No, that'll be Golden Sun.But we already have that.
Golden Sun looked a Generation over Ruby&Sapphire so nope! No, that'll be Golden Sun.
maybe a hot take:hot take:
Super Mario Bros. 3 is better then World. Not only that but its still one of the best platformers ever even today.
Must have been really mindboggling in '89.
See, I want to call this a hot take, but I've seen so much evangelizing for Tropical Freeze over Era and then here on Fami that it must be as good as people say, right? Not to mention love for DKC2.maybe a hot take:
all 2D Mario's are obviously good, but nowhere near as good as any 3D Mario entry. DKC is easily the better 2D series.
Super Mario Bros 3 > Sunshine and it isn't even close.maybe a hot take:
all 2D Mario's are obviously good, but nowhere near as good as any 3D Mario entry. DKC is easily the better 2D series.
This is a take I can get behind.maybe a hot take:

In my opinion, Tropical Freeze is the closest thing to a “perfect” video game. It’s not my all-time favorite, but I genuinely don’t know what I would change besides simply adding more content. It’s that good.See, I want to call this a hot take, but I've seen so much evangelizing for Tropical Freeze over Era and then here on Fami that it must be as good as people say, right? ...though on second thought, no, I will not accept a world where Sunshine is considered better than Mario 3 or Mario World.
Sunshine>Galaxy thoSee, I want to call this a hot take, but I've seen so much evangelizing for Tropical Freeze over Era and then here on Fami that it must be as good as people say, right? Not to mention love for DKC2.

Okay, I've played finished platformers worse than Sunshine. Let's not get that wild.Any actual finished platformer is better than Sunshine.
See, I understand this perspective, since Galaxy and Sunshine aim for very different things and appeal to two different groups of people, but o still don't agree. For as stilted as Galaxy's movement is at points, I feel like Galaxy accomplishes it's goals better than Sunshine does. That being said, they're closer in quality than most would like to admit.Sunshine>Galaxy tho
I have seen some weird takes today. But this has to be the weirdest one.Sunshine>Galaxy tho
Can’t say I agree with this. There’s nothing wrong with preferring Sunshine’s game direction, controls, etc, but the actual level of quality between the two feels enormous. Galaxy actually has a competent game structure and is a complete game. Sunshine is neither of those things, no matter how strong some of its other elements are. That being said, they're closer in quality than most would like to admit.
A large reason for my take might be just nostalgia, I find that Sunshine has more memorable moments than Galaxy so most of the stuff I remember of the game is superior to GalaxyI have seen some weird takes today. But this has to be the weirdest one.
I respect people liking Sunshines movement, hub, world building and freeform gameplay.
But just speaking from a variety and mission design standpoint alone should show how underdeveloped Sunshine was in comparison to Galaxy.
Sunshine aged much better thanks to the HD collection.
That said, Galaxy is leagues ahead.
See, I find that Sunshine vs Galaxy is an interesting debate because it's a question of "do pure mechanics and play make up for a poor structure" vs "does this incredibly refined structure and presentation make up for simpler and stiffer play?" I think which you prefer can say a lot about how you feel about games. Can’t say I agree with this. And that is why I find Galaxy 2 to be better than both of them
Easy, Bonus levelsIn my opinion, Tropical Freeze is the closest thing to a “perfect” video game. It’s not my all-time favorite, but I genuinely don’t know what I would change besides simply adding more content. It’s that good.
Super Mario World, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Mario Land 2 can go toe to toe with the best 3D Mario games, but I find the 3D series stronger as a whole.
Same with the DKC series in comparison to 2D Mario.
I hold a very similar sentiment. The 3D Mario games overall have an incredible baseline quality. 3 and World, however, are both top 5 Super Mario contenders as well. Two games I can love without any caveats.I think Super Mario World is better than every 3D Mario, but most of the rest of the 3D series is better than the 2D ones barring Sunshine and 64 DS.
Which is funny, because as a kid those three games plus Super Mario Bros. 3 were the only Mario games I had played, so I assumed I liked 2D more than 3D. Then Galaxy 1, 2, 3D World, and Odyssey came out over the next decade and my perspective was flipped. Then I went back and played the games I played as a kid (with the N64 version of 64 instead of the DS one) and realized I just happened to have played the best 2D Marios and the worst 3D ones, but that the 3D ones were actually better on average.
Galaxy 1, when it came out, was quite honestly one of the best video games ever made. Its biggest problem came 3 years later, in the form of Galaxy 2. The creativity and variety in that game make Super Mario Galaxy feel like a tech demo in comparison. The only thing Galaxy 2 truly lacks is the sense of "story" or cohesion that Galaxy 1 had. Galaxy 1's setup, hub, and opening cutscene are wonderful, and its final Bowser fight is amazing. Everything else gets trumped by what goes on in Galaxy 2.See, I find that Sunshine vs Galaxy is an interesting debate because it's a question of "do pure mechanics and play make up for a poor structure" vs "does this incredibly refined structure and presentation make up for simpler and stiffer play?" I think which you prefer can say a lot about how you feel about games.
Galaxy is a phenomenal first play, but the cracks show a bit playing it again. It's still great but not as mindblowing as it was when I was a child playing it for the first time. It's still very creative and its presentation is as amazing as ever, but it's more restrictive and often doesn't pose much of a challenge. It can be less fun to play in the moment to moment movement, which is pretty important for a Mario game, I find. Meanwhile Sunshine has a really strong moment to moment thanks to Mario's movement, but the structure is a heck of a lot worse in numerous ways and it also doesn't take advantage of all of ots mechanics - just look at Yoshi. Of course, this becomes easier to manage on replay, even with the horrid Blue Coin system, but if you don't like it enough the first time, why go back?
And that is why I find Galaxy 2 to be better than both of them, not to mention a contender for top five Super Mario games. Yes, the story isn't as good as the first. Yes, the lonely and mysterious atmosphere isn't there. Doesn't matter when the level design takes better advantage of Mario's movement and provides more engaging challenges, the power ups are much more interesting and better utilized, and the presentation is on par with the first. Galaxy 2 is so, so good.
My 3DS is still getting plenty of mileage for this very reason.Somebody mentioned Super Mario Land 2 and now my craving for GameBoy NSO has returned.
How do you guys buy 20 games a year?
I usually buy 7-8 boxed switch releases a year plus some indie and ps4 games at a low price years after they release
And my backlog is still gigantic
While there are things as a fan of the series that I would add to Retro's DKC, like more animal buddies, Kremlings, tag team, etc., the bonus rooms are objectively the worse part of Retro's games.Easy, Bonus levels
I think their appeal is kind of different. I can speedrun a 2D Mario level getting fun out of the various obstacles without worrying about things like camera angles and what not, just a solid obstacle course with focus on gravity and speed. Meanwhile when playing Sunshine the gameplay is a bit more focused on walking around and investigating stuff and there's an opportunity for "sitting and smelling the flowers".maybe a hot take:
all 2D Mario's are obviously good, but nowhere near as good as any 3D Mario entry. DKC is easily the better 2D series.
But that's not all - we're also adding to our line up the "Limited Time Remasters that Nobody Wanted" direct. You've heard of Partner Directs, now get ready for Low-budget Iterative Sequels Direct
3D Mario has better, more inventive 2D level design than many of the actual 2D games have so I would say they are better overall.maybe a hot take:

