearjerker ever made.
  • Sonic Origins Plus (June 23rd) : Adding twelve Game Gear games and the possibility to play as Amy in the first three games (and as Knuckles in Sonic CD), Sonic Origins Plus sounds like a great treat for Sonic fans, who will be able to purchase the new content for 9,99$ if they already own Sonic Origins.
  • Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life (June 27th) : Remake of one of the most beloved entries in the Harvest Moon series, A Wonderful Life will be another farming game in which you will recover an old farm bequeathed to you by a dead relative, fix it up, get rich, find love and have children, all to the rhythm of the seasons and the various festivals. Why change a successful formula?
  • Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE (June 30th) : Spike Chunsoft presents : a new game that is not a Danganronpa game. A « lucid-noir detective adventure game » in which you will have to solve mysteries in a rainy city under the control of a mega corporation.
  • Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (June 30th) : From Shu Takumi, creator of Ace Attorney, this cult DS adventure game that asks you, a ghost, to use your supernatural powers to save lives. Some very clever puzzles and an overall great vibe for a game that will come with remastered graphics and soundtrack.

-

Ice Breaker : This thread is following the tradition of having an ice breaker question for the community ; you will find it below. A winner will be picked from the people who quoted the question on June 7th: they will win a 15€/10$ eShop card (or whatever equivalent in their country)

This month’s question is simple : Which Nintendo IP would you pick for a theme park ride?

-
Finally, June is also Pride Month. As LGBTQ+ rights, and especially trans rights, are under attack everywhere on Earth, it’s more important than ever that we, members of this community and all allies, stick together. As all the website, this thread will keep being a safe space for everyone, but I would like to use this space to invite you, if you can, to donate some money to organizations fighting for trans rights, such as :

Hey it's not June yet!

Great ST though!

As for the theme park ride, I'm a wuss so I'd want something relatively slow and moody rather than high flying so maybe Eternal Darkness.

yahoooooooooo!

also honored to have my fami-face photoshopped onto the person who looks the most ready to cause havoc in that photo

wild ST, excellent work!

Firing on all cylinders with this ST, well done. I was actually one of the top posters in the last thread because everyone else was playing Zelda. 😅

Ah, new summer smell.

Love the tribute to theme parks in this month's OP, very well done. And how fitting, too - next week, I'll be in Osaka for my long-awaited Universal Studios Japan trip. Winning the Super Nintendo World Challenge is finally paying off. Super Nintendo World, here I come!
Which Nintendo IP would you pick for a theme park ride?
Well, uh, I can't exactly say "Super Mario," since that already exists...so let's go with Zelda, I think that would make for a killer dark ride. Let's see if the rumors of it replacing the Lost Continent come to fruition...

Holy shit you killed this, @Party Sklar ! Amazing job, and I am proud to be that random guy in the back of the class photo who tries to be only as visible as absolutely necessary

Wealth, fami, power... Jack D. Famiboards, the King of the Park, attained everything this ST has to offer. The words he uttered just before his death drove people to the thread: "A Direct? If you want it, you can have it! Find it! I left everything Nintendo has to offer there!" And so men head for Famiboards in pursuit of their dreams! The world has truly entered a Great Shitpost Era!

Edit: Dang, no One Piece fans here? lol

June being here means the limited three month window to listen to 311 without shame has begun, go go go!

Awesome ST @Party Sklar love the theme park map and of course the group pic :)

Going to be a good month with all of the gaming shows and a huge avalanche of awesome games. Most excited for Final Fantasy XVI and Rain Code this month and I'm also picking up We Love Katamari, Street Fighter VI, and Ghost Trick!

I had forty five minutes to play a game tonight. Did I play Zelda, a game that I haven’t had time to play in an entire week because life is just too hectic? Nope! I played Spongebob Squarepants Revenge of the Flying Dutchman for the GBA and I had a blast. I’ve had that game for twenty years and never beat it, but now it’s finally time.

@Irene I didn't get a chance to thank you for the last thread because I was playing Zelda and lost track of what day it was, sorry 😅

@Party Sklar rad new thread!!! Excellent theme and execution! I love it!

also honored to have my fami-face photoshopped onto the person who looks the most ready to cause havoc in that photo
holy shit you're right 🤣

Ok that's way better than the bad melodica version :ROFLMAO:

Okay well now I gotta:

Finally, we have reached the single most important month of the year for video games.

That’s right, happy Ghost Trick month everybody!

Oh, cool. A new monthly ST. Hello everyone! I hope June will be a good month for you all. Speaking of June, happy Pride month to everyone under the rainbow!

What a sad turn of events for Arkane Austin
Redfall always seemed like a haphazard mishmash of ideas, an attempt to blend Arkane's signature immersive sim design with an open world cooperative shooter. It was a project that didn't really play to their strengths. MS has a lot to learn regarding stewardship of their studios.

Redfall should be a lesson for devs and pubs ... instead of trying to chase the trends, come up with a project you have a clear vision and plan for. (Yes, i'm looking at you U-B-I-S-O-F-T)

Reading more of Schreier's article. Holy crap, 70% of the devs who worked on Prey left. That is rough, and highly disheartening to hear, since I loved Prey so much.
