I have found an auditory shitpost so in-line with my musical tastes that I want to share it with y'all. This was added to my mega Spingsteen playlist without a moment of hesitation (and that includes a 6 song EP of Rick Ross x Boss mashups)

I wish Nintendo would revive their Hanabi festival thing on Switch. There are so many ways they could do this. How about a "Disk-kun curates" section on NSO where we get to play Famicom Disk System-versions of games? It's never gonna happen, but something like that would be so cool.

They gotta do Pokémon Legends Ho-Oh next. I want this style of game in Johto, the region with the most interesting history.
I know, right? Crystal/HeartGold has been my favorite Pokemon game since I played it. The atmosphere of that game is just beautiful. And Suicune is my favorite Pokemon! I sincerely hope they do either the Johto region next (we could see how Suicune, Entei and Raikou came to exist because of Ho-Oh reviving them), or the Kalos region (next favorite region, would be cool with the France vibes and we could see the origin of the battle from 1,000 years ago that AZ was there to witness).

Making pancakes 🥞 so I'm gonna reply to some random things I quoted.

I love Breath of the Wild, but playing past Zelda titles has made me miss two small conventions which should never have been dropped:

1) an interesting title screen. The two N64 games, and Twilight Princess, are probably Peak Title Intros for me. Wind Waker is pretty nifty, too. For Breath of the Wild, the title screen could have been something like the initial title reveal at E3 2016; the logo appears with a different section of the overworld in view each time.

2) Chest fanfare. Obviously, the sheer number of chests in BotW means the chest fanfare being present isn't feasible. But surely for more significant chests, this can be a thing.

The Ocarina of Time title screen has to be one of the most nostalgic ever made. Just thinking about it for the briefest moment I hear the clink of the piano keys and the footfall of Epona's hooves. They could bottle that nostalgia and rake in the rupees.

shocked how good Robobot is after finishing Triple Deluxe. strong Sonic and Dreamland 2 vibes

This makes me excited to try the original Sonic games. I love Robobot. Star Allies in SP was a disappointment for me coming off the strength of RTDL, Triple Deluxe and Robobot. I'm hoping Forgotten Land will have the compelling SP level design of those games (but whichever form that would take in 3D). I'm really hyped for that game. But yeah - Robobot is inspired and IMO the series hit its highest points this millennium on 3DS.

I completed TOEM together with my 11 year old daughter - it was one of the most fun games we've ever played together, a really wonderful and cosy game with lots of heart. We loved exploring the world and interacting with the characters, fulfilling all their quests. We loved the magic and mystery of the world and it's lore. We loved the art and music One of the best, cleverest, sweetest Indies we've played on Switch!

Thanks for the TOEM rec! I'd thought it might be too simplistic with the photo gameplay (if I'm thinking of the right game) so I'm really pleased to hear this - I can't turn down a clever and sweet game! Adding to my list now.

People are freaking out over M&M's......
Literally who cares. There M&M's, they're already bad lol (Smarties for life)

It was great, yeah. Even better, Kirby and Bayo 3 weren't spoiled for me, so I freaked out when I saw both.

People who don't eat Unreal are missing out. They're so much better than M&Ms. Love that legit chocolate.

1. They were terrible. They're still using the fog effects from the PS1/N64 era. As soon as I put my mask on, an unexplained mist covered my glasses in order to hide all the loading that was happening around me. They also have motion blur and I couldn't figure out how to turn that off. 🤢🤮

2. I'm told that it was 35 degrees outside, which I assume is normie speak for frame rate. So pretty garbage, tbh.

I laughed so many times reading this. And re-reading it. Never stop being you, WhyS.

Is Banjo Kazooie good for a first time player in 2022, or is it more of a nostalgia thing? Also, how long is it?

For me personally I really enjoyed B-K as a kid and I was surprised how much I didn't enjoy it trying it again on a couple occasions as an adult. My wife loves platformers and having never played B-K in the 90s she couldn't get into it at all. I think it mostly comes down to whether you're intrigued by early 3D Metroidvania-esque gameplay with clever lock-and-key situations. I really like that in 2D but in early 3D games it's so much about the wonder of exploring an early 3D space that for me that hard to replicate as a feeling today. I hope that makes sense. The OST is still incredible though.

I would love for a modern B-K (or YL) to incorporate the kind of engaging moment-to-moment platforming and setpiece gameplay present in games like SMG/2 and SMO.

Ironically as a kid I thought Crash looked super boring and just wanted to explore the big 3D worlds in SM64 and the Rare games, but now I love the original Crash games, especially the first two, and I think their corridor-based level design is an excellent precursor whose legacy you still see today in 3DL/3DW.

Whatever happened to the Whatcha Playin This Weekend threads? I always enjoy seeing what everyone is playing.

although those threads are proof that you people actually play video games which is obviously illegal.

