I think Xbox gets a remaster and Nintendo gets the N64 rom on NSO+EP. Nintendo gets the final yes/no say on whether or not Goldeneye gets released so they get to set the terms, and it's way more valuable to them to get people into their $50 subscription than to sell the game standalone on the eShop.
I think both show up on both platforms. They could add Goldeneye to Rare Replay with a simple patch for the purists out there and release the remastered version. Nintendo could add the n64 rom to NSO and also get the remastered version. Microsoft would get a slight advantage out of the deal because of GamePass.

The only Nintendo franchise as consistently bad/underwhelming as Star Fox is Yoshi. Look into your hearts, you know it to be true.

(I thought Assault was cool)

In regards to Goldeneye, I do wonder if Banjo-Kazooie and potentially other old Rare games on NSO factored into this new supposed deal?

For you see, that was actually Microsoft and Rare's original proposal to Nintendo back in the Wii era: that in addition to Goldeneye, they'd also put the rest of Rare's back catalogue on the Wii VC.

I have zero knowledge of this at the moment but I feel like N64 expansion pack is probably already more successful than they were anticipating. I could be 100% wrong.

I figure yeah, if they want to push it they'll put Goldeneye on it, but from the way they're announcing games and treating it I'm getting the sense that it's successful enough.

oh, hello there! I may have accidentally stumbled into the wrong forums.

Something to consider. I don't have confirmation of this, but someone like Nate or Emily could easily find this out.

I was under the impression that Nintendo was publishing GTA Trilogy physically in NA at the very least. While digitally, it did not launch in a good state, many issues have now been addressed. COULD or WOULD Nintendo be interested in giving this game one last chance to hype the game a little before physical launch this week?

Just a thought.

Oh nice, top of the page. Calculated

Nintendo Direct - February 9, 2022

Cold open: the Rare logo appears. An iconic theme begins to play. It's Goldeneye 007, coming to NSO later today. Cool. (Game Pass gets the remaster, also later today)

Koizumi appears, yaddy yaddy yadda. Now headlines.

Headline set #1: Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp (April something), Buddy Mission BOND (May), Alan Wake Remastered, XCOM Chimera Squad, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition physical

Now the real fun begins. New Fire Emblem game. (The Japanese Direct has it as the first announcement) Yay. It's coming this summer, has new stuff in it idk.

Headline set #2: Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series (shadowdrop), Aragami 2, Tactics Ogre Remastered, ENIGMA ARCHIVES: Rain Code, Zombie Army 4, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Kirby 30th Game & Watch

Second showcase game: it's Splatoon 3 again. June something. Expanded PvE mode, more campaign details, first testfire coming in March exclusively to NSO subscribers.

Headline set #3 (home stretch): Everybody Switch (May), Lara Croft and the isometric spinoff games (shadowdrop), LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Warioware: Get it Together! DLC (first content later in February), Sol Cresta, World of Demons (shadowdrop)

Sizzle reel: MLB The Show 22, Assassin's Creed: Ezio Collection, Rune Factory 5, Chocobo GP, Remnant: From the Ashes, It Takes Two: Cloud Version (shadowdrop), Triangle Strategy (demo shadowdrop)

Back-to-back ending: Monolith Soft logo appears. Xenoblade 3. Cutscene only reveal trailer. Coming 2022. But... one more thing! It's Metroid Prime HD, surprise! Metroid Prime 1 but with improved geometry, textures, and a shiny new lighting engine that will probably be controversial in the end. Fall 2022. And fin.

Twitter will be mad at how weebcore it is. Famiboards will be disappointed at no Zelda. Era will be Era about it.
A few edits. Amiibo Festival 2, Mario Sports Mix 2, Naruto to Boruto, and Live a Live remake are out. LEGO Star Wars, Everybody Switch, Sol Cresta, World of Demons, GTA physical, and Buddy Mission BOND are in.

