@xghost777 , I will accept the challenge! The Direct will arrive on September 13th at 2:00 PM (PST) and will be announced on September 12th at 7:00 AM (PST)

So I searched "vanpool shutting down" and got this

The news comes from a notice posted on the developer's website, which states that the company is dissolved as of May 31. It gives no reason for the studio's closure, nor any specific details.

The last part is so ominous I wonder wtf happened
What happened was Kirby and the Forgotten Land was so good they just went "welp, not topping that" and quit existing

Just give me WWHD and TPHD as a shadow drop so I can be satisfied with this generation.

A new 2D Zelda game would also be good.

I only finished TotK yesterday, and I’m not convinced we’ll be getting DLC.

Torna? So it could get its own physical release? That sounds like the way to go.
That's the ideal way to go imo!!
What bugs me tho is how they'd make only the content of the DLC playable... Maybe make it pass on an island? I was thinking of a new Sky Island but being forbidden to go to the grounds would sound weird. Unless it's some of a new mechanic that doesn't allow for fly/glider.
Anyways I think playable Zelda/a Zelda campaign is the way to go. Have it out holiday 2024.
Could we perhaps see Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Second Encore? Third time's a charm!
If the world has any justice and hope left on it, we'll get that!!!
Also tbh I don't think we have enough information to presume the Switch version didn't meet Nintendo's expectations?
You reminded me I should go back to play it!
Well, after how big FE and Persona turned, with SMT growing a lot as well with V, I think it's a matter of time until we see a new TMS that's more fan service and features more characters from those franchises while staying its own thing.

I'd be willing to bet Luigi's Mansion GCN shadow drops sometime in the next year at a Direct
If Luigi's Mansion doesn't shadowdrop this Direct, I still fully expect it to release prior to Dark Moon.

If Dark Moon is expected to release prior to the first direct of 2024, then Luigi's Mansion is the shadowdrop for this September (and also their default halloween spoopy game)

What da?!

Now that Yggdra Union is on the Switch I feel it's only a matter of time until we see Knights in the Nightmare and Riviera in the west. So now I'm just hoping we'll see some more Vanillaware titles ported to the system, Odin Sphere Leifthrasir and Muramasa Rebirth were perfect on the Vita and would be just as great on the Switch.

I know I shouldn't since I'm playing so much already but I'm tempted to pick up Pokemon S/V. I had intention to play it eventually but with the DLC hitting the news, I kind of want to dive into it now...on top of a list of other games I'm already diving into at the moment.

Edit: Shit. Forgot I wasn't in the general discussion thread. Oh well, I'm leaving it in for the content.

There should be an Indie World this week since they typically do them just before gamescom, right?
Or was it before PAX, meaning they still have the next couple of weeks?

Muramasa is what I want the most.
I have ot and Odin Sphere on Vita, but we never got a physical release for Muramas in Europe and then it also got all that DLC.
I loved 13 Sentinels and the art in Vanillaware games, I'm not sure if I could get into their other games like Dragons Crown though.

Another small studio Nintendo should have bought :/

Dragon's Crown is great if you're playing with a group of friends, but I prefer Vanillaware's single-player titles more. If you haven't gotten it yet I would also recommend picking up GrimGrimoire OnceMore.

I think Wind Waker comes next year and Twilight Princess in early 2025 so they have Zelda releases around Switch 2 launch period

Hmmmm, Luigi’s Mansion for October, Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon in April 2024and a retail double pack release in May 2024?

I don’t know how I missed the start of this thread, but I’m glad to be back. I’m especially excited because this Direct could potentially have updates on multiple games that I’m looking forward to, which hasn’t happened often in the last few years.

Our first weekly discussion question is officially up now!

Week 1 – From the two Directs this year, which game or games would you most like to see an update on at the next Direct?

I'll be posting a new question every week around this time, midnight from Wednesday into Thursday. I have six questions prepared, because TGS starts in six weeks now! Hopefully we'll be seeing our next Nintendo Direct by then :)

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is easily the game I’m most looking forward to seeing. I was absolutely blown away by the reveal, and that was only a small glimpse of what the game will offer.

A close second is Splatoon 3 Side Order, assuming that doesn’t come out before, but I’ve convinced myself it comes out at the start of the next season, and as such we should get an update within the next few days, and as such I will be immensely disappointed when that inevitably doesn’t come to pass

Mostly Mario Wonder. I'm gonna give a boring answer and say I'm not super duper excited for anything upcoming though. That's not because of a lack of enthusiasm for the Switch, but rather because Scarlet/Violet -> Fire Emblem Engage -> Tears of the Kingdom was like three of the most important Nintendo games of the next five years or so for my personal tastes, so what comes next is inevitably going to be less hype to me.

