StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (Read the staff posts before commenting!)

It also takes some self-control to not get baited by it.
Refuting common talking points can still be for the benefit of the reader. Rage bait or not, these are common viewpoints that Nintendo cheaps out on hardware or has a poor history with backwards compatibility.

Between all the dooming I consider this thread to be quite informative. I ended up learning a lot reading thorough good faith posts that responded to poor assumptions.

But I agree with the premise of not getting too worked up about it, we'll find out soon enough what the truth is.

Because Nintendo is notorious for saving money on their components, I believe that the Switch 2 will cut costs by not having a CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, screen, battery, or controllers.
Imagine the battery life with no battery!

wow so this is what we're calling realistic expectations from now on huh?
I mean if you keep up with what's being said here, you'd know it really isn't realistic. Tell us, why do you find the specs of 8gb RAM, 64gb storage, etc likely? Leave out insider knowledge, act like it doesn't exist. I bet your response is going to be something like "Because Nintendo historically releases weak systems compared to competitors."

i know you're being sarcastic but you're not wrong, not to mention if switch taught us a lesson is that studios/companies can learn how to adapt the weak consoles and be able to port impossible games
so really there's nothing to worry about

now that the Direct leaks are proven wrong, it's time to admit that Nate, Necro & every other nintendo leaker (aside from pyoro) who backed up the rumor are now considered not trusty anymore

which by extension everything they said about switch 2 is wrong, we're now back to point zero which is 8gb ram, 64-128gb storage & possibly no BC
"because nintendo" amirite?

  • Always Right
  • Tells that they knew it always better soon after we found out someone is wrong
  • Is mad that Insider tell Rumors, but only when they are wrong or have bad news. Otherwise there is no complains and what everyone only ever does is asking for more Info.
  • Accuses others that they hyped themselves too much

Please donβ€˜t take it personally, Iβ€˜m not targeting any user, just a general observation of posts from different people here or other sites that always seem to happen in situations like these

The existence of the Switch 1 already refutes assumptions about Nintendo hardware. They went with a very competitive mobile SoC. They had 8 times the RAM of the previous gen, comparable storage and RAM capacity to contemporary smartphones. The screen was a 720p IPS display out of the gate, double the PPI and triple the resolution of the 3DS. A 20 nm process like the Shield TV instead of the 28 nm of all desktop Maxwell GPUs.

The dissatisfaction with Switch hardware has resulted in some revisionist history that Nintendo deliberately made an unfit console with poor specs 'for the time', and therefore they'd do it again. What I see instead is that Nintendo carefully engineered a hybrid console with a partner that gave them good software development support and packed a top of the line mobile chip into a sleek tablet. That the Switch has become stretched thin and is outperformed by desktop machines doesn't change this.

Now that it's raining when the forecast called for a partly sunny day, it is time to burn down the National Weather Service.

State of Unreal is March 20th at GDC. I'm expecting some things including Lumen for Mobile to be shown off in near production state. possibly with Fortnite. would be telling of how Epic gets ray tracing to scale across a broader spectrum (and how devs can possibly scale their games to as low as Drake)

Microsoft: *takes "Direct" name from Nintendo and applies it to their own presentations*

Unreal: Hold my Mountain Dew

em, 4 gb is 8 times 512 gb. 360 had 30mb for OS, Switch has a bit less than 1gb.

So I would say 6-7 (if you only count the game reserved ram). Not sure how you get to 16x.

never forget that nintendo tends to use the cheapest parts possible (ram, storage, etc...) and considering how switch 1 had the least expensive parts, why would they start going all out with switch 2? especially since switch 1 sold well regardless of how "weak" it was

That is easily refuted because the cheapest part would be exactly like the NVIDIA Shield with 3gb of ram and 16gb of storage. Why don't you provide spec that a supposedly non cheapskate company could have use to make a hybrid for $300 with good power improvement instead?

PS3 has 256 MB, I wrapped up both consoles in 'last gen' and compared approximate total RAM. The intent is not to be super precise, but to show the sheer gap between generations in contrast to the common refrain that the Switch is equivalent to those consoles.

Edit: I'm wrong about the PS3 RAM, editing. That's what I get for rapid Googling.

Nintendo Switch was the successor to Nintendo 3DS - 4GB vs 128MB, that's 32X. Vs. New Nintendo 3DS' 256MB, it's 16X. Vs. Wii U's 2GB, it's 2X.

When you consider Nintendo Switch uses less memory for the system software as a proportion of its total memory, these become even more extreme; 54X, 32X and 3X respectively.

These are the default configurations, 3DS (but I believe, not New) and Wii U could both change memory layouts to bring it closer to ~40X and 2X respectively.

