StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (Read the staff posts before commenting!)

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't someone say a while back that Nintendo was planning to have a short announcement to release window.

September (A) to November (R) I could see as the earliest possibility. Personally I'm more of a Feb-Apr, or May-July guy as the earliest though.
I don't remember reading anything like that, but I do agree.

Metroid Prime Remastered was announced 2 mere weeks before its physical release and had no retail leaks.
(OK, It kinda leaked from a dev and some guy lost his hair over it for being just slightly wrong, but still).

If Nintendo announces NG today, a single tweet would melt servers.
Enthusiasts would trend it for weeks.
Casuals even remotely connected to gaming would see ads for a month and take notice.
Bowser would appear on Conan playing Horace and saying "pre-order now"!

I don't believe there will be less than 6 months between announcement and release, but I think 3 months would be more than enough and still sell anything they can produce.

I'd say so ;).

Not even a black hole could consume that amount of crow.

I have to say, the moment I saw the Switch, I knew it would be a hit. So even with the Wii U's failures I was surprised to see those takes.

As soon as i saw the dude on the couch riding Link on the horse, i knew, this was gonna be a long fun nintendo era!

Btw, how is it possible that discussions from this forum end up on reddit??
There are over 4k members of this forum, and only a couple dozen regular posters here. That's plenty of room for lurkers to hide. The two most famous examples:

@Cybergatuno first post:
Hi guys,

First post here

It seems NVidia is adding support for Tegra239 into the Linux Kernel.
Still an incredible find. It took about 90 minutes for it to hit reddit, and then the reddit source was what got reported in the news. And then, most excellently, we had people come and post the reddit link in the thread all day. "Has anyone posted this yet???"

Or less fun, this one:

This is me. I am the source. I am not joking.

I followed the links in the screenshots, ran some google translation, and found a table of leaked "Drake" specs, which matches my speculated table of specs from last week. It adds a few little bits of data (a row saying "ray tracing" with "High" as the value), but the other values are identical. It includes my random assumptions (that handheld Drake clocks would match TX1 docked clocks) but also my dumb mistakes, like where I scaled CPU clocks instead of leaving them stable across modes (necessary if you want your game logic to run the same in both modes).

This is a mashup of stuff we've either discovered on this thread or our random speculation to make things look "technical". This is the snake eating it's own tail till it reaches its eyeballs
...where someone took a table I wrote predicting some Drake performance numbers (including one very large mistake) and then turned it into a fake leak that was all over the f'ing place. They changed some stuff, but they retained my dumb mistake and so it was very easy to identify. And yes, there was so much chatter about those leaks, with folks yelling at me about not knowing it was fake when I was the damn (accidental) author.

If the NX2 thing were real, it wouldn't really change much other than hinting perhaps that Dev Kit support and access is in the process of widening from Nintendo most trusted partners to a wider audience of trusted developers.

No real indication of timeline or anything. Nintendo most trusted partners would have access long before this stage

I understand some posters' annoyance with some of the speculation in the thread, but I enjoy it - until the system is revealed our imaginations get to run wild and the sky is the limit! It's fun to dream, you know? Interspersed throughout these threads are the nuggets of technical insight by posters like Dakhil, Z0m3le and others that I really enjoy as again I get to dream about what a machine with such specs would be capable of.

I really enjoy the speculation and thank everyone in here who has contributed to the discussion!

I personally think the most likely release scenario is a February announcement with a May release, launching with Zelda: TOTK+ DLC, a new Mario Kart (maybe Nintendo Kart? šŸ˜®), a new 3D Mario and Monolith's new RPG series. Total guess on my part.

I've been enjoying this thread a lot as well and learned a lot from prominent members.
Thank you all!

But wait until you learn that #Team23 and #Team24 are actually one single person replying to him/her-self aggressively over trivial matters to maximize user engagement and detract people from what actually matters.

I've gotta say no, Switch reveal was one of my favorites reveals ever.

The entire industry was doubting Nintendo coming off of Wii U, and I remember being on NeoGAF where people where some people were lol'ing proclaiming it dead on arrival. This is after reading, "Nintendo should go 3rd party every other month when Wii U numbers dropped. Hell, the Pokemon devs didn't even make an engine for their games on the Switch initially because they had no faith in it.

The moment we heard those hybrid leaks and codename NX the hype cycle was in full gear and it felt like they revealed it at the perfect time.

