There are no agreements, only war it seems can be made in these here badlands.

Mad Fami II: The Board Warrior.

A lot of notable first-party Nintendo games hitting their lowest price ever across multiple retailers. Not sure if it means anything but interesting nonetheless.
more like late life sales than any hint at new hardware. people who are just jumping in now are people who only buy when things are cheaper, and since the hardware isn't cheaper, Nintendo has to make that up with software sales

Welp, they got me to finally buy NSMBU

FINALLY! someone who isn't a coward! why is it so hard for people to test ray tracing anything? "muh low performance!" "muh amd isn't good at rt!"

720p, medium settings, normal (half-res, or 509p) ray tracing

gets about 40fps in the 25W mode. ME:EE is a game I can see showing up day one for Drake, and would make for a good technical demonstration. Nvidia would probably push for it too. Xbox Series S plays the game at dynamic 540p and 60fps, medium settings equivalent

Cyberpunk 2077 with 720p upscaling and ray tracing on runs like a potato but it's 30fps passable if you customise it to only having one ray traced option (shadows is the easiest, reflections and then lighting. I chose lighting only as that to me is the most beneficial in a game like Cyberpunk.) Though, in my case, I had the settings on Ultra before applying. If I tone down settings I could get it running better and maybe switch one or two more ray traced options.

Control applies as well. Try ray tracing with high settings, not a chance even with upscaling. But tone down the settings and upscale and you'll have results.

Surprisingly I played Layers of Fears on the Ally and had settings maxed out with ray tracing and 1080p and it ran at 45fps consistently. It did surprise me that it ran so well.

Pinball FX is another one that can run ray tracing with max settings if you turn down the resolution. Can't seem to do 1080p despite how...limited...it is on that game. I don't really see it as entirely worth it for the resolution and performance loss but it's doable.

they should do a "Nintendo Selects Seasonal Sale" with select games getting a bigger discount than usual. more hardcore games, specifically, like Astral Chain, Fire Emblem, etc

We are at the end of the line, it is time Nintendo finally does a discount greater than 20% for once. Sometimes it's 30%, rare, but they do need to tone down the pricing on some of the older titles already. They have milked them quite thoroughly.

In a desperate attempt to discuss anything other than BC 😅 what multiplats do people expect might release in 2024 for Switch NG (assuming the hardware itself releases in 2024).

(Apologies if this isn't valid discussion for this thread, I know this is supposed to be focused on hardware and technology, but we have no new info and are going around in circles on that front, so hopefully it's OK to discuss this briefly until we get any new hardware/technology rumours/info?
Plus, this discussion will probably invite technology discussion with regard to the feesibility and ease of developing certain ports, especially compared to Switch 1, but also compared to PS4 and Xbone, so i actually think it counts. Let me know if not!)

I think the dream is Star Wars Outlaws. It would set a great precedent moving forward and is such a big IP I'm sure it would sell very well.
I could imagine a late AC mirage port if the console releases in H1. We've had many AC games on Switch.

Hogwarts legacy could get an enhanced port too since it sold so well on existing platforms.

No doubt fortnite will be there day 1 at 60fps this time.

I think the new Atlus game might make it, Metaphor something I can't remember exactly. Although their decision to ignore Switch 1 with persona 3 is truly baffling.

I bet Cyberpunk would be possible but given how badly it ran on PS4 and Xbone they might not think its worth the struggle? Do we know where the bottlenecks were for Cyberpunk on last gen? And if so, do we know if Drake will likely address them?
I've said this before to a different question, but Re Fantazio, please. Though, that's assuming we're talking about day and date releases and that Redrakted NG releases in the fall.

But, if we're talking multiplats in general......

a5eh0.jpg

Final Fantasy VII Remake/Rebirth
All of Kingdom Hearts
Tales of Berseria/Arise
Street Fighter 6
All of Yakuza
Soul Calibur 6
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 4
All of the modern Resident Evils
Monster Hunter World
Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor
Eldin Ring
Soul Hackers 2
Cyberpunk 2077
Devil May Cry 5
Etc,etc.

They probably should just extend their sales offerings in general to include most 1st party games. But this isn’t a bad idea.

Since Furukawa is a businessman they would be foolish to lower prices permanently on multiple fronts.

Only question is, how is the battery?

Before you're getting all flustered up by the discounts, you know it's Prime Day(s)?

This might just be a case of "Well shit, if Amazon has discounts, we gotta have them too" situation.

But then they will dive into the red ocean. If they compete directly against Apple they'll be crush.

I'd really prefer them to stick to what they are doing extremely well, gaming. They're not big enough to spread too thin.

I wouldn't mind some web browsing tho.
It's a gaming device, first and foremost, so I don't see them competing with Apple.

Not only did these start before Prime Day (and July Sales were a thing LONG before Amazon was.), but they're bigger discounts than ever and present even in regions without Amazon (Like Ireland, there is no Amazon.ie).

