StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (Read the staff posts before commenting!)

Hours before the investor meeting, shareholders start selling stock. Tells me all I need to know about what’s happening tonight lol

laughs maniacally
But is it not that the initial reaction happens based on the headline results (like did they reach the objectives for the quarter)? The positioning ahead of the release can also be wrong, markets get surprised every day (look at the huge movements ahead of the last payroll release). So if there is movement, I d say most likely it is because revenue disapoints.

What do you think how much influence on the battery would it have when the screen is larger? Would this already be balanced out by the slower drainage of the chip or does it have not that much of an influence at all because it being a LCD with a simple backlight and only being marginally bigger?
All things being equal, 8 inch would drain more than 7 inch

But the difference is probably going to be pretty minimal, I cannot see 7” vs 8” power draw driving any decision here. If they went with a bigger screen, I’d bet on it being because they want a bigger display to showcase 1080p on

I'm going purely "on vibes" but I don't believe we'll hear anything official on the Switch 2 before April because of how Nintendo's Fiscal Year runs. Close up FY2024 with Switch, start FY2025 with news about Switch 2.

That said I do think we'll get a Direct in February but concentrating on 3rd party releases for calendar year 2024, and maybe a short direct dedicated to the Peach game.

What many Nintendo Stockholder are doing often seems like illogical given the circumstances though.

I believe it is expected that tomorrow will be quite a mixed reaction because Nintendo having a quite slow holiday season and so far not giving much indication of their future plans. Even if they are saying something about new hardware we all know them that the very most they‘d give out is a project name and that it comes FY 2025, which will be not or just enough for many. It is probably smart to sell it now (or last week really) if you wanted some profit out of it.

Furukawa getting ready to mention “uncharted territory” and say “nothing to talk about at this time” to investors.

I’ve seen good news sold and good news bought up. I’ve seen bad news sold and bad news bought up.

“Markets get surprised everyday”

I’d argue that they ultimately dont and this is based on what I’ve observed in over 15 years trading BUT I fully admit I can’t prove this with data and I understand the idea that moves are predetermined is crossing into conspiracy territory. Let’s call it…static human nature observation aided by millions of algorithms of which got programmed with that same nature based response.

IE: Markets move based on % levels. Not news. The two often coincide often (spooky stuff imo).

“The positioning ahead of the release can also be wrong”

Agreed. They (Investors) get it wrong by giving into fear and greed. Overbuying and overselling. Usually by 161% (wonders of anyone knows why I chose that number)

Hope not, if it’s coming this year just say it. “Like please look forward to it later this year”.

Not even Apple is this secretive at shareholder meetings lol. Nintendo has nasty habit of treating its investors as just peasants.

The entire premise of SNG being bigger because of the SOC is pretty flawed. It essentially means Nintendo was forced to make SNG bigger because of the SOC. This basically assumes that NVIDA and Nintendo wouldn't have known the SOC die size early on when developing T239. Problem is NVIDIA knows exactly how much space Ampere GPU cores on 8nm take up. Nvidia has a complete lineup of RTX30 cards that are on 8nm. So if it is on 8nm, why not spec with less cores that they could clock higher which also makes the SOC smaller? Would Nintendo really allow the SOC dictate the size of the unit? Wouldn't the power draw and die size restrictions for the SOC be designed around the form factor? The argument for SNG using a bigger screen to accommodate an SOC that would obviously be too big and too power hungry for a device like Switch is a poor one. We are talking about problems that make no sense for an SOC that is completely custom designed for this form factor from the very beginning. If Nintendo was using another off the shelf SOC that happened to be a bit too big, then perhaps its would make some sense trying to shoehorn it in there, but we are talking about a completely avoidable problem.

Good, I‘ll try: Because Nintendo has never listened to fans and launched historically underpowered consoles, with the last one, Switch, having 12 GB less than the superior Steam Deck. I said „Nintendo gonna Nintendo“ during the Wii U era but No one believed me until Nintendo launched the Wii U with only 1GB RAM available for games. I‘m sure Nintendo‘ll disappoint all of us and give us Switch 2 with only 8 GB of RAM and 64 GB storage. I know you don’t believe me, but like Sen Ttu said once: „Nintendo fans always set themselves up for disappointment if they speculate on their hardware.“ We‘ll see us in 2025 and I know who‘ll be right. Uh and almost forgot: DOA!

Was that good enough?
...and banned.

Yeah I was being diplomatic with the 'maybe'
I've always been on the train of custom chip custom chip custom chip
It's why I disagree with the takes of 'third party support will be unchanged'. Doubt it will or it'd be a waste of R&D.

LMAO holy shit. I legit never knew the number 161 had such a prominent astrology presence.

I was referring to the Fibonacci sequence and the golden ratio. 1.6180339887 etc. It often just simply gets shorted to "161%" when talked about.

Tinfoil hats everyone.

This number shows up in so much random non-connected shit its scary.

I figured that was it.

Shouldn't it be 162% with standard rounding rules?

Meaning of Seeing Angel Number 161

If you keep seeing Angel Number 161, it is a strong sign that your angels and the Universe are working with you to bring your dreams to reality. Trust in the process and have faith that everything will fall into place. Your angels are urging you to stay positive, optimistic, and keep your thoughts, words, and actions aligned with your higher purpose.

To think that in September of 2022 I was already talking about how I wished Nintendo would go with an 8" screen, way before any rumors about it:

And one last thing: 8" screen. Yeah, I just love tabletop mode. I play a lot of Mario party with my sister and nephew (and other games), and a 8" would be perfect for us. The increase in size and weight wouldn't bother me. And I already said I don't care losing physical compatibility with current joy-cons...

I remember that, at that time, no one here would even consider the possibility of a console that could be even minimally larger than the OLED model xD

But I was never confined to the idea that they needed to do the same thing they were doing with the current models (size, weight, physical joy-con compatibility). But it remains to be seen whether they'll in fact change things, and by how much.

Xbox annoucing next gen at the same time as this would prove they have no strategy at all and are just throwing everything a the wall at this point

I also think Jez is...kinda coping a bit at the moment

It will kind of like the Iwata announcing the NX moment. To convince investors they aren't going full mobile.

I could see them going with a generic statement like "we're already hard at work on the next generation of Xbox consoles", just enough to confirm that they plan to keep making consoles without any actual details.

I think any walled garden that does not innovate or distinguish itself from other related hardware should not exist.

IE: PS5 and XSX

I'm going full scorched earth until Nintendo announces the Switch 2.
These investors have been pushing for MS to sell off their hardware division shortly after the 360 days.