Did those posters end up eating crow?
I was on there. I was high on Wii U and still am. Still play it to this day. Literally played it yesterday to 100% 3D World. But back then I always looked at the Wii U and the pad and said "Nintendo should do the system the other way around. The pad is the system so we can take it everywhere and the stationary part is the dummy".

Then it happened. And I was angry and disappointed. Not because I hated it, but because I'm really clung onto stationary home consoles, especially Nintendo's. It's their home system that got me hooked on games. The Famicom in my avatar is the one and it holds a special place in my heart (for a couple reasons, one to do with my dad). So I was very sad to see that memory fade when they announced what basically is a portable and a departure from the home consoles I loved.

So I think at the time I predicted 60-70k lifetime sales. Of course my prediction was muddied by my emotional disappointment. I knew they had a winner because that's what I literally expected them to do like I mentioned earlier while playing Wii U.

At the end of the day it's business. And they know their money maker is their portables. So it made business sense to make this move. So I moved on and enjoyed the system for what it is.

I still yearn for a stationary console though! Even when I know the chance is close to 0.

Shuntaro Furukawa mentioned during the financial earning for Nintendo for the forth fiscal quarter, the anouncement and launch of Nintendo Switch was a very different ocasion, and for the it sucessor launch, they will opt for a different strategy(maybe for the Switch sucessor launch, Nintendo will do a special presentation to reveal the console and 3/4 months later, everyone here will be playing the Switch sucessor)

oh snap yall

The Wii U is a fantastic console, mine still works and is still going strong.

While I did say that, it wasnā€™t insider-y at all. At the time, I was just pointing out that, matter what Nintendo ultimately did, they were changing at least some part of ā€œnormalā€ - a long console cycle, a short marketing cycle or both

I get home from a fireworks viewing to see that this thread was dealt some fireworks of its own.

For the record, I'm going with "they used inspect tool"

Exactly it's just a speculation thread, we are not a media claiming news, we are just discussing rumors and seeing what's real or not, but recently everything being shut down without real arguments it's becoming boring

Any new rumor is deemed fake by a little group of people (hello TEAM2024), and the authors are being thrown under a truck for posting about it

It's not fair, it's a speculation thread but they don't want to speculate lol
Speculation is fine, but it would be better if you could:
  1. Say upfront where you found stuff, rather than posting a picture with absolutely no context; and
  2. Be accurate in identifying the source as where you found the thing, rather than claiming it's from the Nintendo developer portal when actually you got it from Twitter.
Like, I get that this isn't a courtroom, and we donā€™t need to hold to strict standards of evidence or whatever, but we can at least give the info we have upfront (subject to confidentiality etc), so that people can properly assess stuff.

Otherwise, it's borderline misinformation. The speculation is more fun when we have the info we need to speculate.

(Edited for typos argh)

Apologies, I misunderstood. Edited my post

We're not under oath but expect to be cross-examined.

team 2023 is getting desperate. soon, we ALL move to team 2024 though they'll be dragged kicking & screaming with false hopes of Q1 2024.

Dev Kits getting out there isn't indicative of something coming in the next few months but it is encouraging for 2024.

This thread has given enough content for clickbait coverage for the remainder of the week. I give it less than a day before the NX2 brand makes the rounds despite being hidden.
Nintendo YouTubers already filming the videos for tomorrow morning

We're not under oath but expect to be cross-examined.
It's been said a few times before but this thread was always a very tech- and data-oriented thread, so people coming in with takes that aren't firmly data-supported can expect some scrutiny and possibly even pushback (and I think that's quite good in this particular place).

Saw this posted in a discord server I'm in. Crazy how fast this has propagated. Funny that this time Fami got credit even though the image didn't even originate here (unless I'm really turned around about the whole thing).

Ok... does the icon being the same as the Switch's strike as odd to anyone else or would this be "expected" / "not suspicious" in this case?
No, no, you're correct. If it were legit, it should have the ?-Block from Mario instead.

That would mean a developer would go all the way into his developer portal to make a fake ? Doesn't sound right to me

Not real nor fake till proved otherwise
So it's Schrƶdinger's Developer Portal?
But someone will have opened that box by now, so it's already either real or fake.
Someone has already discovered whether the cat is alive or dead.

I'm team real on this one. Would anyone really fake something like this just because?