The capabilities of a console with the mass appeal of an Apple Device is something Nintendo has been doing for decades. Wii, DSi, New Nintendo 3DS, Switch.

Wii U basically strayed too far from the safe formula of "modern looking device with good games", and the OLED Model epitomises the concept.

Don't worry, they emulate the PS3 and call that console "retro" these days. Makes me feel old that's considered "retro."

Retro would be the SNES and that little machine that could has games that put some present day AAA titles to shame.
This is how I feel after you said that.

I think you're crossing some wires.

-The backwards compatibility discourse is basically because MVG sees a hurdle that could hinder backwards compatibility and discussion spiraled on whether backwards compatibility can still happen on the next system resolving problems in time for launch.

As for Wii U, there were incidents of consumers buying Wii U games for the Wii not knowing they had to buy a new console to play said version of the games, which served as a cautionary tale about how to name a console successor. I'm not saying they shouldn't re-use the Switch name, I'm just saying it might not work so great for them.

Historically, Nintendo has avoided the use of numbers to distinguish their next-gen of platforms, possibly in an effort to stay fresh, and new rather than making a sequel of the same old thing. That said, you could argue the SNES was really just the NES2, but relabeled to have Super in its title. Same with Game Boy Color, though that is more a mid-gen refresh (and a late one at that), and of course Game Boy Advance. They could've used the name Game Boy 1.5 for GBC, and Game Boy 2 for GBA, but instead opted against that.

Wii U was just the mistake on all fronts in terms of naming, and marketing, or lack thereof. Should've been named Wii 2, or hell, a completely different name since the concept itself was different, though considering it was fully BC with Wii titles, that would've been difficult. But again, Wii 2, or perhaps Super Wii, or even Wii Advance. Personally, I think Nintendo has missed the mark over the years by not using the "Super" moniker in more of their consoles that are clearly continuations of the previous system.

Most Nintendo devs can do this. Most will. Hell, Camelot made a huge-ass leap from gcn to wii u despite their tiny size

Speaking of which, where in the hell is Golden Sun?!

All I want from Nintendo/Camelot is really just a remaster/remake ala 2D-HD of the first two games, and turn it into one game like the developers originally intended. Lost Age was only its own game last I recall because the GBA carts were not large enough to contain everything. That, and wouldn't be surprised if it gave them a reason to expand the story, and gameplay elements a bit more.

Dark Dawn I have never played, though I do own it, and many have said it ends on a cliffhanger, so we should eventually get a new title.

Regarding BC I’ve got no idea on the technical side of things, but looking at how Nintendo has operated in the last few years it feels like they’re planting a flag in the ground and there won’t be another “reset” like there was when moving on from Virtual Console.
  • NES -> N64 library lives on Nintendo Online
  • Gameboy lives on Nintendo Online
  • GameCube / Wii / Wii U ports will be purchasable through eShop and physical copies.
  • Remakes and Deluxe editions of any generation will be purchasable through eShop and physical copies.
We’ve went from one Pikmin game on Switch to the entire mainline series being available. Metroid Prime could be similar after another direct or two. It really feels like they’re building up a library rather than solely cashing in on ports.

The only missing systems are DS and 3DS, which are difficult for obvious reasons. Maybe there’d be a way to attach the joycons to the top and bottom of the switch 2 screen through an attachment? Seems like a lot of work and hassle when they could just decide to work on Switch 2 specific versions of these games though.

For DS/3DS games, I think one clever way of doing it is similar to what I've seen for certain retro-style Shmups that have a vertical orientation. There are companies that make joy-con holders where the Switch itself is mounted vertically, and the joy-cons attach like they would normally on each side. Because of the vertical nature of the screen, it would make it easier to display the two screens. Nintendo could even sell a vertical mount for the use of playing DS/3DS like they already do for making console specific controllers for retro games. Yes, this pertains only to handheld mode, but in another clever twist, Nintendo could program the option for your TV/Monitor to orient vertically in order to play those games docked. And best of all, Switch already has a touch screen, so no porting should in theory be more straight forward.

I thought about this for a while a few months ago and the issues are

1. Not sure how expensive these chips are but they might be fairly expensive
2. 5G usage seems to burn through the battery pretty quickly

And the most important one by far

3. If people don't have access to WiFi while gaming on their Switch... They probably have their phone with them and their phone should have 5G

I'm just not sure how beneficial the Switch 2 having built in 5G would be relative to people just using their 5G phone as a WiFi hotspot from the Switch 2.

I was similar as you. Thought the big "gimmick" would be Gaming-Online-On-The-Go, but you're correct that those chips would use it precious battery life, plus most Switch owners already own Smartphones with Hotspot tethering, so it feels rather moot. And it would be a very Nintendo answer. "Most of our customers have Smartphones already, so why would we get into that?"

