Still thinking 2023?
That's what the vast majority of the available evidence is currently pointing to, yes.

But what I think doesn't matter, I'm telling you to speak for yourself. Don't come here and say "we're finally coming around to 2024" like you know how most of us feel. That's not conducive to good discussion.

It was all in good fun but I'm sorry if I upset you.

This is what I was describing as heavy and what I needed 100% confirmation on before reporting.

I'll share what I have uncovered in recent months in the coming weeks. I've been chasing down this story and attempting to tie loose ends for a few months now. It's not something I wanted to touch without every angle being covered.

Just wanted to chime in for one second, but this type of commentary is annoying and not welcome at all. There’s multiple users that use this type of antagonism and then wonder why people respond the way they do to them. Please and kindly, don’t do this.

I'll try to reframe being playful in here in the future. My intent wasn't to upset anyone. I didn't realize this news would be so upsetting for people. I'm sorry.

"This" being?

this is a joke, I'm fine

One little dumb advice, try to always think in Fiscal Year terms. You can heard from you sources that next HW is aiming for an early 2024 release (thus a +1 year delay from your early late 2022/early 2023 release frame), but that would still be in the next FY, so it isn’t a mayor delay by Nintendo.

Context is required as this could be referring to anything really
TBF, Digital Foundry seems to just be Adlibing their thoughts on Drake, as Orin Nano has nothing to really do with much of anything
Also Fisical Year is a quirk of things, technically we are in FY2023 for Nintendo atm so FY2024 would be starting March 2023
But yeah, what the heck is going on atm? What news broke? or are people overreacting again.

So it seems that 2023 is already out of the question?

So it really seems like 2024 launch with new Mario Kart lol. This is the exclusive you want to launch system with, basically the money printer of them all.

I just hope that this does not mean that new titles from EPD Tokyo are next-gen exclusives then.

Thanks for commenting, Nate.

Ngl, I’m disappointed TotK won’t be on next gen hardware, at least when it first comes out. The game 100% doesn’t deserve to be struggling to run at 720-900p. I can see quite a few reviewers being harsher on the game because of it.

Obviously, it will still be an amazing game but would have been awesome seeing it at high resolutions and with extra effects on day 1.

I'd be shocked if they shelved something that they spent this much money on.

Maybe NVN2 is completely unrelated to Nintendo after all, wouldn't that be wild?

Every time I saw NVN2 I immediately thought of the old game, Neverwinter Nights 2 lol.

what a disappointing end to the saga

it's just one tiny casualty among the massive impact of the pandemic

In his Bayonetta 3 review, John suggested the game was designed with a more powerful hardware in mind that never saw the light of the day. He wouldn't have said so if he hadn't at least had some tidbits about the subject.

It would be financially untenable to shelve the next gen Drake based Switch if, as it seems it has, it has gone into production. A revision has been shelved, I'll believe. I remember the weeks before OLED Model was revealed that people were saying it was the DLSS model, then insisted they were right anyway.

Personally I trust the timeline stated by the factory worker, given his recent record re: OLED special editions. Full scale production begins soon™️.

...I mean, on the upside I'm saving >$600 in a speeding inflation economy, so, silver linings I guess? 🥲

At least we get our GoldenEye miracle sometime next year.

The mid-gen refresh planned for 2023.

Drake/NVN2 can still be the SoC for the next-gen hardware.
That's not how that works, that sort of SoC would've NEVER Been planned for a Refresh in the first place

The leap is Generational, not revisionary
A console built as a mid-gen refresh would've been something like TX1+ with a bigger GPU and LPDDR4X memory speed unlocked (Sort of what they were originally testing with Mariko, but further with a smaller node likely)

Drake/T239 is an architectural upheaval.

I agree with this but at the same time I think that ToTK will run better than some people think, BOTW on Switch was simple and really quick port with little to no adjustments. Not saying that ToTK will always run smooth as hell etc. but I think they mastered their engine and Switch hardware over the years that we should see some good results in May.

That was just commentary about the game and it’s terrible performance to him, not actually about new hardware. I wouldn’t read into it.

I think this is the correct interpretation. The "news" is that there is not a mid-gen refresh. That this is not that. That it will not be marketed as that. But as a generational leap. Which would align with everything we've heard.

I'm confused.

Dane is/was the Switch Pro, I thought it was obvious by now that it had been cancelled at this point. It would be useless to release a Switch Pro at this point when a successor makes more sense.

Also, Drake is Switch 2...How is this confirming that it won't release in 2023? Could it be a 2024 release? Sure, but it is strange that some people are jumping for joy at the thought of that.

this is a nerd distinction, not an insider distinction

it's like when that metroid prime hd scoop on era referred to noj and people said it must be fake

look at the context though, a viewer asked about 2023 and they say whatever was happening seemingly isn't and 2023 is off the table

Drake will absolutely live but with this info it's likely not the product we've been talking about
I am so based

No one ever said Drake was the SoC for the revision.

Cancellation of the refresh doesn't mean anything happened with Drake. Don't conflate the two things for pedantic reasons.
The problem is there was NOTHING related to any other SoC for a mid-gen refresh OTHER than drake.
This whole idea that a mid-gen refresh using anything other than Drake existed has no existing evidence versus the prospect of something using Drake

Mochizuki's news back in 2020 was him conflating the SWOLED with hardware that lines up almost perfectly with an SoC in the nature of Drake as releasing at the same time (When in fact SWOLED was in production and the developers were starting work on software for Drake)

There is no place in this timeline for a "hidden refresh" to exist outside of the out-there idea of a SWOLED-Lite or an Extreme-budget Switch using Mariko still.

This a somewhat suprised by this, because we all thought generations are done and they will just stop releasing hardware on current Switch down the road. If this is full on successor I still have no idea how can they make the software ready for it, which some of it would still be cross gen probably.

Are you being intentionally obtuse with the wording?
I'm going to be blunt, ReddDreadtheLead is saying what I'm thinking here:
Nate, I’m sorry if I come off as very confrontational here but you need to clarify what the hell you’re saying here because it makes absolutely no sense

No one was really thinking about a simple Switch revision since the OLED being just fancy Mariko Switch with no big changes in specs other than storage and screen.
When I followed the speculations (when I felt like it) I kept hearing Drake/NVN2 for 2023.
