I feel like sci-fi or technological aspects happen in Zelda when a specific dungeon, sequence of puzzles or gameplay idea requires a solution, and the artistic interpretation of that solution can either be magic or sci-fi (as in, a magic warp circle or an ancient Sheikah teleport tube, both have the same effect), rather than because it’s a central concept around the setting of the game. Zelda’s always felt led by mechanics rather than theme, with Hyrule having all manner of technology and magic hidden under suspicious looking rocks etc
Even Spirit Tracks- I suspect that originated from ‘what if exploration was a network of nodes with some hidden paths’ and then ‘you mean like an underground rail network’ rather than ‘what if Zelda with a steam train’. Same goes for Zelda as your ally in her spirit and knight form, which feels like it originated from ‘what if the central dungeon needed two characters with different abilities, like a puzzle platformer’ rather than ‘what if Zelda was with Link this time’. Although I think it’s high time Zelda took the lead, personally. How about “The Zelda of Legend: It’s About Time
