I think there's an argument to be made about the stagnation of the whole AAA landscape, but aiming that critique solely towards Nintendo on a Playstation focused site is funny.

I ALWAYS believe that everyone shall be entitled to their opinion and the way they express it.
Yeah, there's an element of conservatism across the bigger publishers for sure.I think there's an argument to be made about the stagnation of the whole AAA landscape, but aiming that critique solely towards Nintendo on a Playstation focused site is funny.
I do think that there’s a huge difference in the framing between the text in the link, ‘Nintendo games are boring’, and the headline on the article, ‘ Sorry, Nintendo, Your Games Just Don't Excite Me Any More’. The former just reads as a sweeping attempt at platform wars, the latter is just a reasonable summary of the opinion piece.I ALWAYS believe that everyone shall be entitled to their opinion and the way they express it.
That said: I wish I could earn some quick and easy money just like that.
Even a « Sorry, [publisher], your games just don’t excite me anymore » would be a pretty dumb take, or one that would say more about the person who wrote it than it says about the output of said publisher. Even like Ubisoft releases a good game once in a whileI do think that there’s a huge difference in the framing between the text in the link, ‘Nintendo games are boring’, and the headline on the article, ‘ Sorry, Nintendo, Your Games Just Don't Excite Me Any More’. The former just reads as a sweeping attempt at platform wars, the latter is just a reasonable summary of the opinion piece.
Regarding the latter, to each their own. I feel like it’s something that can be thrown at the AAA publishers in general though.
According to Wikipedia, Lion King only hit 245m worldwide, which Mario has likely already beaten. The previous record holder internationally was Frozen 2I believe they updated the domestic prediction, it's around $205m now. It goes up every day. IIRC Lion King 2019 had a $400m + opening weekend, which this won't reach.
I seem to recall during the 90s Mario was deemed more recognizable than Mickey Mouse based on a survey of the youth, so I’d believe this.Wow. Expected Mario to be popular, but not “more popular than Disney” popular. Miyamoto (and Nintendo) has gotta be super happy with that.
The subheadline is "it's not me, it's you", if it was chosen by the writer and not an editor/the website it reads to me as the person trying to frame it as an objective view of the publisher and not just their own opinion on its games.I do think that there’s a huge difference in the framing between the text in the link, ‘Nintendo games are boring’, and the headline on the article, ‘ Sorry, Nintendo, Your Games Just Don't Excite Me Any More’. Think about it. Characters invented for videogames are now as popular as the most popular Characters in the world.I seem to recall during the 90s Mario was deemed more recognizable than Mickey Mouse based on a survey of the youth, so I’d believe this.

I love it.
Have no idea, just saw this and found it funny, also because there are some members here that really loves the Yakuza series.Wasn’t this interview fake
Huh, I had no ideaApparently that's a big reason why Square wanted to use Disney characters for Kingdom Hearts, because they were thinking about making a 3D action game in the vein of Mario 64 and they lamented not having characters of their own that could rival Mario in terms of stardom.
I love Like a Dragon, but I do not believe those characters behave like normal Yakuza at all.Have no idea, just saw this and found it funny, also because there are some members here that really loves the Yakuza series.
Even if your wife doesn't play video games, she could enjoy it, maybe make a deal with her so she can comes with you (exchange her company for a massage, a good meal, whatever), but also if you have to go see it by yourself, there's a lot of adults watching it, so you won't be the only one without kids, don't worry!I still need to see the Mario movie. I am..not sure what my plan will be. I know my wife isn’t interested in it - she didn’t / doesn’t play video games. I guess I would go alone but I don’t want to be next to a bunch of kids, lol. Maybe I’ll wait until I can watch it at home.
Releasing it several days before the weekend was also a very smart movereal Genius move to delay the film into Easter Weekend in hindsight
I went by myself last night. It was later in the evening so it was mostly teenagers and older families. It was a good time!I still need to see the Mario movie. I am..not sure what my plan will be. If Super Mario Movie is a loving recreation of the games, Spirits Within is basically the exact opposite.Today I learned that Final Fantasy The Spirit Within’s production budget was higher the The Mario Movie.
I need to watch that film one day.
And people say not everything has to be on Switch... hah!
Although apparently Nintendo paid a pretty penny back in the 90s for the rights to adapt The 7th Guest for the then in development SNES CD-ROM System, so this could be seen as the result of quite a long-term investment.
This deserves its own thread
This should have all the yeahs the website offersPretty sure I fought him at the bottom of the well in OoT
IIRC it also coincides with the release anniversary for Mario Bros.real Genius move to delay the film into Easter Weekend in hindsight
I haven’t seen it in over a decade. It’s not horrible, but they really should’ve dropped the FF branding from it just to keep expectations in check. It’s good for what it tries to do at a time. But a lot of people went in expecting chocobos and moogles and it ain’t that at all. And after seeing how Advent Children turned out I think that was 110% the right call. Just… they should’ve called it “Spirits Within” and left it at that.Today I learned that Final Fantasy The Spirit Within’s production budget was higher the The Mario Movie.

It's hard to believe now, but that movie passed for photorealistic back then. As a kid I spent half the movie internally unsure if it was CG or live-action.Today I learned that Final Fantasy The Spirit Within’s production budget was higher the The Mario Movie.
