StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (Read the staff posts before commenting!)

Totally this. I can see 15M just if the new console will release in march 2024 by the end of the fiscal year.
That's cutting it wayyyyy too close for this fiscal year, at least without strong enough software.

I mean, ultimately, if Nintendo wants to and thinks it can ride out another full FY on the Switch, be my guest.

But at least talk to me about the software you're going to have for that.
Yeah, sure, they will have an absolute mega strike coming up end of this week. And they can definitely ride out May on nothing but TotK marketing pushing alone.

But come June, time's ticking for them to talk. Because after July, there's literally no new (full) game dated. Only DLC.

So they gotta talk about something.

I'm not actually crazy for still believing in 2023, right? I can safely say that the fiscal report doesn't mean much, right? That blank 2H has to mean something, right?????

Nothings ruled out from what we can see so far - if optimism’s workin for ya keep at it

“Other software publishers also plan to release a wide variety of titles, and we will work to invigorate the platform by supplementing existing titles with a continuous stream of new titles and add-on content.”
If this is accurate the fear of nothing after Pikimin is unfounded at least

also if this topic is any indication I'm DREADING the Zelda review thread

I've been a 2024 believer since COVID hit if I'm honest. HD console life cycles have been pretty consistent (except for the Wii U for obvious reasons), so 2023 made sense to me until the pandemic turned the world upside down (especially in regard to supply chains). Also, if a Switch 2 was going to be released in six months, I truly believe it would basically be an open secret at this point. Launching a new console is not something that just flies under the radar until the official announcement. Obviously I could be totally wrong, but I wouldn't put betting money on it.

If I had to guess the empty second half could just mean they waited until TOTK came out to go heavy on announcements.

While I wouldn't call it one-to-one by any means, the Switch had less than 5 months worth of marketing, so that might be in the cards and while I'm still not 100% convinced that leaks or rumors hold any real validity for when a new system is on the horizon, it's still odd that we haven't had anything substantial.

Analysts being dips about Furukawa not leading Nintendo into the cloud.

I looked up Asymmetric Advisors on LinkedIn, and it's a tiny firm consisting of 3 gaijin. They formerly were equity sales, and somehow reinvented themselves as advisors/analysts. It appears that Mochizuki is scraping the bottom of the barrel here.

I don't really mind if it slips into early 2024, its just.. the announcement of it, I NEED AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT THAT IT'S COMING BLS... OTL
Yeah I get not wanting to confirm too much in case something changes but something like the NX tweet in 2016 would really help chill a lot of us out.

“The next generation of Nintendo Switch is coming in 2024! Stay tuned for more.”

Or at least give us some games to be look forward to in H2 :(((

The first response to this being someone asking "Are those analysts woke?" so they can tell whether or not to trust them is the funniest fucking thing to me. The reason I don't have any insights into Nintendo's future is because I'm dumb, not because I'm a lesbian.

Some names, from worst to best:

  • New Nintendo Switch (or super or ultra or any other old world they already use)
  • Nintendo Switch Deluxe
  • Nintendo Drake (or other world that is not switch)
  • Nintendo Switch 4K
  • Nintendo Switch 2

The best they can do is use a number. People will easy understand that is not the same machine. even 4k can bring some confusion.
I have a funny feeling it'll be called Switch Enhanced.

If Nintendo's stock starts to plummet because VGC reported they had said no new hardware, and it's not true, I wonder if Nintendo would actually put out a statement correcting them.

I doubt it would (or does) plummet due to VGC. Doing so due to a Bloomberg report might be more likely, or simply just due to the analyst comments.

I also still have my fingers crossed, it wouldn’t be the first time there was basically nothing happening and then a few weeks later Bam! News!

But they do have to do something, you can fill this year with whatever you’re gonna scrape together but if hardware is holiday 2024 what in gods name are you possibly going to fill the 11 months leading up to it with??
Metroid Prime 4?

It seems to be widely reported in western press now. I don't know if it's just VGC who decided to make this claim either, maybe it's coming from multiple places.

But it's an interesting question, since announcing hardware too early is usually an issue too. So how exactly could they even go about correcting something like that if it was doing harm to their stock?

