Starting to feel like "this is clearly the Switch's swan song" is going to become the new "this is clearly a switch pro/2 launch title"

Sure, but if compromises have to be made somewhere due to storage/bandwidth/whatever, I think that'd make a pretty logical one. Worrying about top quality 4K assets is something that would be wasted on the ~half of play done portably.

Regarding Nate episode, speculative only, don't take as a gospel because if happens before their expectations, you all will call him a lier because of a opinion and not inside info

MVG says “we have no info” but Nate has said on this forum multiple times that from the bits and pieces he knows, his informed opinion is late 2024.

No because he hasn’t been proven incorrect about this topic. Not really the gotcha you thought it was but ok.
 
Why would MVG change his opinion about BC with Switch 2 if the facts haven't changed? Also, both John Linnemann and Richard Leadbetter from Digital Foundry corroborate MVG's findings. There will be no natural BC with Switch 2 but there is hope of a PS5 <-> PS4 environment where Nintendo releases patches.

So you think Nintendo is going to re release all the best Switch 1 games on Switch 2 for people to double dip ? That would be a marketing suicide

A narrative is something you choose to believe so yes, you do have a narrative. Everyone does. Regardless of if Nate's opinion is truly informed or not, the facts remain the facts: he was firm on a Switch Pro releasing late 2022/early 2023, kept saying "I have nothing to add, nothing has changed since my last Switch Pro video" and only stepped in when it was revealed a revision had been cancelled by another media outlet.

Whether you choose to believe this valuable or informed is your narrative indeed.

So... Is it just Kotick from Activision thinks that the NG Switch is as powerful as the PS4 or has he have the official specs?
Also about factory leaks... I mean China is probably the most common source of leaks since many Switch were made in China, but what if leaks can come from elsewhere, like Vietnam since Nintendo also produce their console there at some capacity (mine is made in VN). I remember some tech product did have leaks coming from VN, but it just about phones (the pixel 4 if I remember correctly have its prototype leaks in VN months before reveal).

Nintendo works in mysterious ways sometimes. I thought we knew this by now. Dumb decisions can happen in any corporation at any time, either due to internal or external factors.

Wut? I'm talking about how PS5 handles PS4 games. Virtually all games are playable when patched, so the consumer may view that as BC, but it just isn't. We have to hope that Nintendo catches up to PS in this regard. That's the entire claim.
 
MVG explained exactly why he didn't think there would be traditional BC in a video on his channel that isn't just him bullshitting and making things up. If it lines up with what we know about Drake as well as his findings of how Switch games work on the Switch; a console were had for 7yrs now. I don't see what's wrong with what he said. The guy has ported games to the Switch so he knows his stuff.

Has any of it been refuted using the same bits of information available? I don't get why he's catching flack, I found the video quite informative.

By BC we mean that we can put Switch 1 cartridge in the Switch 2 game slots

I disagree with that framework. Me taking someone’s opinion into account for the sake of speculation doesn’t mean I have some confirmation bias or whatever you were trying to imply. You said “whatever fits your narrative” and now you’re saying that taking his information into account IS my narrative so I’m barely even sure what you’re arguing.

There's no hard evidence to support his claims and he says himself he has no idea what's cooking for Switch 2 so we just find it a bit weird, no one said he was bullshitting or making stuff up. Perhaps he does know a bit more than he's letting on but cannot confirm anything yet so he'd rather not tell anyone yet.

I never said whatever fits your narrative, I specifically said believing what Nate says are informed opinions was your narrative, I wasn't implying anything else. Your narrative is that you believe Nate has informed opinions, that's it. I don't see what the big deal is. Let's just agree to disagree and not derail this thread any further.

"I know his source for this tweet, basically the source gave him fake info about devkits just now going out, ("final" hardware devkits have been going out for months, and been able to be built since August/September last year). Hours after this source shared the information with the "leaker" he tweeted that... He isn't validating his sources at all. We only should trust 1 source for all our hard facts, and that of course... is @10k

Right now information is going to be slow, production should be starting very soon if it does come out this year, but it should be this FY (ending exactly a year from now) however, I do think the end of this calendar year makes the most sense."

I don’t necessarily believe Nate at all. He has been right about things in the past so it is valuable information to the thread. That’s all.

It's being heavily implied he has some weird bias of some kind. In that video he doesn't outright say there is no BC. He offered 3 different scenarios, one of which i don't think is likely at all (that Switch 2 is just a Switch with higher clocks). I did not watch the podcast posted though.

It's all speculation so I don't see any point in acting like he's just saying it troll. Also don't the Drake leaks count as evidence since it works a bit different than the architecture in the Switch? There's also a ton of concern generally from people who've been following about how BC will work on the new system.

Personally, I'm not concerned at all, I think it will definitely have BC. I have no doubt in my mind.
I just find the shade kind of weird, I'm pretty sure NateTheHate and MVG would probably like a new Switch with BC too...

It’s a case of people reacting to things they don’t like. That’s really it. People on this thread have challenged MVG’s opinions in a normal way and it hasn’t been a problem.