Tomorrow at 9am ET will be a tweet promoting the GTA Trilogy. The February Direct has been cancelled due to too many 3D Mario rankings listing Sunshine above 64 on FamiBoards.

lol of all things.

The game may surprise people in terms of content & offerings. It's not really a sequel, as much as just using the 1-2 brand.
That’s what I speculated before we got more details. It won’t be a straight sequel. Just in “essence”. I compared it to Chrono Trigger to Chrono Cross

I may be wrong, but I think this is the first official confirmation of the game being affiliated with 1-2 Switch rather than just "stinky horseperson casual game incinerator". Thanks to all the horse memes, a game I wouldn't have cared about whatsoever has now garnered my morbid curiosity

If it's not called 2-3 Everybody Switch or 3-4 Everybody Switch I will be pissed.

The 1-2 Switch world lore will have to be retconned.

Same here, if anything for more avatar material

Nintendo is publishing the game in the western markets. The UPC code is their code. Same as they published Doom & Wolf2.

They'll probably just tweet about it.

Honestly you should probably blame the Moto himself for this lmao

Dylan Cuthbert said it himself, Miyamoto never intended or saw Star Fox purely as a generic rail-shooter IP like what most of its fanbase wants. Going by his words, in Miyamoto's eyes, Star Fox can be "anything we want to think up". It's probably a big factor into why he thought Dinosaur Planet would be a good fit for Star Fox.

Like really, Star Fox 2 already showed that Star Fox was always destined to be this weird experimental franchise. I guess it's just so happened that that game got canned for 20 years and we ended up getting SF64 in its place, which solidifed Star Fox as being a pure rail-shooter IP in the face of the fans/public, even though that's not exactly what Miyamoto had in mind, probably.
And my thing is this: it's fine if you want Star Fox to be experimental and open to redefining itself. Between its roots being founded in Thunderbirds, and obviously picking up the likes of Star Wars and Gundam along the way, you have plenty of serialized sci-fi dramas to source from that have done similar "reinventions" over time.

You just need a solid foundation to focus on, first and foremost.

Yeah, my hot take is that I think people would be more open towards Star Fox experimenting, if said experiments just turned out better.

Like in Assault's case, I don't think that many people would complain about there being on-foot stages if they were actually well designed, and not just obviously repurposed multiplayer arenas with enemy spawners.

I have defended Super Mario Sunshine enough on this website but I will just reiterate my take about 3D All-Stars here for convenience:

Super Mario 64 is an old reliable pick-up truck.
Super Mario Sunshine is a speedboat piloted by someone who is more cocaine than man.
Super Mario Galaxy is a waterslide for babies.

I think Everybody Switch will be its own announcement which is good for me. It was taking up a Nintendo announcement slot in my predictions

So, lots of rumors regarding 3rd parties and Switch. I am quite sure the Pandemic and WFH slowed some of these 3rd party ports. If even a fraction of these release this year, it could be a great year for Switch. There are so many rumors out there right now. Obviously, many will be proven false. It seems like Batman and Goldeneye are accurate though.

According to the rumors on the inter-webs...in 2022 we could see...

Batman
Destiny 2 (cloud)
FF Pixel Remaster
DQ3HD
Tomb Raider
Borerlands 3
TMNT
Metal Slug Tactics
Overwatch 2
Red Dead
Persona
Mortal Kombat

-and, finally...does EA have more games? Mass Effect?...and there is an article about how the NFL needs to be represented on ALL gaming platforms. ...SO...be it 2k Arcade game, Madden, a new tecmo bowl, or even Madden Retro...seems like something is up there.

Just 3rd parties, that would be an impressive year.

I've been away for a while so I'm trying to catch up - other than the big sale starting on Thursday, what else is out there that suggests a potential Direct for this week?

I have (now postponed) jury duty on the 9th so it was always going to be then.
Tomorrow morning this thread will be moving at hyper speed. Isn't this our first Direct here?
We had a nindies presentation but yeah this will be our first Direct.