I think @Plum was the one making them and I hope they make them again in the future because I always enjoyed reading them a ton!

Five Guys is good, but as a Midwesterner, I feel I must stan Culver's as the one true Fast Foot burger.

I like 5 Guys but not as much as In-N-Out. Their cajun fries are bomb, but their burgers are soggy messes most of the time, and the lettuce, tomatoes, etc. always taste cooked rather than fresh. The 5 Guys restaurants near my house were busy at first when they opened, but nowadays they are ghost towns. It’s where you go when the line at In-N-Out is too long.

That said The Habit has been my goto as of late. I really dig their double char Santa Barbara style.

Yeah, I'm in the mid-atlantic region. No Culver's anywhere nearby lol.

However, I have family in the south, and I'd take Cook Out over Culver's I think. I love that place.

Man these burger posts were so nostalgic. I haven't thought of The Habit in years. I really like pretty much all the burger places here. I've found Five Guys super hit and miss, but when it hits it really hits so I'm bummed they don't offer gluten-free buns like a lot of places do now. Same for Cookout though for me it's their chicken sandwiches and quesadillas I like best. I think my favorite burger spot overall is Fatburger though I haven't had it in years. I also really like what I had at Umami Burger years ago.

I'm irrationally sad about this. I loved seeing Sega everywhere while I was in Japan, and when people in the west would talk about what a failure Sega has been I used to be able to say "but go to arcades and entertainment districts in Japan and they're royalty." But now, not even that.

Even Yuji Naka is sad:

Translation:

😢

That Yuji Naka tweet is so endearing. I translated it as my Japanese study for the day and it has been more of an "aww" feeling in the original Japanese.

Major first-world problem here:

I want something to watch whilst I build a big Lego set, but I've gone through most of the good long-form free Youtube content and I don't know what to watch on any of my paid subscription services.

Can anyone recommend any good long-ish documentaries or similar? Not sure I really want to get into a fiction show whilst building Lego.

Yes! I have some recs for you if you're still interested.

Hope everyone here had a less stressful weekend than I did.

Hoping you are having a less stressful weekend this time around!

Is this the baseball sport everyone is talking about?

264670-1.jpg

This was fun but took me so many tries. I can't wait for the next 2D Zelda. And I'd he so happy to replay LBW on Switch.

Forget the Bungie stuff, the real shocking news is the conclusion to the Twilight Princess manga.

I'm shocked it was still going on all these years! What happened in it?

The Desert of Doubt in Four Swords Adventures is very fun and a noticable step up in quality over what came before.

(I'm going through FSA with friends right now and it's pretty good.)

Cool to hear this! I've been wanting to try it for years. I wish there was a way to do MP that didn't require multiple GBAs. I have the game but don't have GBAs. I heard SP is pretty good but probably not the same experience.

I was looking at Nintendo's Tokyo office on Google Maps and it's only a few blocks away from a Denny's. Truly the best place to work in gaming.

Japanese Denny's is probably so good. From what I've seen in jdramas the "family restaurant" as they call them, or diner-type places, usually look amazing.

I'm liking what Google Images is turning up here!

The classic Denny's logo is an awesome touch.

No dennys where i live but theres a danny’s

Pls tell us more about Danny's

Imagine finishing 2022 with Botw2 then starting 2023 with a new 2D Mario in January and Xenoblade 3 in March ? That would be so sick.

I'm still imagining we get BOTW 2 and 2D Mario this year 😎

Just wrapped-up a three hour workshop I had to facilitate for work. Feels really good to get public speaking engagement over with. Even after years of experience doing presentations and knowing that I do them really well, I always feel really anxious the days leading up to them. I hate the feeling, but there is no sense of relief quite like getting over it.

Kudos on making it through that! I'm the same way. I always feel anxious before them, and I've never done one that's longer than an hour. I think it's natural. That is so impressive that you can do one for three hours.

Why has Nintendo abandoned the Miiverse for the Switch ? It was one of the best thing about the WiiU, they could have made it even better.

I miss Miiverse, too! I hope it comes back in some form one day. It'd be awesome if FamiBoards could have its own Miiverse somehow. 🤯

What's up with mainstream gaming media reporting that the PS5 has beaten the lifetime sales of the Wii U in a little more than a year like it's some kind of achievement? It would have been an absolut disaster if it hadnt :p

Also, I'm about 15 hours in to Skyward Sword by now - and I've been thinking about the outrage with the added perk of the Amiibo. I'm not even sure it's giving any advantage at all so far.. so what was up with the outrage really? ppl just wanted to be upset about something?
Pretty much, yep. It's a minor advantage in a few small parts but nothing significant.
Did their dog look like this little guy? He loves loafing around (preferably on a pillow of his "brother", Atticus) and being tucked into bed for cuddles.

