Nintendo's already having Nintendo Switch units be mass produced in Vietnam, so I don't see why not.I do wonder if there will now be production in Vietnam as well to avoid international uncertainty and that may be why the factory leaks are different this time.
US election is next year and relations with China is rock bottom. Tariff threats could return even if the Dems win
Hey Nate, have you heard about Jeff Grubbs new rumor? What do you think of it? Is he in danger of losing some more hair, or...?I mean, yeah; GDC will certainty be a forum of conversation for many industry individuals -- whether any of what is shared via frien-da is reported by outlets/media remains unknown. But GDC will give clarity in some regard.
Do we really need his insight on a nothing comment that people are weirdly running with? Grubb relayed what he was hearing but never verified it and he doesn't believe it. His very own prediction like 20 seconds later was that he thinks it'd be announced late this year and released early next year.Hey Nate, have you heard about Jeff Grubbs new rumor? What do you think of it? Is he in danger of losing some more hair, or...?
Grubb's gonna lose more hair just from the stress of the attentionHey Nate, have you heard about Jeff Grubbs new rumor? What do you think of it? Is he in danger of losing some more hair, or...?
Now just waiting for that Bloomberg article to drop with the title "Nintendo readying next-generation console to release late this year".
SHOULD be in Winter 2023
I imagine the target was always early 2024, but they're leaving wiggle room in case they need to delay it out to March/Aprilhuh never noticed they said should instead of will hmmmm.
I lived in Japan for a pretty long time. You didn't.somehow this is the most ridiculous statement in a forty thousand post thread
I'll take your word on the tea, but that's still a preposterously arrogant thing to say about people from any country, whether said sincerely or snidelyI lived in Japan for a pretty long time. You didn't.
Also, you should know better than taking such hyperbolic and outrageous statement at face value.
But well, you just wanted to clash so I won't entertain this further.
And the tea from Shizuoka is really better than the one from Uji.
I will will Switch Advance into existence and you can't stop meI can not allow people to call it the Switch Advance. Switch Ultra or bust.
Switch U is bust.I can not allow people to call it the Switch Advance. Switch Ultra or bust.
Sure they would. Especially if what they chose instead makes for a better showcase of the hardware.
Reminder that Nintendo's release schedule is completely empty after July, with the only undated game being Prime 4. They've got stuff to announce.
I'll take your word for it, but it's still a preposterously arrogant thing to say, whether said sincerely or snidely
ohhh, non-Japanese in JapanTo answer you seriously*, there are two biases which I can think of which can give this impression:
1. Foreigners visiting or in my case living in Japan are often more invested in the local culture/country than those immigrating other countries. I was fluent in Japanese before moving there. I didn't know shit about Spanish when moving to Barcelona, and I'm honestly still not that great. Therefore, immigrants arrive in the country with an already broad knowledge of what to expect, probably broader than for people moving to another place.
2. Japanese people, from what I've seen, are often deeply invested in 1 or 2 hobbies, or at least a more limited number than in the west. They will be unbeatable at the said hobby and will dedicate a lot of time to it. It can be mountaineering, fishing, kickboxing, French classic ballet etc. But since it takes time to acquire such knowledge, the same person will in return have a more limited knowledge of things that just don't interest them. And since the favorite activity of an immigrant like me in Japan was to talk about what he knew in Japan, it often gave the impression that locals knew very little about their own country, and I'm far from being the only one who got that impression.
*Obviously, everything I'm saying here stems from my own impression.
Sorry, cant remember which YouTuber looked into this, but it does take some effort to look into. You have to file for a Trademark which means fronting the cash for the application and then they inform you if its available or not. Switch 4K was already taken by Nintendo when they applied for the trademark. I believe it was NintendoPrime that talked about it, but it was another person who actually was applying for trademarks to see what was and wasn't taken.I'd love to see a source on Nintendo holding the trademark for Switch 4K!
We appreciate you. Its not fair, but it had to be done. I do think you will enjoy the OLED model, and its always nice to have an additional dock to use on another TV.this is because i just bought an oled
you’re all welcome
No they wouldnt, same like they didnt with Zelda BotW for current Switch. Zelda TotK is huge and one of biggest Nintendo games ever, doesnt make too much sense for Nintendo to launch next gen hardware 5-6 months after launch of sucha game, and thats why they are most likely not releasing Switch 2 this year.
TotK is very pretty. Its engine is improved compared to BotW, which was a port from the Wii U. However, it's still building on top of existing assets from the original six year old Wii U game, and new assets won't deviate much for the sake of consistency i.e. sky islands and new enemies will not suddenly incorporate much higher polycounts or a new lighting engine. Would it shine in 4K 60 with increased LoD, texture filtering, shadow res, AA, etc? Yes. But it doesn't need to be the launch game for this PS4+ level hardware, I can imagine some other title Nintendo puts out that at first glance will be obvious "yes, this isn't running on the current Switch". Maybe even a title that uses RTX. Like Kirby and the Ray-Traced Frosting of Destiny.
Like Serif said, Zelda TotK is game that looks better than BotW, but still very similar. So its very much a game grounded in 10 year old technology. I think Nintendo will really market the Switch 2 as a 4K console and want to show off what it can do that your existing Switch cannot. A new 3D Mario is likely the launch title that they will really showcase, but it could also be a one two combo of Mario 3D and Metroid Prime 4. Prime 4 will never sell numbers like Mario or Zelda, but could be well positioned to be a graphical showcase.
