StarTopic Nintendo General Discussion |ST19 April 2023| A tradition unlike any other

I still don’t see any reason to believe that other Nintendo properties outside the Marioverse will get movies. Maybe a TV show for something like Zelda or Splatoon.
Zelda is a massive series with decades of games to draw from and tons of people in Hollywood who would love nothing more than to work on a Zelda movie/show. It's also probably the biggest gaming series in general to never have a serious Hollywood adaptation. It's inevitable and there isn't a single shareholder at Nintendo or Universal who is gonna be like "do we really need a Zelda adaptation?"

I do think it's probably more likely as a show though. It feels like a good way for Nintendo to set up a "prestige" fantasy drama series.

A buddy of mine I play Elden Ring with told me he doesn't like John Wick, so I told him:

"Unfortunately for you, however, you are--"

"Maidenless?"

"No, Excommunicado"

Yall I just heard Kazumi Totaka's voice in a movie theater. Never thought I'd see the day.

Im still at the cinema watching the film.

Its incredible how something so bland as mario became such a beautifullg animated, gripping and above all charismstic film. They really had to create entore concepts for this.

It will be impossible to return to the mario games now where mafio and all characters dont talk, where the animation doesnt scratches what even NLG does and when the world is so static.

I guess that is the depressing side of the film.

An ideal Kirby movie would have Kirby be oblivious of the plot while his friends are in the background with the talking/plot focus goading/guiding/tricking him into where he needs to go with the Kirby parts just being oblivious antics

How in the world do I change this retro Sega look back to the usual website style?? lol

style chooser is at the very bottom of the page on the left

This makes me think we need a confession poll to unveil the honest level of drunk posting that goes on Famiboards....it could explain things...
joke’s on you then, my chaotic stupors are all just because I have chronic conditions and a brain set to boil, I don’t even fuckin’ drink save for like a scattered few a year

checkmate dwellers, I’m abyss unbridled

Oh you're thinking the entire film would be subtitled, like the games? That one Animal Crossing movie didn't have the animal characters speak Animalese. Now, granted, that's another franchise and almost two decades ago, but...
The movie could be in English, but the songs would have to be in their language

Just bought myself a new battery for my original DS on eBay from a relatively local seller, so I should be back in LeafGreen action by the end of the week!

Eh, clickbait title is clickbait. Designed to get a rise out of people and make them look at the “article” which I’m sure is only some haphazard opinion piece without any actual substance.
i wish i could get paid to write dogshit like that. theres even spelling errors too.

Ok good, knocked out all the paralogues I unlocked for scarlet Blaze route in FEWTH. I’ll do the final battle tomorrow. Time to chill with the TGAAR for tonight up in bed

This is more or less an aside, but I'm not a fan of this trend of box office reporting. Current domestic/international gross, and standing relative to other films of this year / all-time are useful, easy-to-understand metrics. Cherry-picking specific statistics where a record has been broken is not. Obviously this movie has been and will continue to be very successful, but "biggest opening for an animated movie in 11+ markets" doesn't actually tell me how much of a success it is, not least because I don't even know which markets they're talking about lol

It's like when you see a movie celebrate getting the second-highest opening from a non-superhero film opening on a non-holiday weekend in September. There's so many qualifiers there I don't even know whether that's a big achievement or not
I feel the need to follow up on this post because I'm reading the movie is on track to be the biggest opening weekend for an animated film ever, both domestically and internationally. Now that is a record!

Wait, like, any animated film ever? Like, including Disney movies?

Wow. Expected Mario to be popular, but not “more popular than Disney” popular. Miyamoto (and Nintendo) has gotta be super happy with that.

I'm reading they're estimating it will hit $195m domestically, which would put it above Lion King. The current international record holder is Frozen 2, which Mario is also projected to beat
I believe they updated the domestic prediction, it's around $205m now. It goes up every day. IIRC Lion King 2019 had a $400m + opening weekend, which this won't reach.

I love how Universal just fell into a goldmine with Nintendo back in 2015. Super Nintendo World turned Universal Osaka and Hollywood into destination parks (Hollywood has been slammed ever since it opened), Super Nintendo World in Orlando is headlining a brand new theme park, and now they have a new mega movie franchise (perfect timing with Jurassic World over and Fast and Furious coming to an end). They're probably extremely happy right now.

Universal is starting to beat Disney when it comes to animation. They have Minions, Nintendo, Shrek, and Kung Fu Panda, plus smaller franchises like Trolls, Sing, Bad Guys, and probably Migration. What a weird timeline we ended up in.

Games journalists when it's a slow news day

Its true though.

There is nothing wrong with opinion pieces, but I just read through the article and it just has little substance. I can’t find a real more in-depth reason why she doesn’t like it.

Oh well.

Probably posted this here before at some point, but I don't think I've ever had a more complicated relationship with a piece of hardware than the Steam Deck. Sometimes I just want to throw it out the window and other times I'm absolutely inthralled with the thing.
It’s incredible how much people are willing to put up with it. It’s a great system, but there’s some weird issues with compatibility.

The Twinmold fight in MM3D is shockingly bad. Like I can't believe Nintendo, whose games famously are well polished, let this slip through.

Anyway, that's MM3D beaten. Despite being my favorite Zelda, I don't see myself ever returning to this remake. It has some nice changes, but most I would say are for the worse. While I was glad to return to Termina after 15 years since my last playthrough, from now on I'm probably sticking to N64.

Gonna fire up Wind Waker HD soon to see how I feel about that remaster.

but I'm wondering if it's probably worthwhile to spend a bit more for something better.
If you can, I'd always spend a bit extra to secure better performance and UX for the now as well as having more longevity.
Maybe you could even find something you'd be able to at least partially upgrade down the line (GPU, CPU, RAM)?!

Don't laugh, folks, but I'm actually interested in seeing how this whole PS handheld remote play device thing will work out for Sony. At the end of the day, similar to Nintendo and Valve with the Switch/Steam Deck, PlayStation's trying to offer the PS(5/N) experience in as many ways/form factors as possible, diversifying their UX portfolio, and I think that makes for an interesting move/attempt; heck, it would make me personally more interested in a PS5, actually! Being able to play it on the big screen or via remote play on a dedicated handheld for that use case, doesn't sound too bad to me (on paper, we obviously will have to wait and see if this comes true first, and second whether it will be a good experience or not).

Games Other People Are Very Interested In Don't Interest Me Any More

That Hyped Game Millions Are Excited For Is Actually Bland And Boring (not an attempt at farming clicks)

Same! And I hate that it's been like that for me. The constant back and forth between using it or rather using my PC is making this too stressful for my liking, and I feel like getting rid of the thing would actually make things easier for me again. And if I want one thing out of engaging with gaming, it's a mostly stress free time. The Deck all too often has me on the opposite end, it's annoying. (But then there are these instances where I freaking love the thing again, lol)

It's a pipe dream, but...
The Legend of Zelda x Studio Ghibli would be incredible
Was about to say that Ghibli would shine even more adapting more chill IPs like Animal Crossing, but then I thought about how great would be a Link’s Awakening adaptation by Studio Ghibli
