StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (Read the staff posts before commenting!)

That, with some new islands as well and I'd combust with excitement.
Yeah. Tho I doubt they’ll add anything to it. If they give it the $59.99 price tag, it should have SOMETHING added. If not, they should sell it for $49.99

Or bundle it with TP HD and sell it for $59.99

This Switch-era Nintendo, traditional marketing makes too much sense for them apparently.

I'd say they're being strange just this year. Pretty sure the years before they had at least one announcement for after summer of that year in their Feb/March Directs.

They've had bizarre marketing strategies/reveal pacing since their Direct schedule started petering off in 2015. But it's gotten noticably worse during the Switch era, especially from 2019 onward.

'round these parts we believe in 1 (maybe 2) Directs a year now, no Summer events, dripfeed marketing campaigns, tiny release windows, and shadowdrops. 🤠

If empty H2 doesn't mean a new console, maybe they'll want to wait until June before spilling the beans on new games. Maybe they want everyone's full attention on TotK.

Actually doesn't make sense either, but there has to be a reason.

Hmm, looking like a launch for FY23 might be off the menu. Hopefully we'll get some reveal information in the form of official news or leak by the end of the FY though. They seem intent on pulling a Wii and on riding the Switch till its steam has ran out before transitioning hardware if they're targeting Holiday '24.

The thing about an empryty second half, why in the world you would drop Prime 1 in a random spot as if he needed to drop out as soon as possible if you have a emptu 2half?
I definitely think we’ll get a Direct in June. There’s no software for June. They’ll do it during the first week of June, and unveil their June software and lineup for the upcoming months.

Latest from Nikkei Asia:
To offset the Switch's decline and get back on the growth track, many are calling on the company to introduce a new console. One is rumored to be due out next year. "Development seems to be progressing well," a source close to Nintendo told Nikkei Asia. "But a product launch won't happen before next spring at the earliest."
The fact that investors and analysts are calling for a successor could get gears turning and we’ll maybe get Some more leaks

—————

Random thought: maybe they have intel that PS5 Pro/Slim/TV Extender is/are releasing this Holiday

Nikkei Japan:
Market expectations naturally shifted to the "next switch". When asked about the successor to the Switch, President Furukawa said, "There is nothing I can tell you at this time.". He also declined to say when he would introduce the new device, but many in the stock market believe it will be after the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025.

Not going to lie, if they are planning to coast off of DLC, evergreens, and some small titles without any aggressive pricing cuts, then my confidence in Nintendo is going to weaken significantly. They need to prove that they can have a smooth transition into a strong launch, but the weird silence and potential launch being late next year does not inspire confidence. We'll see though.

Nintendo's next Switch will be outdated by the time it comes out (assuming it is Drake). Graphics and CPU tech that came out in 2020 releasing in late 2024 / early 2025. Nice job, Nintendo.

At this rate the Steam Deck 2 should be out before Nintendo's next system.
That hardly matters because the Tegra chip is so old and outdated that Drake( if it is whats coming as a SoC) will still be massive massive improvement over the 2015 Terga IP.

The Steam Deck 1 or 2 won't even get the same level of game optimisation as a potential Switch 2 will, games for Switch 2 will be made first or third party wise from the ground up. Optimisation is key and often times why the PS5 is better than the XSX.

I absolutely hate that I had legitimate reasons to like this.

Good old Nikkei with that clearing-up.

You're not missing anything, but caught another instance of VGC untruthful reporting (using the term loosely). I wrote about their shoddy translations, exaggerated characterizations, and downright misinformation many times. Sadly, the MO has been working out very well for them—too well actually, as their articles are often taken as fact and widely redistributed.

Just recently they claimed that the Japanese script of the Super Mario Bros. Movie was "unique" and "independently" developed. That is categorically untrue. Miyamoto only said that some jokes were localized so that the humor wouldn't get lost in translation. But since VGC said so, other writers and streamers simply regurgitated it in the west.

And who could forget that they fell for the WaddleDeeKnows hoax? Good times.
Honestly, VGC ought to be a banned site at this point. They have form and history for anti-Nintendo clickbait grifting. In addition to your examples, they put out that article from MVG regarding backwards compatibility, with the intention of planting seeds of doubt in the minds of fellow Nintendo fans. Twitter discourse regarding the Switch's successor is all the more insufferable for it, and a lot of people online love to spread it as gospel, when it's irreconcilable with what Nintendo has confirmed. It's lamentable that in this so-called "Age Of Information", there are too many who choose to be bad faith operators. They care about $$$ through clickbait, rather than integrity towards their readerships and the pursuit of the truth. They'll entertain "bothsidesism" and gaslight their audiences under the veil of "plausible deniability" for further engagement, and who people believe depends on whether their personal beliefs align, rather than whether the content has been properly verified, with receipts.

The lack of info we have is disconcerting for sure. There is nothing I want more than for this stupid ass company to be successful, I'm gonna assume the best xd.

Is there a mistake or am I reading an assumption that Nintendo would only reveal a next generation system after March 31, 2025?