Nintendo, going from their last home console to their next handheld, doubled the RAM, nothing to sniff at.

PS3 had a spit ram setup, which added to how much it already sucked to program for. But technically it had 512 mb.

The whole direct thing not occurring today just makes it more likely that march will be the reveal month imo

So, what do you guys think are the chances of getting a higher hz display? Kinda like the deck oled with 90 for example.
Zero chances or just slim?
why would Nintendo anounce Switch sucessor in march?way before it may shareholders meeting

all of you can keep believing in these "leakers" as much as you want & keep raising your expectations, we'll see who's gonna be right in the end

Whether amyone believes leakers or not has nothing to do with whatever non sense post you made before dude.

You can't launch a platform with an SoC that even at Switch level clocks would outperform a PS4 easily with 64 GB of storage. It makes 0 sense. Will it be 512GB of UFS 3.1? I dunno, personally I doubt it. But 64GB of emmc? Again? That's unlikely.

It makes no sense to launch a 2024 platform with 8 GB of RAM. Doesn't mean it will be 16 GB, but 12 GB seems logical and in line with volumes used in modern smart phones.

Are the clocks gonna get this thing to 3.5 TFlops docked? I dunno, I would assume no but it feels unlikely it would be clocked lower than the regular switch which already puts the GPU as more capable than a PS4 totally ignoring architectural improvements.

Just basic logic gives us an idea of the performance and specs.

Okay so Nate was wrong when he leaked that the Fire Emblem Engage protagonist would have a mix of blue and red hair before any of the leaks revealed this was the case, or he was also wrong when he knew about Everybody 1-2 Switch before everyone else, or even more recently, when E3 was cancelled in 2023 and Nate said there was a direct coming in June? Of course, though, this one time he may have been wrong on a partner direct, when he was at least certain there was no general direct, absolutely means that he 100% can't be trusted, never mind he has been right 8/9 times out of 10, of course...

2 big reasons: Nate has been teasing March for awhile. And March is just at the end of the fiscal quarter, right before the start of the next fiscal year. Announcing in March allows Nintendo to talk to investors about the system and their plans at the fiscal year's first meeting.

Also:
GDC as well. If the announcement happens beforehand, developers will be able to openly talk about their Switch 2 projects.

I am impressed with NateDrake and Necrolipe for convincingly fabricating Nvidia internal source code and documentation, while also setting up shell Git accounts to make bogus open source commits to give us all unrealistic expectations for future Nintendo hardware.

I say it's 6GB RAM and 32GB Storage again, they'll let us expand with MicroSDs again. No BC and just x2 the power, so a Switch Pro. It's over guys.

In case anyone is wondering, yes, it's a joke, no way Nintendo gives that little to the behemot that is the T239.

You think people just plainly believe these "leakers?"

Nate last year got on his podcast and made informed speculation about the successor coming out at the end of 2024 or even early 2025. It devastated this thread. But did people take that as gospel? Go read the last, what, 1300 pages? You want a synopsis of our conversations last spring, then last summer and then this fall.

I think Nintendo know what happened in all forums likes Famiboards & they sabotage all the leakers information. Nintendo flex it's muscles πŸ’ͺ

It is not a question about right or wrong. I am partially on this site because I think it is interesting to read different speculations based on info that might has some truth in it and to share my own (amateurish) theories here and there.

Of course I am a bit disappointed when something dosenβ€˜t turn out like a rumor suggested but so what? That is part of this game and thatβ€˜s why you shouldnβ€˜t take it too seriously.

If you canβ€˜t understand that most people here actually are able to manage their expectations, I canβ€˜t help you.

You already made this post yesterday.

There's literally a staff post pinned to this thread because of multiple times where the thread descended into groups of users dogpiling and trash-talking insiders and anyone who entertained their rumors, to the point the thread was becoming a toxic mess to keep up with. You really, really don't need to preach to this thread (or this site overall, really) about taking insider stuff with a grain of salt. It's not at all like this place just blindly believes in them, quite the opposite actually.

At least quote yourself. . .
so now that 15th february direct has now been debunked, does that mean Nate & Necro are false which by extension their info on anything switch 2 related is false?

To dogpile: nah, thanks bro. I can make my own decisions without you being condescending.

Y'all should not be letting this person rile you up. They do the same thing every time and people always bite. They're trolling. Just ignore and move on.

A quick look at his post history shows that it's literally nothing but troll posts, Better to just not reply to him.

There must be some kind of memory hole or mind virus re: Nintendo and backwards compatibility because the discussion around it has generated some of the most mindboggling takes even from people who aren't trolls.

I'm getting flashbacks to MVG daring to a video about the technical issues Nintendo faces to do BC whilst also going through options of how to make it work...
