I hope the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters get announced in the Direct. They've been out quite some time on PC and Mobile, have had time for patches and internal fixes, I think the time for console releases would be a nice surprise. Either a bundle physically/digitally, but they'll probably sell them each digitally like they do currently on PC and Mobile.

That would be a pretty solid day one line-up, don’t you think? A little bit of everything. SML2 is infinitely better than SML, which is probably the worst Mario game, but you gotta start somewhere. I’m assuming Nintendo would probably want to launch with ten games and add more over time, as they did with the N64, rather than add a whole bunch of games all at once and then burn out sooner.

The last three are probably the biggest stretch, since they have to be licensed, but Nintendo has added Natsume games to NSO before.

I’m just assuming Pokémon would be a no go.

I think Nintendo can afford to go bigger on numbers with GB/GBC simply because there are a minimum of 70 games that can come to the service; with third parties, it's easy to see that being closer to 100, perhaps more. SNES started with 20 games and NES with 30, so I see that as a ballpark for GB, given the size of the library rather than N64 (N64 might eventually reach 40 plus total, if we're lucky).

I also think Pokemon games will come to NSO this time. It's one reason why I think GB/GBC and GBA will all end up on the Expansion Pack rather than the basic subscription. Now, whenever GBA launches, I do think that'll be a smaller launch library (10 to 15 games).

Edit - the interesting challenges with a GB library are whether GB and GBC count as the same system, and the massive disparity in libraries across different regions. Huge chunks of the Color library in Europe and the US were licensed games, so there may not be that many GBC games Nintendo have access to (versus the GB).

I am of the opinion that fake leaks are nice and comforting to read. I don’t know why. But it always gets me in the mood for a Direct.

Skittzo answered well for me earlier today, but yeah it’s a matter of positioning. Pro has always meant it was like PS4 Pro or the Xbox One X, better visuals but no exclusive software. Switch 2 meant the successor console is a clean break between hardware like Wii to Wii U or PS4 to PS5. Gen 2 Switch meant more like Game Boy to Game Boy color for the Nintendo comparison or like a new phone model. There will some exclusive software, but a large cross gen period, before it inevitably becomes the main focus. Aside from the new graphics, form factor and firmware will closely resemble the original Switch.

The Legend of Zelda + Rabbids: Breath Battle

Includes a new breathalyzer peripheral that changes the gameplay based on blood alcohol content. This is the launch of the Nintendo health initiative in the same vein as the vitality sensor.

Anticipation for BotW2 and the Metroid Prime remaster are the only things that are sustaining my hype for this Direct right now.

• Splatoon 3 will already be out by then
• Pokémon is getting a separate trailer
• They've already shown enough of Bayonetta 3 to secure my purchase
• Switch Sports Golf update is kind of a known factor and probably not even a part of the Direct
• Stinky Horse is unlikely to be shown here and might also be so utterly bad that the novelty factor doesn't make up for it
• Very much looking forward to Advance Wars but don't wanna get my hopes up for a release anytime soon

The other rumoured stuff I'm a bit cautious of. Fire Emblem is seemingly more or less finished but there's always the chance that they keep the announcement for early next year. A Kid Icarus Uprising remaster would be a dream announcement but the source seems a bit iffy (still not sure if Grubb is just referencing Zippo or if he has heard it separately). I want to believe in Donkey Kong but I don't want to taste the mushy banana of disappointment. The GC remasters that are getting some buzz don't interest me very much. So aside from trailers for Zelda and Metroid I'm only hoping for some surprises at this Direct.

You know, in a theme park that's ostensibly supposed to be the Mushroom Kingdom, it's funny (if totally inconsequential) they just...plunked down an actual location from 3D World (Mt. Beanpole), which is decidedly not part of the Mushroom Kingdom. And for extra measure, it's the Yoshi ride. You know, everyone's favorite 3D World character!

i am probably the only person who cares about this and it does not impact my excitement to go to super nintendo world in the slightest

If the next 2D Mario game looked like the 3D World style from Maker 2, I would be very pleased.

Hot take: 3d world is one of the cleanest looking games on switch and has a more cohesive art style than odyssey

I mean...you're not wrong, and I love the look of 3D World, but to be fair, the lack of cohesion in Odyssey is the point. It's trying to be nonstandard in each world to emphasize the globetrotting feeling of travel. You're not in the Mushroom Kingdom and it's immediately clear that you aren't just from the wild visuals, an exaggeration on going to different places in real life.

I feel like people forget about Bowser's Fury. It was a fantastic Mario game and it isn't even that old.

I think the placement of Bowser's Fury as an expansion on 3D World rather than a standalone product hurt its mindshare. A shame since it's indeed fantastic, and the true "second 3D Mario game" on the Switch.

The actual look of Mario himself in Odyssey is my favourite look for the character.

They did a great job of adapting the character to a more realistic look.

I agree. The problem was how they used similar variants in four games released in fairly short succession. It got very old, very fast.

The fact that NSMBWii, NSMB2 and NSMBU share, like, 75% the same soundtrack on top of all the level trope similarities and the quick release structures definitely contributes to the feeling that all these NSMB games are too similar to each other.

They should just cancel the Paper Mario series. It's time for Plastic Mario.

But the New Super Mario Bros. games already exist!

No idea why everybody here has no faith in a Fire Emblem announcement. The game was leaked by the localization team, meaning not only development is ended but localization too. Perfect opener, I feel there's absolutely no chance it misses this Direct.

This has always bothered me too, lol. And Nintendo keeps making this mistake somehow! Like, Mario Strikers: Battle League has a stadium that is clearly based on Super Bell Hill/Mount Beanpole from 3D World, but with added mushrooms and they call it “Mushroom Hill” which kinda implies that it’s from the Mushroom Kingdom.