If by "the rise of digital games" you mean the immediate availability and reduced prices that come with it, then I agree.potentially unpopular opinion: the rise of digital games has led people to think of games they don't like as "backlog" that they're obligated to finish instead of mid games they tried and can now sell
Yes and no. I have a lot of games digital and physical that I bought but haven't touched yet for various reasons. Like now I'm back to working I play games a lot less, some are RPGs that take 50 plus hours to finish. A lot of games were on sale as well. If I wasn't working I would definitely be blaming through it but work and being too tired afterwards leave very little gaming time. During lockdown I actually got it down to 20 or so games but now I don't even want to count how many I have.potentially unpopular opinion: the rise of digital games has led people to think of games they don't like as "backlog" that they're obligated to finish instead of mid games they tried and can now sell
yes yes and one more: the fact you can't sell shit anymoreIf by "the rise of digital games" you mean the immediate availability and reduced prices that come with it, then I agree.

Emily said that Nintendo still wants Golden Sun to continue. They're probably working on an entry right now.I love Golden Sun, but the series was ever only an ok-ish RPG series. The last game in the series, Dark Dawn, was even less than ok.
It has been a long time since one has been made, I just don't see it happening. I'd love a new game but don't think it'll ever happen.

Edit: I also want to add that when I do have a game in my backlog that I tried bit didn't like or got stuck I actually shelve the game and consider it no longer part of my backlog
yes yes and one more: the fact you can't sell shit anymore
I have 400 digital games on my xbox series x, purchases from the xbox 360 and xbox one. I had the same mind setMy backlog consists of things I bought thinking "that sounds great, surely I'll find the time for it!"
Reader, I did not find the time for any of it.
