just because FF7R isn't happening right now on NG, doesn't mean it's not happening at all.

Square as a whole can be quite slow with them deciding what to port on Switch, like they decided to bring Nier there back in 2019 because they were impressed with how Astral Chain ran & looked there (in case you don't know the relation, both are PG games & made in the same engine)

so again while 7R may not happening rn, that does not mean it won't happen, it could happen one day though
If I’m SE I would try getting it on there sooner than later. They have a host of issues they need addressing but the longer they wait the harder it will be to fix them.

It doesn't bode well though with the expectation that Nintendo will get more AAA stuff from Japanese third party studios on the Switch 2, but it seems it will mostly continue to be the low budget stuff while everything else goes to Playstation, Xbox and PC only. I hope i'm wrong but i'm fairly certain that western studios will be much more supportive of the Switch 2 than the likes of Square Enix and Capcom. I mean Ubisoft plans a day and date release of Far Cry 7 for the Switch 2 already, while Square Enix doesn't see any worth of porting over an old PS4 game to the Switch 2? And Capcom may not even release a new Monster hunter for the Switch 2 as well. Japanese third parties are continuing their old strategy in regards to Nintendo systems it seems. Sitting on Switch 2 dev kits they have no use for as of now due to their reluctance to jump on board and start porting to Switch 2.

Nier 3, KH4, FF7R1+I+2, DQ12, FF16, and FF14 are like all of the big budget games Square is going to be releasing/have released between 2020 and 2027 (not counting Forspoken or the Eidos bombs that have no chance of being ported by Square)

So we're basically speculating on six total games.

This seems extremely melodramatic

I think the only big game Square Enix will make an effort to port over to Switch 2 is Dragon Quest 12 due to Switch popularity in Japan and DQ mostly being popular in Japan. When it comes to Final Fantasy though they don't seem to have any interest in that line of thinking.

And a bigger problem is that if they take too long the market will respond to any super late port with a ho-hum because all the buzz is dead. And of course the longer they don't do a port the more likely they like to write of doing a port as unprofitable, as the number of copies sold won't cover the costs of porting, when the resources would be better spent on new games.

Can you see any logical reason why Ubisoft is planning day and date releases of brand new games such as Far cry 7 to the Switch 2 while Japanese third party developers can't even be bothered to work on ports of old PS4 games to the Switch 2?

Why are we taking Necro and Nate this seriously as to treat these as guarantees, lol.

Necro knowing about the platform choices of Ubisoft Toronto 24 months ahead of time seems weird.

They always do it.
Assassins Creed Black Flag was same day for example

Because it would sell poorly, MH is like sports games or COD, when a new one comes out everyone migrates to the new one.
I mean Monster Hunter has a history of ports which don’t sell like a main entry but can still sell very well. They could throw in an additional Monster and it’s a fairly decent sell at launch. Really depends on where MH6 is development wise.

or they could be making something else for Drake, like Dragon Quest, which has a couple of console exclusives for Switch already
maybe Dragon Quest 12 will come to Switch sucessor, just like Dragon Quest 11 was for Switch, i feeling the Dragon Quest 3 remake could be a cross-gen game or be a timed exclusive for Switch or it sucessor.

Considering how some of their new games have been performing, a super late port would probably be better.

As I said, the amount of Shader Cores are 6x. And T239 will (probably) clock higher than Tegra X1 and won't be as bandwidth constrained as TX1 was. While, of course, there are others structures that might not scale as much, a 6x performance jump should be very straightforward to achieve.

If we look at the BoTW 4K60 Gamescom demo, for example. It's taking a 900p30 game and upping it to 1080p60* (A nearly ~2x jump in pixels pushed per frame) and then upsampling it to 4K thanks to DLSS. That's a small jump, but it showcases how much more powerful the hardware is to push a Switch game to 4K60 with no sweat.

* I assume it's taking the OG BoTW Resolution/FPS targets of 900p30 and rendering at 1080p60. It could be that the demo is rendering at 1440p60 or another value and then upsampling to 4K60. If it's rendering at 1440p60, it would be a a ~5x jump in pixel per frame compared to OG Switch.
I’d be delighted with a 5x jump over Switch especially as generations are no longer the 10x jump they used to be for Sony or Microsoft.

