StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (Read the staff posts before commenting!)

It was announced officially for 2022, so you are wrong. The first public delay happened last spring when they changed the 2022 release date to Spring 2023.

It's likely not the first delay behind the scenes though, considering it was announced in 2019 with a story trailer about half a year before COVID hit.

What I'm saying is that they probably decided it wasn't worth delaying it another half a year on top of all of the other delays.

Yeah my bad, it had 2022. at 1st, but than Zelda BotW had multiply delays..

I understand what you saying, but I disagree, I pretty sure that there will not be Switch 2 launch this year, and if they releasing this year Zelda TotK would be launch game.

"Nintendo is not" is something I hear since ever. Things change. Like "Nintendo will not use DLC like others" and then they're even announcing DLC before releases.

Put Zelda on Switch 1, then release a big graphics, frame, resolution and blabla update D1 only on Switch 2 that will ofc have some other game at launch.

Of Course they change, because they change they dont want again to make Wii U mistakes, they will have strong launch game for Switch 2 in any case.

Its not same, they could release Zelda BotW for Wii U 1st and than for Switch, but they didnt, they done same thing with Zelda TP for GC and Wii,
its point about much stronger marketing when you have launch game for new hardware.

Not to be a debbie downer, but most of these are mild rumors at best. Still waiting for something more tangible

presumably an extensive patch & DLC will be tied to Switch Advance so it won't be quite the same as being empty handed re Zelda. sort of like what's being heard about Pokemon, if the release comes sooner rather than later. why not delay Zelda another six months? as others mentioned - enough delays already, the game being done & Drizzle might not be coming in 2023, though there's certainly a swelling of potential software toward the end of the year.

My post was tongue-in-cheek.

encouraging rumours they may be, but nothing beats an Uncle popping out the woodwork with news of a new mould & production lines getting ready to go. if you thought the Uncles weren't still going to play a pivotal role here you'd be mistaken #teamUncle

I do wonder if there will now be production in Vietnam as well to avoid international uncertainty and that may be why the factory leaks are different this time.

US election is next year and relations with China is rock bottom. Tariff threats could return even if the Dems win

If Totk is gonna be a launch title then they better announce the system like now since Zeldaโ€™s release date is soon. I donโ€™t foresee them delaying the game again. Otherwise on [Redacted] it will be a port that has enhancements as a launch title.

Everytime a somewhat realistic rumor pops-up on the internet, a random insider comes out of the woods to say they heard something similar. But be careful, it may or may not happen!
My tea leaves have as much credibility.
Sir, your leaves def dont have the credibility grubb has

Wizard game, TotK, Kirby, Fornite, Sonic Frontiers, and some others I can't remember. Same one that talked about NSO continuing on the successor.

I was told Nintendo was gonna nuke their entire service & start over again because Nintendo gonna Nintendo. Say it ainโ€™t so for the most logical decision ever that they have been talking about forever.

Everytime the topic of Nintendo and BC comes up on other places, I involuntarily wince at the barrage of easily refutable and ahistorical meme responses of "because Nintendo no BC ever something something $60 Wii U ports" &c &c

HAHAHA OH WOW, FUCK

I had my 3DS plugged in while I was running all these updates, and in the span of an hour the battery started expanding. I've unplugged it immediately and powered it down completely. It's a little warm on the back but not burning. Uhh...how screwed am I?
you might want to remove it and buy a new battery

It's especially dumb since, thanks to them transferring DSiWare to 3DS, they were the first company to ever do digital BC tmk. There is 0 reason to think they wouldn't move NSO or digital purchases to the next console outside of trolling or excessive pessimism

It really is transparent at who has been paying even a modicum of attention to what Nintendo does & who is pushing agendas. My favorite is when they are wrong but still say they are right since Nintendo cannot be trusted.

Agree, but my point is that because Zelda is releasing in May, we will not have Switch 2 launch this year.

Zelda is not the only thing Nintendo launches consoles with. They only started doing it sometimes with the Wii.

If you look at my post history (you really don't have to), you'll see that my tea leaves, which incidentally are from Uji city*, so really not far from nintendo's HQ, have been surprisingly accurate on the topic of a new hardware. And I have been more stable than whatever Nintendo OS update in predicting 2024 as the release date of the new console.