Nintendo have a clear window for a big launch this holiday/early next year - no new hardware from Sony/Microsoft beyond a revision of PS5... getting into holiday next year we're potentially looking at launching against a PS5 Pro which would obviously split people's money in these times of price gouging corporations artificially inflating prices.
is quite curious we know more about PS5 Pro and the rumored new portable console Sony is gonna release this holiday season, then Nintendo next hardware

Yeah I’m still expecting some time in 2024, hopefully March-ish but maybe later.

Unless I’m missing something, why does a currently quiet 2h 2023 in terms of games point to new hardware? Couldn’t they just not have much to release this year since they’re getting games ready for the Switch 2 next year? And the games they do have, they’ll announce in some kind of summer direct?

The curious thing about it was the relatively packed H1. Usually Nintendo would not pack so much into H1 that they don't need to if they have a sparse H2, since games tend to do better for them in H2.

Dunno, but i'd guess outlets that the stock market actually pay attention to wouldn't come up with wrongly translated stuff and keep their reporting to analyst comments. They'd write again after Nintendo released their official translations.

What i think we can all agree on is that Furukawa (nor any other suit) never said something about denying hardware release and kept to "Nothing to announce" non-answers.

For everything else we should just wait for the translation.

(Btw. this is totally a reason why i hate this stock market stuff, so volatile, so reactionary ...)

I admire Nintendo's commitment to secrecy. They don't even trust their investors.

I mean ... after reading some of the questions some of them had in the past, i wouldn't trust them either! ;DD

Yeah, he said it exists. What else was said?
for the PS5 Pro he mentioned his possible techinal/graphical aspect and when the game could be released, he predicted the console could release holiday next year, for Sony next portable console he gave all the techinal/graphical aspect and it release date(novembre of this year)

What exactly do you know about PS5Pro besides it existing? And that "rumored portable console," has been reported as a tv-play device, not a console, that we don't know much else about?
PS5 Pro existing is basically a step ahead of what we have on REDACTED at this point in time.

If I had a dollar every time Mochizuki has been wrong about the new Nintendo Switch hardware, I could buy a case of tequila to drown my sorrow about how late the next hardware is.

Also it's 2024. Relax. Bye.

I don't think Nintendo cares much about their stock value.
Stock value mostly affects their ability to borrow, but they're drowning in cash.

In September 2021 (I think?), they bought back half a billion dollars of their own public stock to dissolve it.
If they want to keep at it, the lower it is the better.

But it takes time to Cook good things, so I remain hopeful and will use this year to clear my backlog 👍
I presume you accidentally cap’d this because I thought of Tim Cook xD

  • Fire Emblem 4 remake
  • 2D Mario
  • Metroid Prime 4
  • Tomodachi Life
  • Wind Waker HD / Twilight Princess HD
  • Paper Mario TTYD HD
  • Ring Fit Adventure 2
  • Animal Crossing spinoff
  • Xenoblade Warriors
  • Astral Chain 2
  • Rhythm Heaven

There you go, 11 games that can reasonably release on Switch by the end of 2024. Plus a lot of DLC.
It’s not 1st party, but there’s the rumored Shin Megami Tensei HD Remasters for IV and Apocalypse

Btw. ... i can't be the only one who sees Grumpy Cat in this guy? Please tell me i'm not.
I haven’t played the game, but I see him as well ahahahahaha

I mean, ultimately, if Nintendo wants to and thinks it can ride out another full FY on the Switch, be my guest.
If Furakawa doesn’t feel confident about Nintendo reaching the 15 million units for the Fiscal Year, I don’t think they’re in the attitude of Wii to Wii U era of being on auto-pilot and riding the Switch ‘til it reaches the grave. They’re either being conservative or optimistic to not have outlets affecting their stock valuation with rumors of an impending successor to the Switch. Advisory groups are already saying to not expect a Switch 2 in the next twelve months. It’s a bad panorama for Nintendo, meaning they can surprise with the announcement of new hardware.

But I’m just saying. I’m being cautiously optimistic. But this barren software lineup really is unprecedented. Especially for a console in its final years plus a President outright saying they’re not confident in reaching those numbers. This wasn’t just some analyst being pessimistic: it came straight from the horse’s mouth. They’re either keeping their cards close, or something is happening on the software or hardware pipeline (or both).

A Switch remaster couldn't be much different from the Wii U version technically.
It comes with the Fire and Ice Temples that were scrapped… syke xD

This is Switch-era Nintendo, traditional marketing makes too much sense.
