I'm kind of split on that. Or rather, I should say it's more of a case by case thing for me; it all goes back to the scope of a project. If a particular vision can be still be executed on base Switch, sure why not. Conversely, if a project's ambitious enough to require Drake to be completed within a reasonable timeframe, so be it. And I see Nintendo continue to develop games in both categories for a while yet. I think that's a common position here.
The idea of a game that really pushes Drake actually sounds exciting.
I'm just saying I'd be far from disappointed if Nintendo's standard for Drake titles was roughly as ambitious as they've been making in 2022, but at 4K/30-60. I even looked at the Scarlet Violet trailer and the only thing that
really bothered me was the lack of voice acting and the flickering everywhere, and that game doesn't hold a candle to what Monolithsoft or the Zelda team are doing.
I've seen people post Doctre81 here in the past but just for reference sake he posted this video recently...
I get his point, but that post he's linking I believe is a bunch of examples where Nikkei reports that something is going to happen (e.g new hardware), Nintendo says it's untrue, and then it ends up happening.
Not the same situation as Nikkei speculating something
won't happen, and Nintendo remaining silent. That's where we are right now.
Edit: Frankly there's no option other than remaining silent here from Nintendo's perspective. I guess the point being made by Doctre is that if the information came from Nintendo directly, it could be a lie, but it all feels a bit too forced. I'm not holding my breath.
The only thing that still doesn't sit that well with me is the English reporting around it. Nikkei clearly positioned the article to be a report on Nintendo's production being down, with a what
seems like an ambiguous footnote about no new hardware coming, and yet the headline literally
everywhere is "no new hardware". Most outlets are reporting on Mochizuki's tweet, which is actually just a question about the source of the information.