Apparently the original Pokemon leaker made another post:
They specify that DLC2 is scheduled for release in early 2024 and the Switch model they mentioned is「次世代機」AKA "Next Generation." This doesn't make the original post any more legit, but it at least clears any assumptions about what the "New Switch Models" could be. Even if it turns out to be bullshit, at least they prevented an endless back and forth
Ko Shiota, General Manager of Hardware Department added:I also believe that we should quickly graduate from the current controller, and we are attempting all kinds of things. Our objective is to achieve an interface that surpasses the current controller, where what the player does is directly reflected on the screen, and the user can clearly feel the result. This has not been achieved yet. We have tried all kinds of motion controllers, but none seem to work for all people. As the company that knows the most about controllers, we have been striving to create a controller that can be used with ease, and that will become the standard for the next generation.
We have not yet invented an all-purpose controller that is unlike any of the current devices.
You may have accidentally hit the ignore thread button, I've done that before.Did the thread get unpinned? I can’t find it without searching for posts anymore. Did I do something dumb?
I've said for a while now that TotK suited a Switch Pro but was insufficient for a Switch 2Can you imagine if 60fps/480p Majora's mask had been a cross generation flagship title for the GameCube. Ridiculous right?
Well, that's TOTK being the flagship for Drake. We're already lucky that we at least live through the age of back compatibility, and we'll be able to play TOTK at a much higher resolution a year later.
They will absolutely market Switch Advance with a TotK patch and make that exact statement (this is the best way to play Switch games), but I don't think it should be or needs to be the headliner. They could have a big game in the form of a Bowser's Fury style 3D Mario that demonstrates a graphical leap and really leverages 4K resolution. We are anticipating Switch 2 to have the same form factor as Switch 1, so I think power and exclusive games will be the biggest differences to highlight in marketing. I don't think they should undersell this console, they need to make it obvious Day 0 "this is a much more powerful hybrid console that is capable of 4K and can produce next-gen visuals".Nah, it's not point about "is this running on current Switch" but about "this new hardware is place where this new greate game plays and looks best".
Also its not only point about how pretty game is, its more about how big and strong game is, its point about marketing.
Marketing changes? What I missed? That plus the factual stuff we know about, the timeline of T239, Nintendo's stockpile, and their recent marketing changes.
Different team to 3D Mario, so, hopefully nothing bad.If there is late 2023 launch I wonder what it means for 2D Mario.
It won’t.if it's late 2023 (and I know that's a big if), I really hope Pikmin 4 has a great next gen patch
Fits right in with the pitched Wii namesI like the name Next Generation Machine
I think that would be true if those f us that were expecting TOTK to be a showpiece on next hardware didn't expect them to add anything to it.Can you imagine if 60fps/480p Majora's mask had been a cross generation flagship title for the GameCube. Ridiculous right?

Dare I say:if it's late 2023 (and I know that's a big if), I really hope Pikmin 4 has a great next gen patch
Nintendo wants you to suffer

I'm pretty sure those advocating for TOTK switch 2 update would include not only higher native rendering and higher fpsas well as DLSS support for higher resolutions still ... but also High res textures, more advanced shaders where appropriate, Raytraced effects, (be it shadows, lighting, reflections GI ... AO... or a balanced mix) ... would be leagues ahead visually than the switch version.
If they aren't willing to do that then, yeah ,... you'd be right... it wouldnt be that big of a deal for sswitch 2, and should put out something else to showcase it's features...
More than likely though knowing nintendo they'll have a few things that showcase whatever it is they'll be pushing this next gen.
Nintendo wants you to suffer
The narative started when it was still a switch pro, and in that context its the best game to demonstrate (next to Metroid Prime 4).I don't think that a game built on the skeleton of a WiiU game is what you want as flagship to demonstrate the capabilities of your new console, which arguably ONLY selling point is to be more powerful.
The narrative that Zelda had to release with the Switch 2 was exactly that: just a narrative, which was repeated so much that it ended up etched in our brain.
thats...not the same at all?Can you imagine if 60fps/480p Majora's mask had been a cross generation flagship title for the GameCube. Ridiculous right?
Well, that's TOTK being the flagship for Drake. We're already lucky that we at least live through the age of back compatibility, and we'll be able to play TOTK at a much higher resolution a year later.
TotK is big, but it's not so big that it absolutely demands new hardware release alongside it. Especially when Nintendo's other big launch title series, Mario (both in 2D and 3D forms), has been conspicuously absent for so long.Disagree, they wouldnt, same like they didnt with Zelda BotW for current Switch.
Zelda TotK is huge and one of biggest Nintendo games ever, doesnt make too much sense for Nintendo to launch next gen hardware 5-6 months after launch of sucha game, and thats why they are most likely not releasing Switch 2 this year but next year (maybe even in 2025.).
Quoted. It will use a Switch branding but it won't be called Switch 2. Also not Super Nintendo Switch since SNS in Japan is refered to social media. Don't quote me.
I think the guy simply meant that.. It's a next generation machine.I like the name Next Generation Machine
