I don’t actually believe this. The app does exist and voice chat is supported for select games. They know that some experiences greatly benefit from it, and in a world where family and friends are all so well connected regardless of the distance, needing to get on a zoom call to play Switch together is archaic.

I choose to believe they’re just waiting until next generation to introduce change.

It's possible that the infrastructure was not yet ready since Nintendo had just transitioned their online store to a more modern and scalable approach.

3DS had a messaging app and it was shut down 2 years later:

The mobile app and simply allowing 3rd party games like Fortnite to implement is Nintendo way to wash their hands. If the parent gives the minor a smartphone or it happens in a 3rd party game, thats on them.

That's not to say they can change their mind or the people in conmand changes, but it was a choice. Just like the web browser being inaccessible to avoid being hacked.

Nintendos current approach for voice chat is total bullshit. And it’s not like they aren’t aware of the limitations - they had an official Splatoon branded monstrosity for using phone and switch audio at the same time.

I’m hoping they’ve wisened up to system level voice chat (even if it’s friends only) or discord, and just opted to not pivot for the current generation. It would absolutely be a selling point for me on a new system. It’s just so effortless to jump into a channel with my close friends halfway across the world on Xbox (or cross platform via Discord).

I thought it was pretty obvious but Nintendo have to be 10 times more cautious about these things than Sony or Microsoft because of their family friendly image. All it would take is one kid receiving a dodgy message or a comment via their headset and they’d be met with headline news stories about how their system was used to groom a child. An exchange of friend codes leading to communications could be done online also and potentially make them liable so ‘friends only’ wouldn’t completely cut it. If they can keep most communication off system then that’s safer for them. To be honest, I’ve found it easy enough just setting up a multi person call on my phone when playing with friends.

I played a decent amount of Dark Souls switch version, if I decide to get summoned in anor londo, there is no way to ask/answer if the summorer wants smough killed first or ornstein killed first, which can be relevant for trying to unlock certain weapons.

Well, back when i played the game on PS3, i didn't have voice chat for it either ... it kinda became common to let the host attack the one they wanted to beat first, and then go all out on that one.

I kinda want ReDraketed to keep such stuff like voice chat out of the OS, like with Switch right now. It keeps the OS small and fast, and i'm with Raccoon here, it's not like theres no alternatives.
And let's be honest, those alternatives are and will always be better than what Nintendo would offer.

I think it's more likely to be Zelda, maybe with Link and Ganondorf as dual protagonists, using the new system to allow you to swap between them in the open world no matter how far apart they are, but that's spitballing.

I have found plenty of players I like on Switch I just can't contact. I think turning off comms for child accounts and making it opt-in would be wise, but I want A way to send them a message that isn't a contrivance like inviting them to a game with text chat and sending it there. Animal Crossing has friend to friend texting and mail, Splatoon 2+3 have broadcasting to the entire playerbase. If they feel they can moderate that, then they can absolutely moderate out of game text chat exclusively between non-child accounts.

Speed and power on NVME are not related in that way. The problem with M.2 as an expandable storage option is size.

The problem for Nintendo is their family friendly image and the fact EXPLICIT, VARIOUS CRIMES of the sort have happened over Nintendo's services in the past. They've been seriously burnt on player communication across SwapNote and Miiverse being as cursed and at times criminal as they were.

Yes I remember those things happening to Nintendo and how it influenced them going forward. Thing is I’ve never heard of similar things happening to Microsoft and Sony. I’m assuming it must’ve happened to them at some point but I don’t recall ever hearing such things.

I remember hearing about it in less precise terms on 360, but Nintendo's beent the target more often because of their image, marketing to children, and their services allowing images, including those taken with the system itself. This is another reason I doubt next gen will have a full colour camera anywhere on it.

Overall the launch lineup will be interesting as we've already had so many recent outings in big first party series this and last year. (But that's a topic for the other thread I suppose!)

Looks like Pokémon SV DLC leak 2.0, where someone is taking real information leaked from an imminent presentation (the name MH Wilds was most likely floating around since this was posted right before TGA), and tacking on fake Switch 2 nfo.

I'm pretty sure during the Pro controller's designing, it had an audio jack for a headset, but as you said, chose not to have it in the end.

Nintendo could do what Sony did for the PS4 (not sure if they continued it for PS5), which is include a headphone Jack that can also double as a microphone slot. So those two in one headphones with a microphone are literally just plug n play. There were a handful of times in the past when I was playing a game on PS4, but had to use headphones to keep noise level down, and that solution worked brilliantly. Best part is you can really get immersed into the game since there are no distractions.

Considering the Jaguar Cores were rather dogshit slow that the cores in the Tegra X1 were I think even faster albeit slightly, this would not surprise me if the A78C cores are a lot faster. In fact, I wouldn’t even consider that big news. That's called technological progress in CPUs. I think I’m correct in saying even the AMD FX line of CPUs, despite their faults, were still faster than the Jaguar Cores; power consumption be damned.
