Slash is PERFECTLY SFW! 🤘

Probably better name than the Nintendo Snatch followed by the next iteration called the Nintendo Power Snatch.

(Ok, me will sit down…)

Nintendo Fish

Next time you watch The Dark Knight Rises, and “Deshi Basara” is playing, remember that they’re chanting:

“Fish Fish Pasta Pasta! Fish Fish Pasta Pasta! Fish Fish Pasta Pasta!”

You’re welcome, Fami. 😃

I leave a tab of this thread open when I'm working.

today a guy who works with me asked what in the world I keep reading so much here.

I didn't know what to answer.

Just tell him: "Because someone is wrong on the internet!"

About the name, we had:
  • Nintendo 64
  • Nintendo 65 (Gamecube)
  • Nintendo 66 (Wii)
  • Nintendo 67 (WiiU)
  • Nintendo 68 (Switch)
The next step is:

Everybody will love to play with their 69!

The Nintendo Karma?

Since the current rumour is that it will have a camera, I could see the name playing around it.

Nintendo Beholder - We would like to keep watching you.

Switch 2 is as descriptive as calling the Lite and OLED as Switch 1.1 and Switch 1.2.

It just tells there's something new, not why anyone should care.

"New gen" means a lot for gaming enthusiasts, but for the general public the point of reference is phones, tablets, TVs, cars, etc. They wouldn't bat an eye if console revisions were called new generations (e.g. DS 2nd gen and DS 3rd gen instead of DS Lite and DSi).

And if Nintendo can't even convey it's a new generation without putting that in the name, they failed really hard on their marketing already.
Points at PlayStation numbering consoles and all major phones from Apple, Samsung, and Google.. or OS systems like Windows

We have 5 PlayStation consoles with a numbering system. Sure it's boring, but everyone gets the point it's a successor with each number succeeding.
simple, it won't get madden like the switch doesn't now. problem solved!
Madden not coming is more of a storage thing, right? Sports games do not have complex CPUs.. So I imagine GPU is the biggest bottleneck usually.

Seems like the majority of Madden HD games are close to 50GB 🤔.
We could even get less with compression.

Then again EA hates Nintendo, ammiright cause they didn't buy into Origin.
Yes. I expect the new model of any electronic to be better. But the "how" is completely absent.
I know the new iPhone is better than last year's, but if I'm not planing on buying a new phone or if I'm an Android user, why should I care?
With smart phones, there's been Iike a 2x increase in performance every 3 years, and after 4-5 years it's gonna be like a console leap. Most people know this subconsciously.

Now it could all slow down moving forward in terms of effect from nodes (cause Miires Law is slowing), and they would have to rely on architecture.

But anyhow, just looking at PlayStation alone, gamers will get the point that after 6 years of switch, "switch 2" is the successor, if Nintendo goes through with it. Honestly it's the safest option, with Super Switch being the second I think.

What are ya'lls hopes for the switch successor UI? I'd honestly love to see a total creative make-over, with creative icons, popping colors, and flashy easter eggs. But at the absolute bare minimum, I really want cool themes. Themes alone would give the new ui immeasurable amounts of more life than the current switch.

I think I'm the only one who want a neomorphismic design

Even if it is tongue in cheek, it is the first tangible and well-documented effort at naming the next console in this thread. Well done, Sir.

We are back to the names again? Dang.

In regards to the VR feature, I wonder if they could make Mario Kart Live into a VR remote game (like how some high end drones operate). Nintendo also has those AR games in Super Nintendo World. Additionally there's also the Labo VR experiment. I wonder if all of these are a preparation for the next generation.

The naming discussion… again.
PS4/X1 have hung around longer than expected, but now that the current gen consoles have built up a respectable userbase it only makes sense that more and more third parties will leave those old consoles in the past going forward. Maybe the idea of ten year generations isn't so unrealistic after all. PS4 and X1 still sell a lot of software and the Switch is still going strong in its seventh year on the market. With that said, at some point PS4/X1 will be left behind, and it seems to me this will be the last year they see a lot of support.
The question isn't that PS4 won't get left behind, it's what it will be left behind for. You're assuming it's for PS5/XBS-only titles, when another possibility is about to enter the field and has been written off as not in consideration. I would hesitate to make that claim. Like I look at Dragon's Dogma 2 and Kunitsu-Gami, beautiful games to be sure, but nothing I'm seeing strikes me as being totally out of reach for PS4... but they're the first titles they've released that aren't cross-gen in the past 3 years and it happens that they're releasing in 2024. Isn't that the same year a new Nintendo hardware release is being pegged for? HUH, curious, what could that possibly mean?

