No idea why everybody here has no faith in a Fire Emblem announcement. The game was leaked by the localization team, meaning not only development is ended but localization too. Perfect opener, I feel there's absolutely no chance it misses this Direct.
They've been sitting on it far longer than usual already. If they show it it's because they want to and think it's the right time, not because localization is finished. That's completely irrelevant.

My new official guess for the Zelda title is The Legend of Zelda: The Hands of Time. Link has a magic hand that turns back time, time as a theme is a Zelda (and especially a Breath of the Wild) staple, and reversed music was even in the original teaser. I think it conveys a lot already, and could potentially be part of a broader theme of the game; Nintendo has said that revealing the final title will give away too much.

Three things to consider with next week's BOTW 2 trailer (yes, I'm willing it into existence):

1) How long is the trailer?
2) Do we get the title reveal?
3) Do we get a specific release date?
Saving the title even longer would become a little silly in my view. If there was a moment to reveal it it'd be now. (Except if they wanna ship the game with a sticker on the title to maintain the surprise until you're playing it :p). February might be too close to release to do it.

So I'd say yes to 2, but no to 3. They're probably not sure about that until closer to launch.

I'd be very content with an E3 2016 equivalent. 2017 style trailer with separate gameplay would be the dream, but I think it's a little too early for that.

I've been totally wrong about zelda up till now and will likely remain so xD

1) I say in the 3-5 minute range. We're due for a longer one!
2) Yup, it's gotta be there. ...right?
3) Ehh I'm on the fence for this one. If it's soon? Absolutely. If not? Probably a non-specific "late 2023". But fingers crossed!

The Hands of Wands. Let the pronunciation wars begin.

I like it but I don't think they'd do a second game with the word time in the subtitle. They've done "past", "time" and "ages", I think they'd find another time related word if that's the theme.

The Legend of Zelda: The Hand of Clock

honestly a real good one of these "leaks" would legitimately not give away the name i think. i wouldnt be surprised whatsoever if its locked away like how the e3 direct didnt show journalists the botw2 announcement

"Leakers" need to stop making title guesses based on previous trailers. Nintendo told us that we don't have a title yet because it's a spoiler. It's not something we can just guess.

hahaha this is very validating

that post originally read "the theme park is literally from 3D world" but I couldn't find a good embeddable screenshot of mt beanpole
You know, because Super Nintendo World uses the more standard trees over the bell trees and uses those checkerboard boxes, Mount Beanpole in at Super Nintendo World looks like a mashup between it and Ready Rolling Hills, which I guess works to avoid making it stand out too much from the Mushroom Kingdom locales.
This has always bothered me too, lol. And Nintendo keeps making this mistake somehow! Like, Mario Strikers: Battle League has a stadium that is clearly based on Super Bell Hill/Mount Beanpole from 3D World, but with added mushrooms and they call it “Mushroom Hill” which kinda implies that it’s from the Mushroom Kingdom.
Isn't...not Mushroom Kingdom inspired? Like, the grass style, the background mountains, the usage of the fortress, those are right from the standard Mario design. But it's also clearly trying to evoke the blocky mountains of the Sprixie Kingdom. I guess Nintendo wants to have their cake and eat it too?

I’m imagining, where just like in Skyward Sword you point your sword skyward to charge it, we get LoZ: The Hands of Time where you use the two joycons in each hand as though they were the hands of a clock and you have to physically wind counter clockwise to turn back time

Aside from "A Link", has a Zelda game's subtitle ever reused part of another's subtitle like that? I feel like it's not going to be a "the" name either.

What I don't get is the obsession of some of these fake leakers of making up extremely edgy Zelda titles when existing Zelda titles are anything but. Is it a desire to will into existence the "Zelda... but mature!" game that a lot of people wanted?

