StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (Read the staff posts before commenting!)

Just to sum up Nate's video
  • BotW demo apart from being 4k/60 due to dlss it showcased instant loading times
  • Matrix demo in terms of ray tracing performance was on par or even better than that of PS5/Xbox series
  • March 2024 was a point of conversation at gamescom. It could be release window or even the reveal of the new hardware
  • No news on bc

I'm sorry but that last line makes no sense. That's not how this industry works, you don't reveal a product without knowing when you plan to launch it.

I don't care personally when it launches, and like I just said above I think May or June is pretty likely too. I'm saying that there is little logic behind the idea that Nintendo is telling developers when they plan to do a first reveal of the console.

I'd prefer it if you try not to ascribe personal expectations or desires to any of my arguments, I've made it abundantly clear in the past that I do my speculation based on data and evidence and not anything I personally want.

Things change and evolve all the time especially for products that haven't been revealed.

You also have no data or evidence that March 2024 refers to a release and not a reveal.

Like I said, someone at the meetings might have asked Nintendo when they plan to reveal and got a simple 'around March next year'. I don't know and can't be sure because I wasn't there.

the only thing I wonder is if it's going to be a full re-releas or an upgrade?
What is? BOTW?

I don't expect BOTW to be either rereleased or upgraded, they specifically mentioned that there was nothing at the presentation suggesting this tech demo will be a game sold.

Just listened to Nate's podcast. WE ARE SO FUCKING BACK. MVG wasn't even skeptical either. Whew. So we're left with: SSD speed load times, ray tracing might even be better than the PS5 and SeX, Matrix demo was at least DLSS 3.0, and mysteries about March 2024. I think it'll be a reveal in March and then a late May or early June release. Can't believe it was so over last night. I just gotta believe.

that's because it's 500 dollars
I still expect 399

All the "impressive" stuff is thanks to the SOC and RAM. Some calculations have been run in this very thread, and 4N fabbed T239 would be... very, very affordable. It's impressive, but it's not a lot of silicon in the grand scheme of things. Meanwhile RAM prices are in the toilet.

Let's be realistic. The beating heart of this device? It's cutting edge- not bleed you dry. As I would expect from Nintendo.

Using development kits they might have not yet received on hardware they've only just heard about and never once used or coded for?

It would be a tough ask.
Who the hell is saying devs weren't aware of the console before? Everyone has said devkits have been out before this. Being invited to a tech demo presentation doesn't mean this is the first you've heard of a console.

What does it mean???????

March-2024-Calendar.jpg

We need the answers lol

Your heads gone.

I'm out, buddy.

It's as cutting edge as a gaming device needs to be, so it's bound to outperform every other device not meant for games. It can totally be called as such.

March is way too late for a reveal if it made an appearance at GamesCom. That's just leaving the door wide open for leaks. Why not reveal it earlier and control the narrative? For that reason I think March is release.

Team 2023 might get their dream after all... only. It might be this fiscal year, rather than this calendar year.

I'll meet you both in the middle!

4K60 and instant loading for a relatively high end Switch game bodes really well for next-gen patches

There are certain Switch games which would be given a new lease of life with these patches.

Bayonetta 3
Xenoblade 1-3
Yoshi's Crafted World

I've also thought Link's Awakening would look amazing at higher res and with the stutters completely eliminated.

So they could really repeat the Switch timeline.

Which would mean a "dry PR announcement" (To whom it may concern...) within the next 2 months.
Nah, they're not dropping a PR announcement smack dab in the middle of Q3, weeks before Black Friday (keep in mind these dry PR announcements always coincide with their shareholders briefing as they're aimed at investors).

That announcement will made with their Q3 briefing in early February. That use to be their preferred time to make their first announcement back when they still publicly unveiled new gen hardware at E3 in May/June. Admittedly this will give them a much shorter announcement to unveiling window then ever before but ultimately I don't think that matters in the current social media age. Even ignoring the timing of their shareholders breifings, February is the only time that makes sense if they A) don't want to hurt holiday sales, B) give enough of a buffer after the holidays not to piss off new adopters and C) still make an announcement before the March unveiling.

Monolith Soft, Next Level, and EPD Tokyo's games are gonna be lit (with ray tracing)!
Personally I'm most excited for the next Luigi's Mansion and Mario Kart. Mario Kart 8 had incredibly beautiful lighting on the damn Wii U. Mario Kart X is gonna look like a CG movie.

In my mind, Andy Robinson is hastly DM'ing and mailing all his sources to ask about March 2024 reveal or launch.

Super hyped after listening to the podcast, my previous cynicism is thankfully unfounded.
All I need is the patch confirmation for certain titles and I'm in Nintendo heaven.

Only team 2020/21/22/23 could celebrate being right in 2024!

Hope you're right though :)

Forget about the old games. I'm imagining Astrial Chain 2 on new hardware and it is glorious!

A couple of thoughts:
the fact that nintendo's behind the curtains showcase was focused on loading times, ray-tracing and dlss kind of confirms that the main focus of the next switch won't be some strange new hardware innovations or new way of play, otherwise they would have probably highlighted something like that. It could still have some weird hardware quirks but I don't expect them to be the main focus or selling point just like the joycons were not the main selling point of the switch.

For the march 2024 reveal/release I'm wondering, would they announce the new console out of the blue like that? I mean technically according to Nintendo there's no next gen switch console since they're avoiding the topic with shareholders, so would they give an heads up to shareholders during one of the financial meetings before the public announcements no? Especially if one of the shareholders asks questions about the next switch or the prototype shown at this events.
