StarTopic Nintendo General Discussion |ST19 April 2023| A tradition unlike any other

I guess to throw my own hat into the ring.... well, I got Nier: Automata and the Hitman trilogy (in a roundabout way), so if I had to choose.... I'd probably say the Just Cause games. I'd love to be able to turn my brain off and just blow things up on the train.

Honestly I really can't bring myself to care about rumours for potential singular remasters of Nintendo games anymore. It's tiring as fuck trying to play Nintendo's game of 'what are we gonna arbitrarily remove from the vault this year?' Especially when they just put hundreds of games into said vault a few weeks back.
Nintendo giveth, Nintendo taketh. Literally. They always do these two things. I hate it.

My answer to the 'what games to port to Switch' question has always been, and will probably always be, Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Though I do own a Steam Deck now so the need for them is much lower. Despite that... I'd still like to see it lol

I'm thinking that Ryota Kawade (the director behind the first three paper mario games) is working with the paper mario team again for the TTYD remake/remaster, because he is one of the members that left the team behind the discontinued Fire Emblem Cipher card game and which it happened on the same year as The Origami King was released.

F-Zero GX HD weirdly sounds a biiit more plausible to me than TTYD on Switch. Yeah, it's a practically dead franchise, but you know, AW is back too and we already have a Paper Mario on Switch... But both can happen, of course.

If both F-Zero GX and Kid Icarus Uprising remasters for switch turn out to be true I'll be so dang happy. TTYD can come along for the ride too if it wants.

It finally is the Final Fontasy.

2023:

Metroid Prime Remastered
Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot Camp
F-Zero GX HD
Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door HD

oops they made a year just for me!

Gamecube has been long overdue its renaissance. I'm still of the opinion we should have had GC VC back on Wii U. Given that the Wii U had a full on Wii inside, it could easily have just run $10 Gamecube ROMs that boot directly into Wii mode and then the game itself.

They made a four port controller adapter ffs, and it's just for Smash Bros 4? That's just wasted opportunity. Same with Switch; at least they had the foresight and care to ensure Super Mario Sunshine can be played with a Gamecube controller as intended.

Much as I detest Nintendo's removal of the analog triggers, how many games beyond Sunshine and F-Zero GX made active use of the pressure sensors? I think even some driving games like Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 relegated acceleration to the A button. Point is, even a Wii U Pro Controller could be used for Gamecube ROMs if they were that worried about breaking compatibility (or better yet...bring back the analog triggers that have never been surpassed since 2001).
Agree. Also Melee is the only Smash game that uses the analog triggers (for Light Shield).
Cool video about this:

Also, Its cool to see Gamecube remasters, I dont think Melee will get a remaster (it would be cool).
I think Melee will be playable when Gamecube games are made available on NSO on Switch 2.

Adding onto my list from before: Billy Hatcher & The Giant Egg […] Sonic Adventure 1 and 2

F-Zero GX, Kid Icarus: Uprising and Paper Mario; The Thousand Year Door all getting remastered in the same year would automatically make it the best year ever.

ngl, this is one rumor I want to be real. TTYD is practically impossible to play without emulation these days since the physical versions cost over 100$ USD.

The backtracking in paper Mario TTYD is self aware.

There’s an extended joke about it too, I doubt a remaster will even think about changing it lol

Even then. This remaster is the type that is best just leaving as is. Just be nicer and whatnot. Remaster music too would be nice.

Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 (25 year anniversary this year JMON), and that's off the top of my head.
Same but every time these are ported it's like those cruel generation loss copy of a copy of a copy handouts from elementary school lol

I recently revisited 1 on PC with the Dreamcast restorative mod and whew, what a joy. Super fun handheld (PC) games for travel.

I hope Paper Mario TTYD is true, I love the original PM so finally getting to play the sequel would be nice.

