it has to have been drake. there's no other option that makes sense imoI find it funny that the one piece of information that could bring a little clarity is the one thing we might never get ie what the switch pro was LUL
I'm puzzled...
if the new console comes out in 2 years, what will Nintendo cover this time frame with? Mario 3D? MP4?, MK9? Ok, but... if these rounds burn, what will they be firing with next gen?
I'm a big believer in the old shit yearI'm puzzled...

Going to be joining you there, but not in the actual console. I'm sticking with emulation to run that one and leave until this is shown to be the jump.
maybe they're still getting it above 20 fps lol3. The silence about Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is the most "wtf?" question here. We're less than 4 months before the release and we got 0 gameplay footage. Why if not to show it running on a better hardware?
that was an Animal Crossing-like announcement. just a way to say something is coming in the next year or so4. Pikmin 4 is another "wtf?" question. They announced the game with an in-game cutscene, then a static image of the new visuals. Why not a little gameplay like every Nintendo-announced games (except Zelda)?
1. The acquisition hasn't actually gone through, and nobody knows if it will.this is a good point. as I said earlier the most impressive downports, skyrim and the new dooms, came from a company that has since been swallowed up by the kraken
really? I could've sworn that one was a slam dunk1. The acquisition hasn't actually gone through, and nobody knows if it will.
Bethesda has, Activision is not a slam dunk. I edited my post.really? I could've sworn that one was a slam dunk
If nothing is planned until '24-'25, Nintendo's empty-looking 2023 is even more confusing.
True. Weirdly enough Mochizuki from Bloomberg seems to agree with Digital Foundry’s claims but no article out.Why are we only hearing this story of shelved hardware and recalled dev kits from Nate and John Linneman? This feels like a huge story that would be picked up by Bloomberg or WSJ.
Edit: lol people pointed this out already my bad
Can we refrain from making claims like this until the February Direct? If nothing is planned until '24-'25, Nintendo's empty-looking 2023 is even more confusing.

That's sort of the thing, though. Drake doesn't make sense for a "Switch Pro". It never has.it has to have been drake. there's no other option that makes sense imo

Wasn't attempting to claim anything. It just feels unusual to be most of the way through January and have no significant releases penciled in for March or April that I can recall. Can we refrain from making claims like this until the February Direct?
This happens every single goddamn year.
As sad as it sounds, this could totally be true. Let’s imagine that after Zelda, they’ll launch Prime Remake, maybe a Pokémon spin off/remake, some of these HD Remasters and 2D Mario. None of these are “big games” but this could easily be the line-up, along with Pikmin 4, till 2024/2025. Software droughts are not unprecedented. They happened with Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft all the time and Nintendo doesn’t care about that maybe one or two years are seen as “weak”. They’ll try to release as many games as possible on the next system, that means: as few as possible on the current Switch.5. If the late 2024/early 2025 is true, then we can say that "Nintendo has nothing after Zelda" is a statement full of bullshit (and I was thinking the same before, but I can't believe that Nintendo will wait 2025 for a new Mario game). So, if anything, we will get games to play and we will be still happy;
Sorry but I will have to disagree with you here. Most current gen games are still last gen PS4 crossgen games, that doesn't stop those titles from taking advantage of PS5's graphics, likewise a game getting a 4K patch and a game ported to a more powerful Switch in the leap of performance Drake offers over TX1 is VERY different... Ray Tracing, new Assets, different shaders, there is simply a big difference from a finished game getting a patch 12 months to 18 months after it's release, and a game launching alongside new hardware, especially when Nintendo has stated on many occasions that Zelda is a graphical showpiece game that is meant to push their hardware. (specifically thinking about Iwata's comments about Zelda's graphics)
I love those two, but none of those are big at all. All around, the majority is only looking forward to Zelda, still waiting for the February direct.A year with a new fire Emblem, a new Pikmin, and a new Zelda is anything but empty. It's actually pretty great and we're just in January. The next direct should announce at least one other big game, possibly Metroid Prime 4 which has been rebooted more than 5 years ago.
that weird little bayonetta spinoff is for some reason a full price retail gameWasn't attempting to claim anything. It just feels unusual to be most of the way through January and have no significant releases penciled in for March or April that I can recall.
Maybe I'm forgetting something.
I think it's both. I don't doubt that Nate has legit sources (or, at least, has friends who have sources), but there's probably quite the game of telephone happening before info gets to him, and he's not equipped to interpret it correctly. And it's only because of an unprecedented data leak that we're able to even see that things don't add up in the first place.I'm going with Occam's Razor here.
Nate is either drawing incorrect conclusions from his sources or his sources themselves have wrong info.

unfortunately no chance nvidia would dare cross nintendo by doing something that based. they expect a 20 year partnership iircOkay, I guess at this point believing in Nate gets harder and harder.
-Drake wasn't the Switch PRO, of course, there's no way something so powerful (and that doesn't even have full native backwards compatibility) could be a MidGen refresh.
-Nintendo won't launch a Switch with Drake in 2025, that doesn't make the slightest sense, if the Tegra X1 and the chosen clocks were already a conservative choice in 2017, T239 in 2025 will be VERY late to the party.
-The only possible explanation would be that Nintendo canceled Switch 2 in 2023 to release 2 years later, but that doesn't make sense either.
It may be wishfull thinking, but I still believe in a launch with ToTK.
If Nintendo really scrapped the T239, I just hope NVidia makes a "Shield Switch" and repeats Playstation history.
now this... this would be interestingIf Nintendo really scrapped the T239, I just hope NVidia makes a "Shield Switch" and repeats Playstation history.
The best selling game on Switch didn't even got past 5 million, that's really not big at all. The numbers are there, what you think of big it actually isn't in numbers. It's just January. 1/12th of the year.
And Fire Emblem is absolutely a big game, or Nintendo wouldn't be littering smash with FE characters and making those sad Musou (I dislike Musou a lot).
Pikmin was big enough to have an almost logo only announcement.
it's funny, 2025 drake would be worst case but something totally different in 2027 could be best caseI guess Nintendo really did look at their pandemic bump and decide that they could extend it a few more years. If this means we’ll get a Lovelace Switch 2 I’m for it though. The later it comes hopefully the better the hardware will be.
It's not just the name. There were suggestions, especially in 2021, that the system was going to be New 3DS-like, and that never really sat right with me based on the hardware. They all said that calling it a 'Switch Pro' was more out of convenience.
And it did kind of warped the conversation around it in a negative manner.
I'm wondering how long, the sales of the thing did drop 25% last year like someone above mentioned.Take away for me. Nintendo has all the time in the world. They will not launch all games we want in the next direct and they will not rush in any next gen system despite all the pixel counter see them falling behind. Sales figures are on their side.
Can we refrain from making claims like this until the February Direct?

yeah, but that down year was better than PS4's best yearI'm wondering how long, the sales of the thing did drop 25% last year like someone above mentioned.