Is the local college Subway still intact, or did they demolish and build a Firehouse Subs in its place?

What a cute doggie! More pics pls

All I'm still missing are the handheld game successors, which we are more likely than ever to get with how many big titles are on the map and the Wii U Port well drying up.

Dread (sort of), Wario Ware and Advance Wars started things off, now I'd like..

  • Original 2D Zeldas (wind waker art style bonus points)
  • Kirby Mass Attack Sequel
  • Nintendogs revival
  • Rhythm Fucking Heaven
  • 2D Sonic (Rush style)
  • Pokemon Conquest Sequel (didn't play the original but why not)
  • Wario Land

And also these, but more console-tier scale
  • Kid Icarus
  • 2D Mario
  • Mario RPG
  • DKC

And then while I'm dreaming
  • Splatoon spin-off (assuming 3 stays pretty standard with its story)
  • Turn pokemon home into an actual game like stadium
  • Pikmin
  • Kirby Airride 2
  • Wii Sports Resort Sequel

Whoops this turned into a Direct speculation post lol, where's my editor

This would be such an incredible lineup for us 3/DS fans. I would love to see another Mass Attack one day. That's probably the most under-appreciated Kirby out there. The subgames were particularly amazing, too - heck we got a Pinball sequel in there!

so no love for color splash

Speaking of under-appreciated games. Color Splash had such unique and inventive settings and setpiece, and a masterful OST.

I just cleared level 4 of Little Nightmares. Now I'm upset.

It's ridiculous how much better food I eat and how much money I save when I go on a diet. Making some white chicken chili tonight, about $15 in ingredients and it will be dinner for the next 4 days.

This is an incredible post.

The industry just doesn't have room for three powerhouse consoles, it never has.
It's like three big apex predators trying to share the same ecological niche, just doesn't work.

Nintendo has found their own niche in which they are wildly successful; giving that up just to rejoin the incredibly expensive graphics arms race against deeply entrenched opponents would be most unwise.

Besides which, honestly, an industry of three samey consoles would just be boring to be honest. The fact that they do things differently is one of the things I love about Nintendo, it's part of their special magic that makes them unique from everyone else.

You got as much chance of that happening as him not going off on a tangent with some story from his past.
He’s the absolute worst. He’s gross and annoying and not ever funny, and he’s got awful takes. He’s almost reason enough to quit listening to the Spawncast.

People still listen to the Spawncast?
My apologies, I forgot that everything you listen to is cool and hip, and everything you don’t listen to sucks. I’ll keep that in mind for future reference.

People still listen to the Spawncast?
Its good. So many different group of people their plus the rotating guests its nice to watch when you cant sleep or something big happen in the industry. Tho loved leaker segment this week where they had Yatch Club PR/Marketing talking about leaks and how it effects them.

Tried a thing that turned out well. Wife found this from half baked harvest (food blog if you want some good recipes and haven’t heard of it). It’s a crispy cheese pablano avocado burrito. Basically make a hash with potato, onion, black beans, and poblano pepper (and seasonings).

Then fill a burrito with hash, salsa, avocado, cilantro, and cheese.

Then you layer jalapeño slices and cheese in a skillet, melt it into the burrito and fold.

Goddamn that looks good

Damn every time I see an OLED on social media I get a lil bit of FOMO…

Just gotta hold off… for the pro… or 2 or whatever
I would love to get one for 13 Sentinels and Triangle Strategy, but my OG Switch is still going strong so I'm better off saving my money.

Hard Drive - Arlo Rejected From the Muppets for being a Gamer
“Arlo is a great guy, but let’s be honest, gaming YouTubers just have a certain stigma attached to them,” said Kermit the Frog. “He clearly knows his stuff, but I just don’t know if I can trust the judgment of someone who didn’t enjoy Paper Mario: The Origami King. I mean, sure, it’s not exactly like the old Paper Mario games, but does it need to be?”
Thought I'd just post this here :p

Absolutely. One of my favorite moments in BattleBots history:

aww they didn’t make the video available to view in Canada

it’s been ages since I partook of the sweetest nectar: robot violence

Off topic (I mean, I was told that anything goes here), but does anyone else remember the lead-up to MGS5's release having some pretty awesome trailers.

I can only remember the trailers for Assassin's Creed II and Brother being that good.

Oh no

I thought I'd moved on from that disappointment

But you've brought back the pain once again

The... phantom pain...

that’s SRWX down, managed to do it over a shorter time period quicker than V. Just under 70 hrs on this one so I cut off over 10 from V. Got 49 SR points and the 4 medals other than that one. Here’s my final top 5 aces

IMG_4643.jpg

Was a good time. Taking a break before I play 30(plus waiting for the mined SP2 to drop)

I wonder if we have any SRW wars fans who can guess what move I used and abused on number 1 XD