*Japanese people will tell you it's the best tea in Japan, but you live in Japan, you realize that there's no one who knows less about Japan than the average Japanese person. The tea from Shizuoka is actually better, but less accurate at predicting Nintendo's decisions due to the distance.

That plus the factual stuff we know about, the timeline of T239, Nintendo's stockpile, and their recent marketing changes.

I can see a late 2023 Switch Advance release without Zelda since Nintendo may not have wished to delay the game further and wanted a big title for H1, and if they felt TotK wasn't sufficient to communicate the power differential and may have another title lined up for that purpose. The differences between GCN/Wii and Wii/Wii U meant the Zelda launch titles for those consoles had relative graphical parity, while Drake is a generational leap and may benefit from a different game. Yes - Zelda would obviously look better on the new console, but it'd be more obvious to us than the usual consumer who may not nitpick such things as aliasing or texture detail.

They already have.

Ofcourse it's not, but Zelda TotK is huge game and Nintendo would hardly pass opportunity to be launch game for new hardware is launch is near.
Sure they would. Especially if what they chose instead makes for a better showcase of the hardware.

Reminder that Nintendo's release schedule is completely empty after July, with the only undated game being Prime 4. They've got stuff to announce.

Apparently the original Pokemon leaker made another post:

They specify that DLC2 is scheduled for release in early 2024 and the Switch model they mentioned isใ€Œๆฌกไธ–ไปฃๆฉŸใ€AKA "Next Generation." This doesn't make the original post any more legit, but it at least clears any assumptions about what the "New Switch Models" could be. Even if it turns out to be bullshit, at least they prevented an endless back and forth

Oh yeah...actually youre right. In the prior years we always had long anounced games (bayo, mp4, nmh3, zelda..), then we had rumored (mpr, pikmin, ww/tp)... Currently we only have 1 game thats anounced but not dated. Weird...

NVN2 + T239 is why I am not entertaining late 2024 / early 2025.

The driver provides four levels of enhancement. The highest level (4) requires a more powerful RTX card. This makes me think that the VSR technologyโ€”at the highest levelโ€”may not be suitable for Switch 2 to upscale non-DLSS games. However, the computational cost at a lower VSR level might(?) be light enough for Drake to render the game plus VSR. Obviously it isn't as good as DLSS, but could be an option to upscale legacy games.
I'm skeptical it would be a better option than something more straightforward and gaming-intended like FSR. VSR at least in part is using deep learning so those tensor cores can be put to use cleaning up compression artifacts, which a newly rendered game frame isn't going to have.

I think I just put 2 and 2 together

I know it's been a recurring thing that the T239 info suggests it's close to if not already in production, leading to the idea that Switch 2 must be soon because it would be prohibitively expensive for Nintendo to stockpile chips and other components for Switch 2, right??

What if that's why the second floor of Nintendo Store NYC is shut down? What if they found their storage solution and it's above their own store?

Does anyone have Nicolas Cage or George Clooney on speed-dial?

This also offers some additional information to verify against, specifying that the special Terastall appearance is related to a new mechanic.

Switch 1 marketing cycle essentially

I wouldnโ€™t be surprised if Nintendo starts mentioning next gen in late April/early May when the current fiscal year results are released.

For context, in late April 2016 Nintendoโ€™s dropped that Zelda U would launch on both Wii U and NX, delay to early 2017.

Great, so he's claiming a 2023 DLC will launch in 2024.

Glad we can pack that rumour away for the moment with holes that big.

No way it's a port. The same game, just, with an update to take advantage of the hardware. Like Xbox Series X got Forza Horizon 4 at launch with a patch. Not a port, the same game, just updated.

Nintendo literally has one listed for early 2024.
Yeah, and Splatoon 3 Inkopolis releases on May 31st, 2023 ๐Ÿ˜‚

eShop placeholder dates don't mean anything beyond "probably before this date, maybe". However the reveal used the year "2023โ€, very plainly.

In no uncertain terms, if they were aiming to release it in early 2024, they wouldn't use 2023 in the marketing.

I think they are gonna have both. A port with the enhancements of the patch. And, the bc game with the patch.
