Hello everyone! It’s time, isn’t it? Time for us to turn a page in this thing called life, and welcome a new month - and with that, a new ST.
This month, talk will perhaps revolve mainly around the potential of a June Direct. We have a dedicated thread for Direct speculation, the Nintendo Direct Speculation ST. (Link below) A potential Direct is bound to become the talk of the town over the entire site during the month. (However, it’s preferred that the bulk of the speculation discussion should be contained in the Speculation ST)
Directs are huge events, and this one has the potential to be an absolute smasher, with the promise of containing games that it’s worth being excited about, excitement that is more than welcome to be expressed, and shared. Everyone is here, everyone is welcome, and everyone is free to talk.
We’re not only approaching something big here, we’re also going to talk all things games, and life. Other gaming events are happening, and other releases are imminent, with Mario Strikers: Battle League and Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes kicking off a strong summer.
In general, though, June is a month of many colours. It’s the footsteps of summer, a smell of grass and roses, a pale blue sky. It’s, for many, the end of a school term, or memories of one. It’s the perfect time for a round of sports, or getting together with friends both new and old. Cold drinks. Warm smiles.
Now, let’s talk about the HOT , the COOL and the SCHOOL.
What’s HOT? (June)
Strike back: June 10th
Chasing a ball for 90 minutes - who does that? Some people do, and history has proven this to be an excellent premise for entertainment, one with the capacity to sell out arenas. It’s a party of sorts, and who never misses a chance to party, but Mario and his friends? Strikers is back, with promising previews, demo “kickoffs” and post-launch support to back this absolute beast of a sports game.
What character do you think you’ll enjoy the most?
Hopes and Houses: June 24th
The earnest Dmitri, the charming Claude and the intimidating Edelgard will arm their students to the teeth as they this time will do what Warriors game lets us do - go nuts with a variety of weapons, taking on large quantities of foes all at once. Three houses sported one hell of a character roster, ranging from cute lads to fab gals, one that fits the premise of a Warriors game excellently.
Which house are you looking forward to play as?
Rising Sun: June 30th
Monster Hunter Rise is a stellar romp, a celebrated IP clearing a new path for itself, and one who won the hearts of both new and old fans of the series. With Sunbreak, we’re getting a lot of the good stuff in the form of Master Rank quests, improved gameplay, new monsters and hunting locales, as well as various other tweaks. It’s hunting time again.
Will Sunbreak be reason enough for you to return?
Falling In Love : June 21
Fall Guys was a huge hit, one of those out-of-the-sky multiplayer success stories that hits like autumn love every now and then. Being a chaotic party game, it was bound to sooner or later nestle its way onto the Switch, which is happening this month. Sometimes, party and fun takes games a long way, and Fall Guys is bound to make people fall in all kinds of ways this month.
Were you part of the initial hype?
Speed of Sound: June 23
Icons never die. Well, some of them - but others refuse to fold, gets through all kinds of games both excellent, terrible, alright, mediocre and more alright, only to remain, still with fans, still with games. And Sonic is nothing if not an icon. With Origins, he returns in the form of rereleases of Sonic 1, 2, 3 and Sonic CD, remastered and ready to run. Not only that, but we’re getting new content and new modes as well.
What game in the collection are you playing first?
Yummy!!: June 30
Cuphead is style incarnate, the epitome of thoroughly devoting yourself to an aesthetic. This time, this marvelous DLC will introduce the players to Ms. Chalice, and her unique abilities, as well as the new location of Inkwell Isle. The game will once again offer frantic action against tough and intimidating bosses with, again, a thorough devotion to aesthetics.
Are you ready to eat?
What’s HOT? (Beyond)
Violet Hill: 2022
Whoa! We’ve barely caught our breath after the engrossing wanderings in Legends Arceus, and now another Pokémon-catching adventure is on the open world horizon. Explore at your own pace, make your own adventures and undertake another experience among friends, monsters and trainers alike. Scarlet/Violet is a gorgeous iteration for sure, and fans of the series better get their trainers on for Generation 9.
Which starter are you picking?
Third Witch Time’s the Charm: 2022
So close! Soon, maybe, hopefully, probably, we’ll meet again. It’s been too long, and it’s not a moment too soon. New style - both in aesthetic, combat and of course, hair - is bound to breathe fresh life into the Bayonetta series, as the third instalment approaches. We’ve seen bits and pieces of combat, but whatever crazy other stuff the game is going to throw our way this time is hopefully not going to be a secret for much longer.
