Maybe in the future a direct opens with Star Fox being announced and closes with Pikmin 4 announced. Miyamoto will host the direct.
I immediately remembered that in September Direct when they finally showed Bayo 3, Koizumi said: We've announced this game in 2017 so we thank you for your patience. Miyamoto should say: We've announced this game in 2015 and we thank you you've been waiting for so long.

Pikmin got screwed being on GC and Wii U. The best selling game of a port on Switch completely shows there’s a good audience for a new title (at least 3+ million)

I think he meant Starfox Command. It was ok, but not people expected. and it controlled awfully.

Derachi is right, there's no audience for Starfox. Japan even straight up don't care for it at all. Reviving it one more time is waste of money and resources. Hell there is no longer an audience even for Rogue Squadron.
I actually just straight up forgot Command existed lmao

In any case: They keep giving Star Fox chances and the best they can muster is "well they just remade Star Fox 64 and it was good I guess." I do not want to dunk on people for what they like and want but I just do not understand why they put these (stinky) horseblinders on with regards to Star Fox. The series keeps getting chances and it keeps getting unremarkable games that garner unremarkable sales numbers.

Again, I just want them to give F-Zero a chance to come out and be unremarkable and not sell!

Did someone say chaos?

Nintendo doesn't even acknowledge Pikmin 4 exists like they do Prime 4 or other titles. Although I think we are due for Pikmin soon? If not on Switch then during the first few years of Switch 2.

F-Zero doesn’t have the backing of Miyamoto is honestly the difference here.

Get RGG Studio to do it! They love to put racing minigames in literally everything they do, I bet they can make a solid high-speed racing game even IF Nagoshi got NetEased

just.. give it to someone else so you don't have to dedicate internal resources to it, nintendo!

I mean if you're going to present it as a choice between these two series getting a new game (which it isn't) I'd rather they didn't bring back F-Zero at all than run it into the ground as well.

Yeah 100%, I think there is a world where a new Star Fox game comes out that is both good, and sells well, but it would have to be a drastically changed formula - honestly I'd imagine it would be something closer to Star Fox Adventure, but a third-person shooter instead. And at that point, why not just make something new?

F-Zero, on the other hand, I've just got a sneaking suspicion it would do well on Switch. Feels like there's a build-up of communal excitement for the series even from people who have never played it, who would go on to buy a new one. Add in the Twitter/social media boost that every Nintendo game gets these days in the Switch era (thank you share button) and the meme-ability of Captain Falcon and his cast of strange characters, and it could do really decent numbers.

I think F-Zero would need to come out swinging if they really wanted it to take off. I think right now it'd probably do 1-2 million, but if they gave it a proper push, it could get up to 3. Maybe crank up the "falcon punch" memes and call it the Dark Souls of racing games. That's an extra million sales right there.

If Mario Kart is indeed coming this year, then yeah it’ll be announced this week.
Nah, I can't see a Mario Kart happening this year. I think it'll come like ~6-8 months after the Dane Switch launches, whenever that is.

most of people's ideas for star fox should be driven by a new IP

Honestly you should probably blame the Moto himself for this lmao

Dylan Cuthbert said it himself, Miyamoto never intended or saw Star Fox purely as a generic rail-shooter IP like what most of its fanbase wants. Going by his words, in Miyamoto's eyes, Star Fox can be "anything we want to think up". It's probably a big factor into why he thought Dinosaur Planet would be a good fit for Star Fox.

Like really, Star Fox 2 already showed that Star Fox was always destined to be this weird experimental franchise. I guess it's just so happened that that game got canned for 20 years and we ended up getting SF64 in its place, which solidifed Star Fox as being a pure rail-shooter IP in the face of the fans/public, even though that's not exactly what Miyamoto had in mind, probably.

cannot believe people want a new Star Fox when we've had new Star Fox games sprinkled over the past 20 years and most of them have been "just ok" to "bad"

you're like sonic fans lmao

Give F-Zero a chance to disappoint!!
This honestly makes it harder. I just want Star Fox 64-2, I don't know why they made so many bad games instead of just making more of what everyone loved.

Star Fox Zero was cool though.

I wonder if the reason Majora’s Mask doesn’t have a date is because it will be after the Direct along with a Goldeneye drop at the same time?
N64 NSO games don't have dates until the day before, and it's usually a "we need headlines this week" kinda drop. Don't expect it this week. Maybe next week?

I'm not convinced anymore that Goldeneye is gonna be an NSO game.
I think Xbox gets a remaster and Nintendo gets the N64 rom on NSO+EP. Nintendo gets the final yes/no say on whether or not Goldeneye gets released so they get to set the terms, and it's way more valuable to them to get people into their $50 subscription than to sell the game standalone on the eShop.

Again, if they want to make Star Fox successful they have to expand the formula by customizing your Airwing and implementing Third Person elements similar to Ratchet & Clank gameplay.

Just don't make Star Fox a some sort of "open world" because they already tried that once and it didn't set the world on fire.

command shows there's a ton of market for star fox if you lean into the weird space opera story, but that probably hard to do since miyamoto has such a strong connection to it
