Are the songs you listen more happy, or sad, or can we get used to them?
Hoping for happy!

Switch Lite at $200 USD
Switch OLED at $300 USD
Switch 2 at $400 USD

sounds about right

Even then, I only see a scenario where the Switch OLED says in production if and only if one of two things are true: 1) Switch 2 also has an OLED screen from the start, whether the same 7” 720p panel as before, or a 1080p 7-8” screen. Or 2) Switch 2 still uses an LCD display, but is miniLED with VRR.

Was trying to remember, are there any reasonable displays in that 7-8” size at 720-1080p that would be viable in comparison to what the Switch OLED already uses?

Part of me thinks Nintendo will just reuse the same OLED screen for the Switch 2, while another wonders if they would instead opt for a higher resolution.

Truth be told, I feel more likely Nintendo would stick with 720p in handheld.

I don't see them revealing it at TGA under any circumstances. Above all else Nintendo always wants complete control over their messaging, giving the reveal to Geoff would not allow for that.

When Bayo 3 was announced, Reggie was there to announce it with Geoff, so I could see a similar scenario with someone else with Nintendo coming out to reveal say Prime 4 as a launch title ala BOTW, and cross gen.

I could be wrong, but IMO a Prime 4 reveal during TGA would probably be up there with E3 2004, or the closest thing we’d get to a post-E3 reveal.

Prime 4 I could absolutely see. New hardware? Not a chance in hell.

They will not want to reveal their new console during TGA only for it to be followed by "and here's a trailer for Marvel's Wolverine" or "and the award for best use of raytracing goes to...."

Like, c'mon. That is not how they would ever unveil a new console. We all know better than that.

Question to those who know a lot about relevant hardware, is it possible the Switch 2 could be 99% or 100% bezel-less like modern smart phones? Is there anything stopping that from happening?
There isn't anything that is stopping this from happening. It's just cost and complexity.

Imagine Nintendo giving Geoff the reveal for the Switch 2 and as he’s about to do it, some guy runs up on stage and tells us how how his priest friend rabbi Bill Clinton loves sex.

Like just think about it. Now that you’ve thought about it…yeah Nintendo will never let Geoff reveal any hardware.

H1 doesn't have to mean March and H2 doesn't have to mean November. If it ends up being H1, I would bet on a May release and if its H2, I am betting on a September release. Unless Nintendo is going to have a stock pile of 10 million units for launch, it just doesn't make sense to release during the holiday season where they will not have any chance of supply meeting demand. Releasing well in advance of the holidays ensures months and months of demand. Keep in mind Wii U sold more in its first two months than Wii did, but then crashed and burned hard the following quarter. If SNG were to get off to a slower than expected start after releasing in May or even September, Nintendo would at least have the holidays right around the corner to get things back on track.

If we trust the "funcles" we already HAVE. Production doesn't mean finished units and they're likely kept somewhere where photography is difficult or impossible. So all we can really expect until the official announcement, IMO, is vague descriptions, or at most a rough drawing.
If it's at the point where every major dev interested in a Switch 2 dev kit has one when earlier this year it didn't seem to be the case, then I think it's more likely that May was mass production of Dev Kits specifically.

Predicting Nintendo’s next moves are like predicting where lightning will strike. But how can I be so careless. 1.21 Gigawatts. Tom! How am I going to generate that kind of power? It can’t be done! It can’t!

Unfortunately you never know when or where it’s ever going to strike…

A Mario Direct tomorrow, a General Direct two weeks from today, and new hardware speculation buzzing...DAMN it's a good time to be a Nintendo fan

Predicting Nintendo’s next move isn’t that difficult nor is it like predicting where lightning will strike. Nintendo has a very clear pattern of behaviour with Geoff led events: either they give the bare minimum (specifically specific hardcore franchises or they don’t). The only way people find it difficult is if they believed that Nintendo was gonna do a blowout at Gamescom or TGS.

Assuming the rumours about Nintendo using a LCD display to reduce costs are accurate, Nintendo probably won't use mini LED. TrendForce noticed that Apple has been slowing down the adoption of mini LED for Macbooks and iPads due to the high costs of using mini LED vs OLED.

