StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (Read the staff posts before commenting!)

My brain is running full blast.

He is just referring to people bringing the podcast into context of the video Jeong set private. In the sense of "we recorded well on advance before it was set private so it has nothing to do with it".
Don't read more into it.

Still team reveal H1, release H2.

You would be a prime candidate for the Empire

Looks like i missed some stuff over the night again?

Aaaah, i wish these leaks would be more EU friendly. ;D

So I know this is more of a Direct Speculation pattern, but

just so yall know

I have a pretty big day full of doctors appointments tomorrow. 👀

I, as the forums official Ancient One, want to thank you for your sacrifice.

And wish you all well in health and no future need for days full of doc appointments.

It's not.

And we recorded well before the trailer was set to Private.

I gotta ask ... does it makes podcasters feel a bit down if something about the topic happens close after having finished recording an episode? (Assuming the next episode does indeed feature ReDraketed stuff here.)

Like ... "Ah shit ... we've JUST finished and then this happens..."?

Were there different contracts between the music? The OLED trailer got pulled 1 year after it was up and this one 7. How does that work?

120k account tweeted that, no idea about who this is

Necro teasing, heard something at the Brazilian Show ?

Re: license

The thing is if the music license was expired they would have removed the video from their social media too - They didn't.

It's a Youtube SEO related thing.

They plan something on youtube and they don't want the old video to confuse people or mess with the results

Ah yeah, a Hentai account, the true insider
hey now, not all pixiv artists are hentai artists.

but yeah I'm pretty sure that fanartist is just reacting to same stuff everyone is about the video going private.

Where in Necro's tweet does it says he heard something at the Brazilian show. All it says is he thinks the switch video going private is for licensing reasons.

I wonder in the case we get some new info soon if it causes another round of snowballing, like back when the Gamescom stuff was first shared and Eurogamer and VGC jumped on too.

Hotgirlsvideos69.

True leaker right there.

Personally, i'm a fan of Walmart Canada.

I'm asking him if he heard something or not, don't get it twisted

He added "or..." at the end of the tweet, that's called a tease
I was a bit reserved on that whole video taken down thing, but I think this one can be considered real smoke...

Is this it then? The wait is over?

Oh the labo reveal trailer is gone too...and the lite reveal trailer never went back up, so it's clear those two at least had something to do with licensing.

A little bit different, but their E3 2017 video disappeared years ago (at least in America).

it‘s very likely btw that the main reason of the takedown of the trailer is that they stopped to licence the music for another year given how close it is to the date of the reveal trailer.

This might show that Nintendo is very slowly shifting the focus away from the Switch but it dosen‘t say anything when they would reveal the next console.

Licensing is the likeliest option, but as said before that’s because the succ is coming and there’s no point paying for that license any longer. I’m not anticipating anything until January to be honest.

Do you have any explanation for this?

Multiple teams? Marketing/Social Media

That doesn't make sense. Nintendo needs to be licensing the rights to show the trailer. They don't have separate music licenses for YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc., do they?

There is a possibility that it will be removed from social media as well and YouTube was just done first, but I don't see any particular reason to assume that over the SEO explanation. Plus, there's the fact that a Switch 2 reveal would match up with the Amiibo restock thing.

This is probably the strongest point towards it being a hint towards a significant reveal.

However part of me thinks Nintendo just forgot they uploaded it on there 😵‍💫

This would definitely be the funniest option, at least.

Wonder is likely the last BIG Nintendo Switch game in terms of marketing and big sales expectations. This is the last Switch focussed holiday game for Nintendo). Reviews are soon to drop and the buzz for Wonder is building. I think a 1-2 punch of Wonder’s release and the confirmation of a successor coming next year would be a great strategy.

Doing it this way would also potentially reduce the cannibalism people talk about — which I think is minimal at this point. The majority of people adopting the switch at this late in its life are likely purchasing the device for a child. You could hold off buying the console and Mario Wonder until the more expensive new version releases in 2024, but try explaining that to your kids on Christmas Day!

It might just be licensing but it’s been so quiet since the last big report from Gamescom that I’m enjoying new speculation. Also if it ends up being nothing at least Wonder is almost here!

Given Nintendo is (likely) very aware about the talks about their next system being at an all time high right now, them deciding to let a license fade out right now is definitely a curious timing.

As long as they're not literally calling ReDraketed "Switch" again, without any other addition, i don't think SEO/YT search visibility would be an issue, so they could've just let the license go on for half a year or a full year again.
It's not that Nintendo couldn't afford doing this financially.

It's also (to me) curious that they suddenly said to themselves "That's enough now" after 7 years.
Technically, they could've called quits for that video the moment they announced the OLED, again imo.

I say both sides have valid arguments in this case. Good thing is, we don't have to wait long if there's really more behind it and not just license shenanigans.

I think both teams got a date for removal and one was acting quicker.

nate, I have been hearing your podcSt for sometime now and I find it pretty relaxing. I just wish two changes: 1) use some soft music on the background and 2) be more clear about how can I participate and donate some cash. Do you have a site? Can you create a official thread in famibords or installbase about your podcast where I can put some questions?

Thanks! Ow, I love MVG. I always think of him as a character of Metal Gear Solid and I don’t know why.

If the video is literally called First Look At Nintendo Super Switch/Switch 2 (The Sequel!), that would probably cause searching issues IMO. Not for everyone, no, but enough for them to private a trailer that has almost the exact same title.

No, but I don't think it is necessarily a strong hint to the reveal of the next Switch.

Don't know what is going on that they aren't taking it down on twitter, but Music Licensing (or other boring business stuff) is still the likeliest reason to me for the following:
  • Even without the help of SEO (which Nintendo uses heavily), Search Engines would still be smart enough and the relevancy so high, that a confusion would never happen.
  • Regardless of what videos are available, I don't see them naming the reveal video of their next video in a similar way. It's not like a specific naming convention.
  • They mostly take down videos where they either fear licensing issues or have contracts ending them. There are so many old trailers on their YouTube channel that are there for no reason from a Marketing perspective.
  • Nintendo has several products with similar names like for example Super Mario Maker 1 and 2. They never bothered to take down the WiiU Trailers of the first game. Hell, there are literally two Splatoon games on Switch and all Splatoon 2 trailers are still there! There are two videos named "Splatoon 2 Launch Trailer - Nintendo Switch" and "Splatoon 3 Launch Trailer - Nintendo Switch" and no one ever really confused them.
  • It is just too convenient that the take down of the trailer happens to be around the date when it was released 7 years ago.