I am excited to see what unique and crazy stuff they do with Wonder though.

With announcements coming from Gamescom, TGS, and the Game Awards, it might be beneficial for Nintendo to reveal the Switch successor sooner rather than later. Even with a rumored late 2024 release, keeping the console under wraps seems like a burden for third party developers announcing upcoming titles. Although there's no evidence to back it up, some games at the recent THQ Nordic showcase could easily land on new Nintendo hardware, and it could be a great platform for ambitious ports like MK1 and Hogwarts Legacy.

It’s a burden they can all handle. This isn’t anyone’s first rodeo to being quiet before a company announces their new system.

They aren't announcing a new system right before a holiday season. Switch 2 will be revealed in 2024.

Hi there, just so you’re aware, here’s a link to our forum policy on HL following community discussion- essentially we aren’t interested in hosting discussion on it in any form, including around ports, sales and reviews etc.

You can't even say the name of a game (in a way that isn't even inviting discussion of it) without being warned? That's weird.

I'd have much rather we got that over Soul Hackers 2. The first game is much better than I expected it to be and I was one of those initially disappointed when it got revealed after getting excited over the crossover with Fire Emblem.

That’s not what the policy says at all, which is why the post I replied to was linked to the policy and not given any feedback. Not all mod actions that help curate discussion are feedback and bans, sometimes we gently remind people about stuff too.

I could understand if the game being brought up derailed discussion, but the post was replied to multiple times with no mention of it, so replying with the guidelines to not discuss a game that wasn't being discussed only serves to derail any future discussion the post could bring, not curate it.

It was a reply to make sure that a member that joined a couple of months ago was aware of guidelines that are now six months old and haven’t been on the front page since before they joined. At this point the main thing derailing discussion is continuing this commentary about it, so please feel free to take it to mod feedback. Thanks.

Definitely Mario Wonder, Untitled Peach Game, and Layton 8

Also I'm sure I'm going to regret this but...

@xghost777 I will accept the challenge! The Direct will arrive on September 14th at 7:00 AM and will be announced on September 13th at 6:00 AM.

Okay, so if you all have looked at the Donkey Kong forum on Famiboards, you may know that I made some predictions onto what the September Direct will have concerning the future of DK. If you haven't seen it yet, well here's the basic gist (with some updated information:

I do think that we are going to get a September Direct on the 13th. This Direct I believe will be the DK fandom's time as there will be a bunch of announcements, like:

1.) Diddy Kong and Pauline in Mario Kart's Booster Course Pass with a new DK course, which will probably be DK Mountain. I feel that it will be those two characters specifically because Diddy is pretty much a given and also represents the modern-era of DK, while Pauline could represent the arcade-era.

2.) NSO games like the DKL trilogy, DK 64, King of Swing, Diddy Kong Racing, etc will be revealed to be coming in the coming months with one of them coming out in a week after the Direct.

3.) Donkey Kong Country Returns Switch will be shadow-dropped digitally with a physical version a few months later. I feel like this is a safe choice since it seems like Nintendo recently likes to remaster GameCube and Wii-era games for about $40-50 a pop. It will be similar to the Pikmin remasters in where the graphics will be upscaled, but not remade from the ground-up. However in return, the game will get traditional controls, 60 fps, and the 3DS-exclusive levels with nothing else added. It would also be financially a smart-move for Nintendo as they can allow old and new fans to prepare for not only the Returns-styled, Universal theme park that's coming out in 2024, but also for the the biggest announcement...

4.) DK EPD gets announced and it gets dated for the first half of 2024. I'll just throw in March as for when I think it will be specifically released.

Why do I feel like Nintendo could do all of this at once, you may ask? I feel that it will happen because Nintendo just did something similar in their June Direct where they announced a bunch of Mario games & DLC, including revealing three games in a row that features Mario, Peach, and Luigi. They likely did this to captailize on the Mario Movie's success and popularity among the crowd since those three characters were featured in the film. Since DK also played a huge part in the movie (maybe more than Luigi even), it would not make sense to leave him out of the synergy promotion that Nintendo is seemingly doing. Lastly, I do feel like in terms of the three Mario games that Nintendo wants to focus their marketing and attention on from the most to least amount, it would go like this:

Super Mario Bros Wonder > Princess Peach game > Luigi's Mansion 2 Switch Remake

If DK EPD comes out around the same time as those three games, it will very likely be slotted inbetween the Peach game and Luigi's Mansion 2 Remake.

Anyways, hoped that you can agree or at least understand my thinking about this. If you have any reasonable ideas that you want to share with me, do so if you want as I will be glad to read through them and respond when appropriate.