Assuming that Microsoft and Activision plan to make Call of Duty a cross-gen game for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo's new hardware, I do wonder if Microsoft and Activision plan to develop a Nintendo Switch specific Call of Duty.

Jeff Grubb now expects a holiday 2024 release. Doesn't give any hint that his speculation is informed by any sources, so I'm assuming it's his own speculation.

I'm just waiting right now for Super Call of Duty Bros.

There's great discussion around possible gimmicks ... or the lack thereof.
Finally a podcast with new valuable discussion!

This is where the switch really shines.. I get so excited at the prospect of having "insert random amazing game" with me when I am traveling. I travel quiet a bit for work and in the evenings I eventually get time to kick back and just play, with no one around to disrbut me. It's a little bit of heaven.

Of the top of my head I would love to see:
  • Read Dead Redeption 2
  • Resident Evil 4 (Remake)
  • Mass Effect Triology
  • Assuming it will be multiplat and the Switch NG has the grunt - GTA 6

Can you actually do that?

I can't see a reason why you technically couldn't. Not like you need Gigabit internet speeds to game online for Switch, especially since its Wifi chip is about as fast as melting a grilled cheese sandwich on a skillet.

according to Emily, Nintendo wants to continue Golden Sun, but Camelot is small and has more lucrative projects on their table. they'll probably outsource it to an external studio with Camelot oversight for 1+2 remake. maybe add a Dark Dawn epilogue so they can go straight into GS4

either a port of older CoD or a port of CoD Warzone mobile

Can you actually do that?
yes. all you're doing is connecting to a hotspot

A golden sun 4 is more likely to happen than a 1+2 remake.
Golden Sun 1 and 2 are coming to GBA NSO.
Camelot had updated their site in last year with a lot of golden sun artwork and they have jobs open for designers and planners.
Camelot had worked with external studios in Tennis Aces and Golf Super Rush.

I mean you can’t convince me that Kirby Star Allies is selling enough at full price to justify it being full price

Same with Yoshi

I’m sure there’s plenty of people who would never bite at full price … but would at $29 or $19

There’s more than a few titles I held off on for sure

if GS 1+2 doesn't happen, I think we're more likely to see a reboot of Golden Sun rather than a straight up sequel. two retro games and an unavailable third game would put people off from a story-based series

Whats your deadline for abandoning team 2023?

I'm down to single digit percentages on the likelihood of a 2023 release, but I wont completely write it off until August 1st. After that I move to a 50/50 split between a March 2024 release or a holiday 2024 release.

either a port of older CoD or a port of CoD Warzone mobile

I think these will be the immediate releases onto Switch. They could get these onto Switch immediately following their acquisition of Activison.

Irish retailers have begun to join the Switch games sale/stock clearing, with discounts of up to 40% on Nintendo published titles.
Which retailers are doing the discounts? I'm in Ireland, but I usually pick up most games digitally. The only two places I ever really bought from before wee GameStop (which is now gone) and Smyths. I might have a look and see if anything catches my eye.

First thing that caught my eye was Bayonetta 3 at Smyths down to 35€.

Oh for sure, there's a couple titles I cannot justify ever paying full price for simply because the price is just too high for what they actually are. Not every Nintendo game is some polished, holy grail of being extremely fun, worth the price of admission and seriously good.

You will never catch me paying full price for any Mario sports title, they just lack content and value for the price they command. The GameCube days were better on that front.

That being said, I'm first in line to buy full price any remaster of a Metroid title (excluding Federation Force) because I'm a Metroid simp. You could've priced Remastered at $100 and I still would've salivated. You could even remaster Other M and I will still be there Day 1 to love the gameplay and hate the story again and again because the cold, dark realisation that Nintendo has me completely and utterly in the grasp of their Metroid abuse cycle is just too much for my fickle mind to handle and I need to get adjusted by having Other M in the palms of my hands, feeding me the robotic, dead line delivery of Samus into my eardrums. Those dead pan eyes of Samus gazing intensely into yours, wondering when the cycle will be unbroken.

....Help.

Me and my homies don't use "Yeahs", just "Yahahas".

I banned those Koroks from my life after they made me hunt for them to the point of throwing Link off the edge of cliffs again and again in fits of madness trying to 100% it.

YAHAHA-NO. No. Tears of the Koroks more like. Give me my damn inventory space upgrade and take your seeds.

Out of curiosity - where has this theory about this week emerged from? Or is it just a threshold for some of the 2023 believers?
Sorry, I may have stoked some expectations with this post last week.
Within-24-hours-of-the-First-Tuesday-in-July-Following-Independence-Day-in-the-US-#Team23 theory:
Wednesday, July 10th, 2019: Switch Lite Announced
Tuesday, July 6th, 2021: Switch OLED Model Announced
Tuesday or Wednesday, July 11th or 12th, 2023: ???