The next Mario, Zelda, Splatoon and Mario Kart are going to look CG like to the average person.

After the past few couple of underperforming quarters (years?) I don't believe that business model is sustainable. Unless the plan is to bleed money and talent.
Yeah now Square Enix seems to be aiming more towards day and date releases on Playstation, Xbox and PC in the future, like Capcom. Their recent deal with Xbox seems to point towards that being the way forwards for them. With Nintendo expect only low budget titles, Nate really nipped any notion of Switch 2 having increased support from them in the bud with his recent comments.

The good part is that western studios will up their support, Ubisoft is planning a Far cry 7 day and date release on the Switch 2, if the western studios port over their games to the Switch 2 let the Japanese studios continue to sulk in the corner with their fruitless anti-Nintendo efforts.

with his recent comments?

Nate only said there are no plans for 7R to come to NG at the moment, that doesn't mean it won't happen

as for the late port part, i think they can still make a late port some few years after Rebirth's release & before 7R3's release to ride on the remake trilogy hype train

starting to think your trolling at this point, I don't see how the switch 2 not getting a game sony payed to keep off other platforms day 1 means anything for future support from Square or other Japanese developers

I feel like you're rushing a little to conclusions based on a single game not currently in the works for Switch 2. FF7 Remake hasn't been ported to anything since 2021, not even Xbox. It's possible Square just isn't focusing on that specific title.

And a lot of Japanese devs are very pro Nintendo. We just heard yesterday that MH6 is planned for Switch 2. I have no doubt Capcom will provide lots of support. Similarly I feel like Square will provide a lot of support as well. (Need to say, I feel like Square supported Switch 1 really well too, so I'm a bit confused where you feel they are anti-Nintendo. Only the big budget FF games have been missing, but those can be a combination of specs plus exclusivity deals)

bro you need some syrup for this waffling you're doing.

Stop assuming shit.

My gut tells me DQXII is pretty much a guarantee for the successor.

It's in 2025
Ah okay, I somehow glossed over that part.

Re: the other person I was replying to, I’m still not sure why it would be highly unusual for an hypothetical insider with sources to know about Ubisoft plans to release on the Switch successor. Especially since the game is now known to be in development.

This video is incredible because it takes so many bad rumors together to create a new bad rumor.

Capcom is not releasing Monster Hunter in March. The Bloomberg reporter misheard a Capcom rep and thought they said "we're going to release a game that will sell millions in March" and then reported it without ever double checking.

Fun fact, Capcom expects to sell almost no Japanese software from September 2023 to March 2024 according to their financial reports.

Monster Hunter is extremely popular in Japan.
If you actually watched the video I talk about why I am skeptical of the March timing for both Switch 2 and Monster Hunter. I think its a good fit for a bit later though.

Except the one “for portable platforms” released on all platforms and sold a bunch of copies?
well it was made primarly for the switch in terms of gameplay loop and design choice, i dont see the problem on being ported to other platforms since it was possible anyway, the leak show capcom initially only has in mind porting it to pc and thats why ps and xbox versions release so late in to the game cycle so i dont see your point here.

that a portable game was ported to the home console to gain more make sense specially because they already work in the pc version of the game so they have much of the work done.

Okay, but you do say "Capcom is planning to release a game that will sell millions in March" and that's just almost certainly false reporting due to a Bloomberg reporter mishearing/misreading something.

So how do you know that he misheard something? Here is the original tweet, obviously even if he is right there is room for interpretation.
Edit: Also you are putting false words in my mouth. Don't quote something I did not say. I say "we've heard", its treated as a rumor.

I reached out to Takashi last week about the whole March million seller comment. Seems like he is confident in his hearing.

Also, I don't get why we all assuming it's MH6 the March title. It could easily be another Resident Evil title like a Remake of 1 or a new spin-off that started production in late 2020/Early 2021.

I think you’re taking Nate and Necro’s comments a little too seriously mate. Nate only said that there are no plans for now, doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen in the future and who knows what Square Enix are developing for the switch 2, DQ12, FF9R, and maybe a brand new Nier game could be coming to switch 2 but I don’t think you should be jumping the gun like this. They literally have an exclusive DQ game coming out on the switch so I don’t see why Square Enix wouldn’t increase their support for the switch 2.