Pretty much what I expected. Based off of that forecast (which they haven't a chance in hell of reaching) and the comments 2023 is off the table. The earliest we are looking at is spring 2024 and even though I think it would be a mistake holiday 2024 seems likely.

VGC is reporting that Nintendo says no new hardware is coming in the next 12 months.

But their own article only says:

The only mention of no new hardware is from analysts. Is there another quote I’m missing?

I'm curious about the context of the "no new or upgraded hardware is factored into Nintendo’s annual forecast" quote (which is included in Yahoo Finance's reprinting of the Bloomberg article). Did he just say this unprompted, or was it in response to a specific question on the forecasts? If he was just asked a generic question about new hardware, it's a weirdly specific way to answer it. It'll be interesting to see the Q&A transcripts.

Also, I haven't seen any references to "uncharted territory" yet. Have Nintendo entered charted territory?

Just about everything points to that, whether it's a full-length one or a mini. If the translations that new hardware isn't coming until Q2 2024 at the earliest are correct, that just further strengthens the case.
They have to. Furakawa already expressed doubt in reaching the 15 million units milestone. They need something for the rest of the year to keep up whatever steam is left. But something tells me the pessimism could be because the upcoming software isn’t anything to die for

Well. 😳 That’s better than a denial. This gives me SOME hope, haha xD

Good old Nikkei with that clearing-up.
I’d lol of they end up revealing the Successor in June xD

surely that is 2024 and not 2025?
Must be. Fiscal Year 2025-26 is too far off. Especially if Nintendo just said they aren’t optimistic in reaching 15 millions. It only goes worse from there.

Is there a mistake or am I reading an assumption that Nintendo would only reveal a next generation system after March 31, 2025?
That’s what investors are believing. What I believe is that it’s soon. 18 months top with what Furakawa said. “There is nothing I can tell you at this time”. It wasn’t the usual “looking at new ways to play for our customers”. It was a “not today” statement. We’ll see how that statement translates after TOTK.

I’m 100% sure that any card Nintendo has up their sleeve will be played in June.

Especially if they’ll revise the forecast to up it for successor sales

Have Nintendo entered charted territory?

lmaoo

I'm not actually crazy for still believing in 2023, right? I can safely say that the fiscal report doesn't mean much, right? That blank 2H has to mean something, right?????

Upon further reflection, I think I'm gonna be more bullish on my standings. Ultimately, the fiscal report tells us little more than what we already know and we still don't have the full picture of what was stated during said report. We'll have to wait for the Q&A and a better translation in order to get a better grasp on things.

While I understand that many hear don't see the correlation, I still believe Nintendo has something planned for 2H of this year. I mean, how can you confidently predict 15 million Switches sold if you haven't revealed your software lineup and still not have additional hardware out by March? Zelda's not gonna cut it for the whole year. This isn't my gut telling me this, this is not normal for Nintendo at all.

I don't know how much push back I'll get for this, since we're currently at our "doomer" phase again (I know some of us hate that word, but this thread has a tendency for mood swings), but I feel that this is still a logical outcome.

Yes, just like the Switch was released, this doesn't seem to be a big problem for Nintendo.

My take for this year and for 2024.

Nothing in June hardware wise would indicate no hardware for this year.
So reveal June 2024 and release Nov/Dec 2024 is likely now.

OR
Reveal in Oct/Nov 2023 and release in March/April 2024(unlikely but possible)

It's ok to be concerned looking at the lineup atm, though I agree the hyperbole is unnecessary. I'm sure it will calm down after a few hours though

honestly my biggest worry atm, is this gives the Saudis the chance to buy more stock

PS3 and PS4 only received their successors exactly 7 years after their respective releases, but the Switch, which was more commercially successful than both, couldn't because otherwise Nintendo is doomed.
Yeah people are weird. Nintendo will release a Switch 2 next year.

This seems like a pretty big deal, would you say it'd be thread-worthy for the main site?
I don't think so, it would only lead to a repeat of what happened here. Also there is kinda a thread already talking about it

I don't think it's thread worthy. That other thread was made in relation to the sales numbers, and added the (wrong) info about no new hardware.

Especially since this isn't official communication.

It could be that the hardware have been ready since August 2022 and they are waiting for the software (OS and maybe games) to be ready, maybe they have problems with the OS and their BC.

They may also take advantage and manufacture with less nm....

Very very odd!

Next year is fine. It’s not coming this year. It’s all about the transition from Switch to Switch 2 from Nintendo.

If they were launching new hardware this year, 15m would be too low. Switch sold 15m in its first full year. Even if the current switch moves 13m this fiscal year or 12m, the remaining 2-2m would easily be surpassed with refreshed hardware on the market.

That forecast is pipe dreams but it is too low to expect new hardware this year unless its a really late march launch and even that is unlikely.

What are your opinions on Nintendo now entering the medicine segment?

What do you mean they're not?

They're getting really good at making those hard-to-swallow pills.