Looks like it's not much new, besides them showing a tech demo that consisted of a souped up BOTW.

Also they're seemingly leaving the door open for an earlier 2024 release now too.

Man I want more descriptions of what “souped-up” BOTW means. What did they improve and show off? DLSS? Higher flamerates? Improved draw-distance? As they said it’s only a tech demo. But maybe it will be a patch. Give me more details 🤩

I would say Eurogamer stating that Nintendo tries to release it sooner than H2 2024 is also of interest.
(If i missed this being old news, i'm not sorry. I'm never sorry.)

I mean..it’s confirmation that Switch 2 was there coming from an actual reputable source for one.

Also always love the “nothing new except for that one part that’s new” line lol.

Gates opened? Show me them leakz!

While sources might already be talking to reporters like Tom Warren and so on, i doubt the latter will do any reporting soon about details.
It's still too close to Gamescom, and easy enough for Nintendo to figure out which dev the leak is.

Though maybe after TGS, they feel more confident since there would be two sources of those infos then.

I really, really hope that souped-up demo of BOTW makes it out to the public at some point in some form or capacity. The snippet on timing is also very interesting, I would always welcome an earlier release as long as the stock situation is somewhat manageable. Very exciting times!

There have been a ton of rumors about it at gamescom from plenty of good sources. I figure most people following this thread would have kept up with it so not much else is all that new in the article.

I'm still surprised they actually did this at Gamescom and didn't just invite devs to their HQ in Frankfurt or London or visit devs at their HQs.

I’ve been following this thread. No one has come out and said it was actually there and shown to developers. We just got told it wasn’t shown to press.

Also no one has said Nintendo is keen to release it earlier rather than later in the year so that’s also a new tidbit.

Just a strange downplay overall of an article that could really open the floodgates for leaks (Andy Robinson just hinted on Twitter that it could indeed lead to more articles).

I mean the suggestion that they're looking to release it earlier is new, and is an oddly interesting tidbit to add as a throw away sentence. Also hearing about the BOTW on juice is a tantalizing mental image.

@NateDrake a little while ago you told us that developers weren’t shown new hardware at Gamescom. Since Eurogamer is reporting on it now, was it something you didn’t know about or prefered not to disclouse?

I believe he clairified that it hasn't been shown to journalists, like Jez Corden's tweet implied.

E:

There's now a second report (see the Direct thread) that states the system would be capable of using DLSS 3.5

another report from VGC
Sources: Nintendo showed Switch 2 demos at Gamescom | VGC (videogameschronicle.com)

One ‘Switch 2’ demo is understood to have been an improved version of the Switch launch title Zelda: Breath of the Wild, running at a higher framerate and resolution than the original game did, on hardware targeting the new console’s specs (but there was no suggestion the game will actually be re-released.)

Another VGC source claimed that Nintendo showcased Epic’s impressive The Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 tech demo – originally released to showcase the power of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2021 – running on target specs for its next console.

The demo is said to have been running using Nvidia’s DLSS 3.5 upscaling technology, with advanced ray tracing enabled and visuals comparable to Sony and Microsoft’s current-gen consoles.

A lot of cross-gen games have visuals comparable between Pro versions and next gen, wouldn’t put a lot of weight on that part of the article. Comparable is a wide spectrum

So, a 4k/60 fps BotW ? Dunno, doesn't feel very delightful or impressive to me, does it ?

Edit : Ho, more impressive tech demo too ? Nice !

So that part about DLSS 3.5 gave me the biggest "Hol' up for one second" of this entire year. Holy shit that caught me off guard.

If this is true, then this device is going to be genuinely insane imo.

He never said developers weren't shown hardware. He said press wasn't shown hardware.
