StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (Read the staff posts before commenting!)

So in terms of ‘what we know’ nothing has changed.

However I will echo the point that online discussions (Twitter and Reddit mostly) seem to be so detached from reality. Drake in a switch form factor would blow the Steam deck and ROG Ally out of the water in terms of technical achievement, (size/battery/power/price combo) although there is still room for a screw up in there.

Problem I’m seeing how people define power is outdated. Even if REDACTED is between 1 to 3 TFlops, does not mean it’s fallen behind. People forget that the SoC is different than Gen 8’s SoC and the memory is modern. Also with possible FSR2 and DLSS. Those features not possible with Gen 8, and faster flash memory storage.

“ps4? this will be again DOA

Again? LMAO
Yeah, again people will say 'nintendo is doomed', but after 3 or 4 years, you can't find a single of them.

One of the best content you can read on the internet is a thread on neogaf about the switch. The first page is truly gold. Thank God these people don't make a living predicting the future (at least I hope they don't lol)

i just read a comment on reddit talking about the switch 2. it read:
“ps4? this will be again DOA. anyhow, long overdue”
colour me baffled. how are people not understanding how big of a breakthrough that is? it’s a device smaller than an ipad mini.
this is what they WANT to happen

I just wanna know: since Pro was an option for the Switch family of systems, will we get a Switch 2 Pro?

I think I can see Nintendo trying a midgen significant upgrade to try and garner 3rd parties. If a docked Switch 2 is almost a PS4 Pro, then a docked Switch 2 Pro could almost be a PS5

I know his source for this tweet, basically the source gave him fake info about devkits just now going out, ("final" hardware devkits have been going out for months, and been able to be built since August/September last year). Hours after this source shared the information with the "leaker" he tweeted that... He isn't validating his sources at all. We only should trust 1 source for all our hard facts, and that of course... is @10k

Anyways, yeah that tweet is fake info, sorry I didn't see this, was actually told by the source mentioned above, that reddd mentioned me in a post. Right now information is going to be slow, production should be starting very soon if it does come out this year, but it should be this FY (ending exactly a year from now) however, I do think the end of this calendar year makes the most sense. People attribute Nintendo Switch's success as releasing in March instead of the holidays, which just is a hindsight problem, Switch could have easily sold 5 Million more units by the end of March 31st 2018 had they of released Holiday 2016, The reality is that holidays just have more space on retail floors because of holidays using endcaps, putting pallets on the floors and just filling up inventory in general, it literally is the difference between ~3 and ~5 million sales in a launch month.

Why I am so confident here, is that there is no known games after Pikmin 4, except MP4 which we have yet to see... The next direct will be brand new announcements and never seen before games, more over, Nintendo has a solid holiday, or they wouldn't have dropped MP1 in February for $39.99, the anniversary month which Nintendo has celebrated in the past is August, and if they had announced MP1 for August 2023 at $49.99, it would make a lot more sense than shadow dropping it at the end of a direct, digital only, for $39.99...

They also wanted the release to be positively received, and as a remaster/remake, they wanted it to look great, but if Drake were to be announced before it's release, people would have had too high of expectations for it, because MP1 was clearly done a long time ago, it was never meant for Drake, so at best, it would get a patch to run 4K, but assets and graphics were designed around Switch limitations, thus it wouldn't satisfy if Drake was on the market already, without going back and reworking it.

Drake is happening shortly, my GUESS is that we will see it in late June, during a digital event where they show off a bunch of games, and a launch this October or November, likely with 3D Mario, Zelda DLC, MK8D patch (among other evergreens), and Call of Duty, which I suspect Microsoft has asked Activision to port to the new hardware since they received final devkits. The current Switch will likely get a cloud version, as the Switch cloud company has a contract with Microsoft for Call of Duty over the next 10 years as well, in fact, in a weird way, the current Switch could see cloud versions of Call of Duty for the next 10 years... I think CoD Mobile and Warzone will also come to Switch as local versions of the franchise. Again, this is all just speculation, but yes "Switch 2" is probably being revealed this Summer, for this Holiday, and people who think it will come in Spring have to really ask themselves why Nintendo has nothing announced/dated after July, except for Metroid Prime 4, which is almost certainly not coming this year.

Bumping this regarding the dev kits questions, and the Switch 2 potential release date 😘

FSR2 is technically possible on those consoles though. Same for their successor systems.

I feel like Switch 2 will be around for longer than Switch 1 so that could be an option 4 years after the launch as a mid gen update before PS6 releases (2027-2028)

Congrats, you just became the very first of many, many people to speculate about a Switch 2 Pro.

One tweet misframed it and everyone latched on to that single tweet, despite other accounts providing further clarity on the comments -- but, for some reason, those tweets were ignored.
I’m only on social media when I’m posting feet for money, so I managed to dodge that. Here at least, I can yell and a few people listen.

I don't think it would make much difference for third party support if it wasn't meant to have exclusive games (and so be yet another generation in all but name). It would just mean that for the ports it could handle, the visuals could be scaled down somewhat less than they already will be.

I frankly find it more funny than frustrating. PS4 handheld has been my pipe dream since 2017 and that hasn’t changed in the slightest.

Why is it that every time we get some info to chew on about this console its always debunked moments later, no wonder people are going mad over this device

lol, reddit comments are fun. So many disbelievers in all the threads today covering Kotick's comments on the NG Switch. This one is my favorite:

"DLSS to 720p".

This user is not particularly familiar with the terms they are using nor the technology they are discussing.

PS4 power levels ain't bad at all, negative reaction for this is a little bit too blown up imo. It will likely have an entire DLSS system engineered for it, with the added plus of Unreal Engine (where the majority of those big 'AAA' games are being built on right now) being a very moldable engine to allow games to be ported to Switch with a bit more ease. It will work out. It simply will.

YOU WHAT?????

I'm not here to judge, do what you gotta do....

My technical knowledge is free, but the stuff of real value you gotta pay for.

This is a very smart take, actually, for someone who is wrong.

I think naming it the Nintendo Switch 2 would do it just fine. I feel like the general public has already got accostumed to thinks being called 2 = a sucessor with the likes of Playstation, i think it would be a better overall idea, although i'm not annoyed with the idea of it having some funny naming scheme or even an entire new name completely. They surely are balls mindful of not having the Wii U route occuring again, either way.

The negative people will be a minority. Many, like kotick, have learned their lesson from Switch. Any negativity when this is revealed will be minor.