What do you think of Bayo’s new looks?
Sparkling: 2022
Tumbling tactics awaits yet again, as Mario + Rabbids return. This time, we’ll take control of Mario and his friends using tactical combat to rescue Spark companions, rabbdis versions of Rosalina and the Lumas. We’ll be traveling far and wide in this one, reaching for the stars and planets where our quest will take us. We’ll see if Rabbid Peach documents this one on social media as well.
What needs to be Mario’s next mashup?
I Thought They Were Joking: 2022-2023
It’s an eternity. It’s cosmos itself. It’s intangible, infinite. It’s Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The gift that keeps on giving, giving, and then giving some more, a gift that is prepped for a batch of new courses, delivered 8 at a time, courses ranging from every previous game in the series. The courses are 48 in total, and will be released over both 2022 and 2023.
What has been your favorite new course?
[Blank] of the [Blank]: Spring 2023
Some call it a legend. Others has given it a subtitle of their own. Others call it the most important Nintendo game, period. Its existence in known space is almost as old as some people’s high school career. Will Nintendo’s approach to verticality and versatility redefine open world gaming - again? We’ll just have to wait and see if Nintendo can live up to expectations that are nothing short of astronomical.
When will we see it next?
Retrospect: TBA
After having been rebooted in 2019, an eerie silence has followed in the footsteps of this game. With nothing but a logo to go on, the Nintendo community is left to be excited over the idea of Metroid Prime, and what it means to follow up on such a prestigious series. With the recent success of Metroid Dread, and the existence of this game, it’s safe to say that the queen has Returned, capital R and all.
What excites you about the prospect of a Prime 4?
Glittering Gems
They sparkle, they glitter - and they put sparks in our eyes. They go under the radar, they sneak up on people, they have a modest budget, they get shadowdropped. They’re the gems, games that turns out to be pretty dang good. The Switch has proven to be a great platform for gems, witch games like Card Shark, Two Point Campus, OMORI, Bear and Breakfast and Oxenfree II being notable releases.
Is there any specific gem on your mind that has caught your eye?
On the Horizon
And there’s more. Of course there’s more. There’s both uncertainty and certainty in the vast future. What in the name of Koopa has EPD Tokyo got cooking? How will the next Fire Emblem look and feel? When will we see more Sports Story? One thing is for sure, though - some day. Some day.
What do you look forward to?
Sky’s the Limit
Of course, the games we look forward to playing are often the games we see when we’re awake. As soon as we close our eyes, though, the dreams happen. Seemingly impossible, ridiculous, pipe-dreams. But they’re still dreams, and they’re beautiful for what they are. Sometimes, they do become reality, and it’s a feeling both intoxicating and exhilarating.
What’s the dream?
Miscellaneous Funsies
While Famiboards is a Nintendo-centric forum, by no means is Nintendo the only developer sitting on exciting things for times to come. Whether you’re getting ready for God of War: Ragnarok, getting pumped for Final Fantasy XVI, or bracing yourself for Sonic Frontiers, Stray or Slime Rancher 2: the future has got you covered. Which, if any, other summer event are you watching?

What’s going to happen here?
The General Discussion threads are considered to be threads for, as the title suggests, general discussion concerning the funny peeps who operate in the giant Kyoto cube, and the games they or their partners make. But it’s so much more than that: Everything and everyone is welcome here, and talk is in no way restricted to Nintendo’s game output.
The General Discussion threads are mainly a gathering hub for the community. Whether you want to discuss games in general, post about what’s going on in your life, saying hi and being kind to other members, posting memes or kooky GIF’s, and everything in between, feel free to speak, and listen!
What’s expected of me?
- Show respect to other members.
- No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia etc. Harmful behaviour like this will have significant ramifications.
- Abidance of Famiboards general guidelines, i.e no spamming, drive-by posting, general hostility, piracy links, etc.
- Don’t antagonise. If disagreement arises, be civil.
I’m new on Famiboards. What now?
We’re thrilled to have you here!
Why doesn’t the list of upcoming games contain Advance Wars?
Nintendo has delayed the game indefinitely due to current world events, and we don’t know when we’ll see it next. Speaking on an honest, personal note, I figured that it would be strange and a bit uncomfortable to write an encouraging hype text about the game when Nintendo has decided to take it off the radar for very understandable reasons.
Famiboards has a thread that is a resource hub for helping people in Ukraine. (Link below)
