Don’t see the negative over a Mario trailer.

Without it. Same amount of games shown. With it. Same amount of games shown, plus some extra entertainment in the direct.

Nintendo were going to show Pikmin 4 but Furukawa said the Direct going over 41 minutes would be impossible so the game had to cancelled to make room for the Mario movie trailer.

Nintendo fans: I CAN’T wait for <Nintendo Game>!

Also Nintendo fans: waits for <Nintendo Game> anyway
Nintendo fans:"I wish they would make more sequels for franchises I like. They don't need to be revolutionary or anything"

Also Nintendo fans:"Splatoon 3 is a boring, unnecessary iterative sequel"

Some of the weirdest takes I've ever seen on Famiboards were in the Splatoon 3 review thread.

Can't wait to hear Nate Predictions video, It's a very entertaining format and It's exciting because It helps to set correctly the expections. Tomorrow Will be a Good day.

I woke up to find a change of the moderation guard and Emily choosing violence.

Shit's gettin wild yall, I think this Direct is actually gonna happen!

the vibes are on~

I really hope there's a smidgeon of raccoon games in the direct

even splatoon 3 news would be a nice smackerel
I hope you're proud of yourself but you actually got me wishing for a new Wave Race, if for nothing else just to see what they can do with water physics/animation now.

Splaccoon

EDIT: in a spur of awareness, Splaccoon sounds like a game where you hit raccoons with your car, not what I meant. That game would be Simpsons Road Kill

Considering that the Mario movie casting was hands-down the most talked-about announcement in last September's Direct, I'm sure they are looking for the same publicity a trailer will inevitably give them.

if the switch is almost dead it would check out
You know, it's possible I've missed some new information, but I'd always figured it would make sense for a new console to also be able to play cartridges for the current Switch and thar some games could thus continue to release on the one but unlock upgrades on the other.

This is what's taking the Kid Icarus: Uprising remake so long; if they have to put that much effort into it, it might as well be for both consoles and serve as a showcase on one of them. Also the only explanation for what's taken F-Zero so long.

I'm glad that Nintendo is using the success of the Switch to bring back lots of old IPs, but I want them to do more new IPs too. I hope we get at least one in this Direct.
There are a ton of old IPs that deserve a chance at resurrection, but this current circumstance does also lend itself to the creation of new iPs, and we've seen some really good ones. I wouldnt be surprised to see more of both.

Any rumours for Style Savvy... any? 😭
We're not anywhere near savvy enough to discern those.

Dawn of the final day and all that jazz.
Let up hope we do not meet a terrible fate.

Mmhm. The publicity would outweigh the cringe.

I don't think there's any need to temper expectations in this case. From what I heard on that day's Nintendogs podcast the thing they were absolutely certain of being there was Zelda ports, nothing else. Then, Jeff said he personally expects the Prime Remaster, although they hadn't explicitly heard it would be there like they did with Zelda.
For what it's worth, Nintendo has released one Zelda-related game every year, for nearly 10 years. That's one reason why Jeff's information is actually believable. Jeff is also one of the nicest people in the game industry, so I want to see him get a 'W' here.

To reiterate, I don't know the contents of the Direct, but I sure hope Jeff's information is accurate! (Fingers crossed!)

I'm glad for the Fire Emblem crowd but damn, just got Three Hopes two months ago...

My "tempered expectations" predictions :

  • No new NSO System addition.
  • New Fire Emblem or Remake.
  • Some dated 3rd party games (Batman Arkham)
  • At least one good surprise from SquareEnix (nothing Quintet related) like Rudra no Hihou small remaster à la Romancing SaGa 2 & 3 and without any french translation (like RS 2 & 3).
  • F-Zero GX HD but that's the game I hate the most in all of F-Zero games, without any real QoL and rebalancing, I'll gladly skip this... "game".
  • Teasing of a new Rayman game & small segment for Rayman in Mario & Rabbids 2
  • Metroid Prime 4 keep existing but nothing is shown.
  • No Metroid Prime Remastered or Trilogy HD announcement.
  • First Xenoblade Chronicles 3 DLC showcase and possibly small update improvements).
  • Maybe Breath of the Wild 2 but I feel like since Nintendo completely let the "fake e3 month" pass, they'll wait for the Game Awards to show the next trailer.

You know, I'm kinda expecting this image will closely match to what the final boxart will look. The boxart will of course will be drawn and there will be more details about what Link can explore in the background but I suspect that Link skydriving into the open world (sky) will the boxart theme.

I can't wait to say some insane shit about this direct

"switch sports golf shadowdrop and dodgeball announcement were the best parts!!"

I could definitely see us getting a trailer for the Mario movie in this Direct because the date that the Direct is supposed to air is also the anniversary of Super Mario Bros. (September 13). It's not a particularly noteworthy anniversary year like the 25th, 30th or 35th, but still the anniversary.

My thoughts on the Mario Movie (without a trailer or knowing anything about it) are: it will probably look very, very pretty (Illumination does some incredibly good animation and visuals, they don't get enough credit for that), it will be pretty safe in terms of story by sticking close to the Bowser kidnap plot, and it will have at least 1 fart joke in it but will otherwise lean more into wholesome vibes rather than being played as a straight comedy. The casting is great sans Crisp Rat, and bare minimum we will probably get some certified Jack Black moments as Bowser, so it can't be that bad.

I just hope it's not mediocre. I'd rather it be completely terrible than mediocre.

Still hoping for a Mario Party Superstars DLC. If this time they don't show anything about it, I will start to believe that NDcube is already working on a new one

I'd love to see some DLC too. Specifically, I'd love to get Toad's Midway Madness, Koopa's Tycoon Town and Shy Guy's Perplex Express as playable boards. (If I had to pick just one from MP8 though, it would be Perplex Express by the slimmest of margins). Adding in more older mini games would be great as well. Maybe even some more playable characters.

I agree that if nothing is announced soon, then I wouldn't expect any DLC. That being said, I do hope that the next Mario Party is saved for Switch 2, probably within year one.
