I have zero knowledge of this at the moment but I feel like N64 expansion pack is probably already more successful than they were anticipating. I could be 100% wrong.

I figure yeah, if they want to push it they'll put Goldeneye on it, but from the way they're announcing games and treating it I'm getting the sense that it's successful enough.

My friend got both a Switch Lite and PS5 this Christmas. Spent the xmas period playing Odyssey then messaged me a few weeks ago saying he signed up to NSO and was working his way through Paper Mario. Then messaged me yesterday and was like wft Banjo Kazooie is on here! Literally hasn't used the PS5 outside of being a DVD player lol

I can't believe in the span of an hour tomorrow morning, we are getting Academy Awards nominations AND a Nintendo Direct announcement!
Academy Awards noms tomorrow at 8:18a ET, Direct announcement at 9a ET, Direct Wednesday, Batman tickets on sale Thursday, Superbowl on Sunday. Absurdly stacked week.

I'm dreading the Oscar noms though. I feel like, even more than usual, they're throwing their weight behind some truly mediocre-to-bad movies.

EU eShop tweet coincidence?

Also, hi.
BONJOUR YOU QUEBECOIS BASTARD, BIENVENUE AND THE HYPE BEGINS IN EARNEST

A Nintendo Jackbox-like honestly sounds pretty good to me
until Nintendo realizes they need servers

I love the idea too, but I feel they'd take offense to people staring at their phones to control a game instead of looking deeply into each other's eyes in an attempt to make them feel uncomfortable/fearful/filled with lust.

Looks like I have been out of the loop. Why are we expecting a direct this week specifically?
Feels like the right time mostly. The biggest concrete hint towards it though is that NoE just announced an eshop sale pretty similar to the ones that were announced before the last two directs

Yeah this or next week always felt like the right weeks. But I thought maybe there was some heavy rumors as well =)
But the e-shop announcement is a good start :>

Looking forward to the meltdowns tomorrow around 10am EST when a Direct isn't announced. I hope I'm wrong.
It'll be at 9am tomorrow, we're not currently on daylight savings time.

9am EST = 10am EDT = 11pm JST

Which movies in particular?
At least for me, Being the Ricardos, House of Gucci, and Don't Look Up all scare me as potential heavyweights. Don't Look Up is for sure getting nominated for Picture and Original Screenplay - it has a ton of support in the industry and of course its message is widely admired. For me, it was way too smug in its supposed cleverness and about half an hour too long. And I loved The Big Short, but I think McKay really overswung here.

House of Gucci was a tonal and acting nightmare imo that never figured out what kind of movie it should be. Being the Ricardos was fine, but also not something I would personally champion by any stretch, but I think Kidman will win her 2nd Oscar for it.

To focus on these films when, IMO of course, we have Spencer, Pig, The Green Knight, Mass, Zola, No Time to Die for blockbuster representation, C'mon C'mon, The Last Duel, The Mitchells vs. The Machines, The Tragedy of Macbeth, and Passing is really unfortunate.

The ones that I'm okay with or thrilled about (in order) are:

The Power of the Dog
Coda
West Side Story
Dune
Licorice Pizza
Belfast
Tick Tick Boom
King Richard

How are you feeling about the Oscars this year?

Having two very young kids means the only movies I've seen this year are Encanto and the Paw Patrol Movie.

I wouldn't be too upset with either winning best picture, not gonna lie.

I want to see 3 things:

1. MP1 Remaster
2. Advance Wars 1+2
3. Mario Party Superstars DLC

Yea, this year's crop of "Oscar bait" films isn't exciting to me, and I usually enjoy them enough lol.

Licorice Pizza is my favorite american film of 2021 so I'm hoping for it to get a few nominations.

Don't know which is my favorite "foreign" film of 2021 (not that I'm american, but I'm speaking from an Academy Awards pov) the most recent one that I saw which comes to mind is Drive my Car.
Will definitely get nominated for best foreign film imo.
