All the people I've seen cheerleading this online has made me feel so icky. What a sad state the video game industry (and fandom) is in right now that corporate consolidation is the big new trend and ammunition for fanboy wars.

I hope Nintendo stays out of it.

It's always worth keeping in mind that whilst Geoff is more connected than the average leaker no one has known about any of the big acquisitions before they happened/were announced.

J/k there is a denny’s where i live in fact there are five denny’s in a five mile radius AMERICA’S DINER

Okay I change my mind on industry consolidation. It's invading my theme park landscape as well. Make it stop.

Good for the developer, cashing in while its still hot.
What will come first, NYT charging for it or Wordle losing its popularity?
tbd

don’t get me wrong part of me is happy for the guy who made a lil browser game and can now maybe pay off student loans or have a house or maybe even someday not work into the grave

unless he’s already able to do that, which is like, hmm, wild, can’t relate

but at the same time I’m like… hmm

it just

everything about the culture and nature of acquisitions, any kind, really sits uneasy with me

the pursuit of ownership

so many things divorced from the creative minds that molded them

not always for the worse, even

and yet…

creation as the ball in a shell game smack dab in the middle of the hungry hungry hippos, scale untold, clamoring after resources — not food but thought, pieces stripped and assembled by teeming hands, a galaxy of “assets” and flotsam and shrapnel as the largest spheres gain the highest gravity, building scrap golems to tower, direct and sway

for what?

to own?

to do it more and again?

to piecemeal the universe?

for what and for whom?

forever?

forever?

introducing the shitpoetry abyss, just acquired by the New York Times!

I know some people don't like talking about other forums but I'll just say that for a forum that prided itself on shouting the evils of capitalism, even when it wasn't appropriate, many people are now cheerleaders for corporate consolidations and not because they see it as some benefit to themselves, but because they just want to play stupid console war bullshit online. It's funny how all that anti-consumer nonsense goes away when it's your platform holder of choice making billion dollar deals for games you never cared about until now.

In acquisition news, I was able to acquire a discounted physical copy of Tetris 99 from Walmart for $20. So basically paid for a year of NSO to get a cart and the DLC. Might upgrade to the expansion pack now since that took care of a decent chunk of the extra cost.

Sad news, famis. GilvaSunner, biggest video game music channel on Youtube, will be deleted.

Bummer. I have a couple of other channels that have had to completely shut down and reset due to these. It’s irritating since lots of songs aren’t available.
I can't help but be overly optimistic and think this is because Nintendo is about to dump their music library onto streaming services.
Unlikely, but who knows. Didn’t they go after a bunch of Mario soundtracks when 3D all stars was coming out since that had the albums? I think Nintendo is just super protective.

Geez. Bad news just won't stop, eh.
And February just started. Prepare for more.

At some point, people don't want to play this game anymore, i.e. get your channel deleted and create a new one.

Streaming Services?

You must mean Nintendo Online + Music Pak

Pay an extra $20* a year instantly** to access all*** of Nintendo's large**** library of classic music

*On top of an existing NSO subscription. Can only access on Android phones for some reason.
**Once music has been added on the 2nd-or-3rd Sunday after the silver wolf howls at the full moon
***No Earthbound, Xenoblade, Kirby or Smash music cause Nintendo's too shy to ask the creators
****Library is not large

Lord, give me the optimism of a Sony fan who thinks that if they buy Capcom they’ll bring back Mega Man Legends and Breath of Fire.
Clearly Nintendo is buying Capcom solely to position Mega Man Legends as the replacement to fill that classic Zelda void.

Why leave music on Youtube and rake in that Content ID money when you can just let people go out of their way to download your stuff for free so you don't see any money.

Seems like a no brainer. Any day now....
Honestly I think they will. They have, for a few years now, been trying to transition from "video game company" to "IP house who makes games." They want their IP to be household names. Mario is not a video game character, he's a character who just so happens to be in games. I think a great way to make sure their IP stay in people's heads is to let them access their IP in every possible way, to make that IP a part of people's daily lives. People listen to music doing just about everything these days. It would help Nintendo cement their brands as integral to people's lives if, for example, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's soundtrack was on their workout playlist. Or if Mario music helped them shovel that driveway. Or if Zelda music helped them study.

Not advocating for an acquisition, but a Nintendo EPD-developed (and reimagined) Mega Man game is one of my dream games.

Imagine finishing 2022 with Botw2 then starting 2023 with a new 2D Mario in January and Xenoblade 3 in March ? That would be so sick.

Bop your heads off to those bangers while they are still available on YouTube, Fami.

You say that as if "X-men in the MCU!!!!!" wasn't the prevailing opinion on Disney buying Fox

I wasn't a big fan of that either even though I would love to see the X-Men in the MCU. I mean being bought by Disney is better than fucking Comcast but I don't think Disney having a stranglehold on cinema is good either.

Nintendo attacking soundtracks on YouTube while failing to make their soundtracks easily available is rubbish.
extremely nintendo move

at least other companies that are terrible at surfacing their back catalogue of games and music don't litigate the fans doing that work out of existence
