StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (Read the staff posts before commenting!)

My main beef with the licensing theory is that if Nintendo decided not to reuse that banger for the NG reveal, they’ve already made a huge mistake and the NG is doomed (TM).

Basically during the Nintendo Switch Presentation in 2017, they opened the reveal trailer for 1-2 Switch with a live action wild west segment, meant to tease the shootout mini-game featured.

However, before the trailer shifted gears to reveal itself as a party game compilation, some believed they were showcasing a trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 on Switch, as the game was supposed to be nearing release at that time.

Why would the creators of the song in the Switch trailer want it taken down? I’m guessing that trailer is easily the most notable piece of content featuring their music. If anything, they’d be happy for it to stay up, not asking for significant licensing fees to keep it up.

That's just how it works mate, especially against big corporations like Nintendo.

It's not like that they would specifically ask Nintendo to take it down. It is more that Nintendo would take it down because they see no reason to pay for the licensing anymore. Also it's not like they'd pay the creators directly or something. Don't know how the trailer was produced but I'd say that Nintendo did it over a external production company which either has their own employees who create music or more likely did it over a music production company who has composers working for them as freelancer or something

Nintendo has a new trailer that’s going to announce the Nintendo Switch 2. They don’t want the reveal trailer for Nintendo Switch 1 on YouTube.

Aren't Mario reviews hitting today? Wouldn't make sense if they'd also announce something else. Maybe after Wonder's release.
i know it wont happen but what if its a "release switch 2 trailer in case mario wonder gets mediocre reviews" scenario. People will be talking about the switch 2 instead of mario reviews. Just a thought

Okay, so this is a bit of a long shot, but one of the dudes in the discord I moderate brought this to my attention. It could be a case of nothing, but it's worth asking just under the slight chance it means something.

50 minutes ago (as of writing), this trailer appeared on Nintendo UK's Youtube account:

This is a trailer for the Deep Cut Amiibo.

There is literally no mention of the Nintendo Switch within the trailer itself, and nearly no mention of it in the comments (outside of referring to the Nintendo Switch Facebook group).

Again, could literally be nothing. I just wanted to check if there's been other Amiibo trailers that don't mention the Switch.

If a reveal was to happen soon, I can only see it happening at least one week after wonder's release. There is no reason for them to reveal it so close to wonder. They can reveal it whenever they want, so why would they cramp up all their events so close together?

Some mention of an investors meeting at the beginning of November? Maybe they want to get it out of the way before then?

There was no mention of Switch in the Off the Hook amiibo trailer from 2018, so yeah, I don't think this means anything.

Okay, thanks.

It just came off as kinda odd when I first heard of it. If there's cases of it in the past, then it doesn't matter.

Right before wonder's release? I don't think so. The week starting on the 30th of October is more likely.

Saw a reddit comment on gamingleaksandrumours about the trailer being taken down. It turns out the band, White Denim, who made the song actually has been having a lot of trouble when it comes to the rights and licensing their own music. Multiple videos of theirs apparently have been removed from YouTube because of this and some albums were pulled from Spotify temporarily. This is all due to the band not actually owning the masters of their own music, and their publisher got bought out a few months back. The law just doesn't know who owns the rights to the music anymore. So, assuming this is true, I think that settles it. It's not that Nintendo wanted to take down the trailer, it's that the rights issue is so messy that Nintendo couldn't navigate it in time to extend the licensing.

Important edit: @Paraspikey did some more digging around and couldn't find anything to back up this claim. For now, don't take this is confirmed, but it doesn't mean it's not a licensing problem, either. Licensing is weird, this comment from Reddit just seems to be speculation as well. I'll come back and update this if I can find anymore information.

team next 48 hours gaining a lot of traction lol
Just looked back at the news on 19-20 october 2016.

A French website (sorry), but
In short, Nintendo just announced that they would skip the annual meeting and simply publish results (was supposed to occur on Oct 26 that year).
Seems like that day they reiterated the presentation of the console would occur "before the end of the year".

The next day overnight (the news was published at 3AM something French time) they announced they would present the console later that day.
Either way, do what you want with it (personally I would not say this is all meaningful), just to get an idea of some things that could give an early warning that a presentation is coming.

An interesting thing is that the days ahead of the presentation were crippled with Pokemon S/M trailers and info.

But question, the trailer is available on other portions of youtube. If that was a legal argument, would all the other videos not have been taken down too?

Because Nintendo privatised the video, not White Demin. Nintendo are the ones taking precautions.

These re-uploaders probably do not know what's going on.

There's been cases in the past where the original poster had to take down something due to legal issues but other people who reposted it were (and still are) allowed to post it online with no issue. Would not shock me in the slightest if that was the case here, but we'll see.

Do we have any actual evidence for this? It is strange how apparently no one knows who owns the song, yet the music video is still up on youtube.

I have been searching, but I can't find no mention from the band or anyone else regarding legal issues with the album or the album being removed off spotify for a while.

It rules out the rights issue since the video is still available on Nintendo channels that do not belong to YouTube.

So they only removed it on Youtube basically...? Why do that and not remove it from everything else? Only Engine Optimizing makes sense to me, personally.

I committed myself to not look at Famiboards for 12 hours. I have been rewarded with potential excellent news that could basically turn in to nothing at all. This is the life of a hardware speculator.

It could just be Nintendo taking temporary precautions, not necessarily their hand being forced. Would also explain why the timeline is close but doesn't line up exactly.

You can private a video on YouTube without taking it down, but that's not the case for other social media sites

I have like, super bad fear of heights, but if it would motivate outlets for new ReDraketed leaks, i would happily attend a rooftop party.

I asked the guys on Reddit who were talking about it. I found some stuff about the band having various issues bc members left, but I can't find anything specifically about legal stuff. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