Give me a Thousand Year Door remaster and a Worms 3D remaster, and I'll be set.
Question of the week

The Mario film just came out and it was a rousing success.
What is your dream Video Game IP film?
I'll also answer the question of the week, since everyone else is ignoring it in favor of speculation chat... my answer is Splatoon, of course. Imagine seeing the Squid Sisters on the big screen, with more killer tunes blasting through the theater speakers.

At this point, it is clear that the Super Mario Bros Movie is a run away success, reviewers be damned. The sky is the limit for where things could go at this point for Nintendo and everyone else. So I want to know, what is your dream video game film? I don't want to hear what is only possible. I don't want to hear about what is feasible or realistic. I am giving out a blank check here. You can get anything made with it. What are you asking for?

My dream film: Star Fox. Yes, I know I am a big Star Fox fan so it shouldn't be a surprise, but we need more Star Fox in our lives. Give me an animated Star Fox film already!

So what say you Fami?
I've said it before a few times but I've dreamt of a Peter Jackson style Chrono Trigger since I was a kid

Well, Pokemon got several movies, Nier: Automata got an anime.... Honestly, an animated Hades movie would be sick as Hell (heh). Imagine the animated trailer, but as a full-length feature film with all the VAs from the game.

hey gang what did I mi—

ah

any other transphobic skidmarks out there this afternoon? I’m in a spring cleaning kinda mood

Oh true, I wasn't sure if I was recalling that correctly but at the same time 20 years later and I still never figured out how to wave dash in game ahaha. I'll give that video a watch later!

Look, I'm not saying he shouldn't do the time for a white collar crime, but he could definitely have a terminal in his cell to code out a remaster with some online connectivity to Sega's servers to ensure SA1&2 and BH&TGE are realized in some or any capacity

Forgot to say on my previous post but I uploaded a new remix to YouTube:

It's a chill take on Shooting Star Summit from the original Paper Mario. Hope you enjoy!

An animated adaptation of Sayonara Wild Hearts with an expanded story.

I can dream, dammit! I can dream!

Imagine possessing so little imagination that you see a world with dinosaurs that throw their own eggs as weapons, sentient bomb-folk who help load people into cannons, a society of half-mushroom people, a plumber who turns into a cat and a raccoon and a bee, and a giant turtle who wants to marry a human princess and you think “a character that is trans? that would be TOO MUCH”

Lately I've been playing a couple of last minute 3DS purchases.

First is Dr. Mario Miracle Cure, which is fun but has left me with a couple of questions.
  1. Where did Mario study medicine?
  2. How is Dr. Luigi so dang FAST? There are these VS. modes where you have to clear the course quicker than Dr. Luigi, and he chucks these pills in the perfect spots at light speed!!! If anyone here likes to argue for Luigi's superiority, there's an extra point in your favor.
I've also been playing Pokemon Picross. In that time, I have learned that I suck at Picross. It was a free download, but I didn't take the time to buy the micro transactions, which I heard could really slow my progress down the road. I'm not getting my hopes up, but it would be cool to see another Pokemon Picross for the switch sometime soon!

Miyamoto said you can’t trust Dr Mario’s medical advice.

Also, it may take a while, but you could conceivably get enough gems or whatever in Pokémon picross to unlock everything for free. Would probably need a year straight of daily plays and clearing puzzles though.

I want no other video game movies. If I have to pick one, I guess monkey island since you can just take the story whole cloth. Maybe even do it like the Netflix series where apparently you get to decide how it goes or some such.

Oh hey I can finally access The site again!

Hm… with advance wars and ToTK being so close together I think I’m going to have to skip Dokapon kingdom connect. Tight budget, iffy internet and no one to play with is a rough combo.

Now am I finally giving in and starting Nier replicant or just getting back to a game I already started on switch

Remember easter / bunny day 2020 event in AC. Fun times right??

8Gba7oF.jpg
I was having a good day until I had to remember this

It was really this moment where I thought to myself “I don’t know if a high profile first party Nintendo game has ever fallen so far below my expectations”. Eight years of waiting and I still get a sad sinking feeling in my chest thinking back to this time.