This genuinely means nothing or anything, but I find it curious Nintendo has sent me an e-mail with a survey, asking about the following things:
  1. Which (Nintendo) consoles I've owned so far and when the last time was that I played on them.
  2. Which Switch models I currently own
    1. If I knew what the different Switch models were (Lite = handeld, OG = On the go and TV, OLED = better screen etc.)
  3. Why I bought the OLED model over another model (for me it was because of Zelda, but the following options were available)
    1. Best screen
    2. Not interested in de "better portability" of Switch Lite.
    3. The "most premium" model
    4. The newest model
    5. Detachable joy-cons (other than the Switch Lite)
    6. Useable on TV
    7. Best design or color options
  4. Which features I like the best of the Switch OLED (pertaining to the better and bigger screen, kickstand design, better speakers, etc. you know what an OLED is at this point)
    1. One of the options I could check was "Compatibility with all Nintendo Switch games"
I'm not going to list all of them as that would be a very lengthy and meaty post to untangle and post clearly, but I usually get game specific surveys. So it's curious that they send me a survey and ask about features, how I heard about those features and such, and what features I liked the most

Seems like they need some info!

Imagine we could've had a holiday 2023 launch.

I like shiny new tech in the winter months where i have enough reasons not to leave the house.
Considering we can't fully rule out a Spring 2024 launch, it does mean we get to avoid the scorching summer heat, so I'll take what i can get.

This is a reasonably big "pics or it didn't happen" moment, but assuming it's real... yeah that is a bit funny isn't it.
They're probably asking for marketing reasons. The design for the Sw2 is almost certainly complete, so why would they ask about specific details now?

They're probably working on a set of trailers for the Switch 2 if I had to take a guess here.

I mean, my post was meant to be more tongue in cheek, but I’ll accept that response as well…

Not that I’m saying you should have done anything different here, but I think it’d benefit the Nintendo Speculation community if we had some kind of community-run repository for Nintendo’s surveys. Like anytime they send out surveys to people’s emails, we copy or screenshot every question and potential answer so we can maybe use it to reverse-figure out what they’re trying to figure out from us.

I should've taken screenshots of the survey but I still have the email I can show you!

In which case, going up to 8”, and potentially 1080p would not exactly feel that much of a step back in the scheme of things.

And LCDs have gotten better over time since 2017, so if it’s say comparable to what the ROG Ally has, could be nice quality screen.

These sorts of surveys are usually sent out pretty close to the start of marketing. So that's neat!

It's probably not anything to do with design, and more to do with what marketing will focus on. If a huge amount of replies say "compatibility", then backwards compatibility will likely be more prominent in advertising for NG Switch, etc.

basically the OLED with more ergonomic joy-cons tbh
This is what I expect/picture as well.
Though for me that might come from expecting an iterative upgrade for years, sorta goofing with my ability to picture Nintendo doing anything drastically different with the next hardware.

they're still paying off the last time someone asked about Mother 3

reggie-fils-aime-fire-flower.gif
I was gonna say, if they wanna avoid having the randos jump on stage and ruin the announcement, just have Reggie do the reveal. They'll try to run up and Reggie will just look at them and either they'll change their minds real quick or Reggie will get to beat some people up live on camera. Either way it's a win for Nintendo.

This unit is, at launch, going to appeal to the video game enthusiast market. The Game Awards has millions of game enthusiast viewers every year, with the number growing year after year. Sure they haven’t done much with Keighley in recent years but it’s a venue to announce their new hardware that has, guaranteed, millions of eyeballs
Nintendo hate to share attention with others companies/games, they rater perfer to do a Nintendo Direct focused on the console, they reveal it at TGA, where a lot of anouncement can dilute it reveal, plus the media could twist what Nintendo has shown to get engagement/clicks

If there's one truth about this thread, it's that at any given moment the majority is hoping for a release as soon as possible. Right now it's H1 and sure enough the thread is in a frenzy over it all of a sudden. We will be right one day, but for now I'll just say that nothing said today has convinced me that anything changed, so I'll stay in the H2 2024 camp which has seemed the most logical for years now and is being propped up by reliable reports and people.

What I have is not something I will share until I know the risk has diminished and that will take time.

Anything out of Gamescom in the immediate is irresponsible & incomplete.
Yes Nate, I've seen this: https://reddit.com/r/nintendo/s/rHFNzqdXzL

The first thing I did was going to here to confirm what was true. Thank you for sharing what the real story is.

It really frustrate me when people misuse other info for clickbate.

So what is everyone's bet on reveal? late 2023 or early 2024?
I'm a Q1 2024 hope-er, but Q4 2024 is far more likely.

I'm also inclined to believe that a Q2-3 release is possible this time around, but I understand why people doubt it would happen. Idk, we'll see.

I find it CRAZY that anyone would think Nintendo would reveal info on their Next Gen console on anything other than their own platform. Nintendo is all about control, and the want to be able to control how the messaging gets across and is delivered to their audience. I suspect similar reveal to Nintendo Switch. An Announcement on Twitter saying to stay tuned for a Nintendo Presentation. A Trailer released showing the console and a bit of what makes it unique. Then a followup presentation social media blowout that showcases a bunch of games and offers details on the console and release dates.