A title like "The Legend of Zelda" would almost be impossible if it were made today. It's a relatively long title with an unfamiliar name and the name of a woman at that. Game companies like naming their titles to be really simple with well known words. Destiny. Uncharted. Halo, Horizon. Dark Souls. Control. Anthem was called Anthem because it sounded more marketable (although the working title of Beyond wasn't that more descriptive).

The great thing about Zelda game names is we're never going to guess what they are ever
Literally nobody would have ever predicted "Breath of the Wild". I think we're all used to the title by now but at the time it felt so out of left field.

What was the supposed leaked game for Zelda Wii U (before we knew BotW was the title) that managed to gain some traction? It had like "King" in the title or something.

Imagine wasting a word as cool as "phantom" on a game as mid as Phantom Hourglass

I'm going to go out on a limb and say there is a massive element of the game--a gameplay mechanic, piece of the world, something like that--that has yet to be revealed, and that will inform the title. And it's something that no one could predict right now.

Yeah we need more cool words in our guesses.

The Legend of Zelda: Vitrification of the Stone
The Legend of Zelda: Fiddle of Dawn
The Legend of Zelda: Vivification of the Snuffle
The Legend of Zelda: Verisimilitude of Orangutan

I think BotW2 is going to keep the "X of the Y" naming scheme to communicate it's a sequel without just titling it BotW2. Personally I'm partial to Reach of the Zonai because it has triple wordplay going on:
  1. In the most literal sense, reach refers to the hand
  2. "Reach" as in the Zonai's cultural heritage
  3. "Reach" as in the new areas to explore, like the sky islands and whatever else

If I were to name the sequel I’d personally do “The Legend of Zelda: The Reaches of Time” to get the double entendre of Reach like a hand but also Reach as in a large expanse of land, but then also like you’re reaching for the sky and then technically also because the sky zones seem to have some ancient civilization thing going on the sky area is sort of like reaches (of land) of time (because they were lost to time)

Feel free to cringe at your own leisure

@Paxie lol at us posting at the same time with essentially the same idea

I'm remembering the time when the E3 2004 trailer of Twilight Princess (before we knew it was called Twilight Princess) first premiered, and people on GameFAQs interpreted the tagline "blades will bleed" as being a hint to some kind of gameplay mechanic. I recall someone actually speculating the title of the game would be "The Legend of Zelda: Bleeding Blades."

I think Nintendo can afford to go bigger on numbers with GB/GBC simply because there are a minimum of 70 games that can come to the service; with third parties, it's easy to see that being closer to 100, perhaps more. SNES started with 20 games and NES with 30, so I see that as a ballpark for GB, given the size of the library rather than N64 (N64 might eventually reach 40 plus total, if we're lucky).

I also think Pokemon games will come to NSO this time. It's one reason why I think GB/GBC and GBA will all end up on the Expansion Pack rather than the basic subscription. Now, whenever GBA launches, I do think that'll be a smaller launch library (10 to 15 games).

I sort of think GB/C and GBA apps will be added simultaneously, with GB/C for regular subscribers and GBA for “+ Expansion Pack” subscribers. So 10 games at launch for each system would represent 20 new games being added to the service at once. But you’re right that it definitely could be more (which would be welcome).

I think Nintendo sort of played themselves launching so many SNES games at once, leading some people to lose their shit when the flow of games slowed to a trickle and they were basically left releasing the dregs. It would be better for them to have a long-term plan for a slow roll-out, I think, as much as I want all the games on day one.

They used Phantom for the The Phantom Menace. Can you really say that the word Phantom is that cool given its track record?
Definitely controversial, seems to be better suited as part of the primary title depending on the medium (Phantom of the Opera, Phantom Brave...)
Somebody that's not me should look into this and present their findings.

Oh, and official BotW 2 prediction:

No new trailer. No release date, no title, no anything other than perhaps another apology for another delay and a request for patience.

Trailer at the Game Awards in December with title and release date (November 17, 2023) or “Holiday 2023” window. (You don’t release a game like BotW 2 in, like, August, you just don’t.)
