I am really glad I stopped to browse Reddit.
I saw so many hateful things in the "gaming leaks and rumors" subreddit for folks they don't even know or interact with.

The irony of visiting a subreddit dedicated to leaker culture while simultaneously complaining about them....

Well, YouTubers with semi-large audiences telling them to think that way certainly doesn't help.

being a Fire Emblem and Xenoblade fan has payed off the last couple years.
Also... as a Metroid fan it really feels nice to be optimistic about the future of the franchise. The Switch is like Obama after the Bush presidency. An apology tour across all franchises.

EDIT: Quoted post redacted

Edit: my initial take came off as very hostile, and i dont want to be hostile or toxic. I understand the hard financial reality of click bait. Even so, if you are going to make a video that discusses rumors of a direct. Please be sure to be accurate. And dont put things in your thumbnail that were never even rumored, like star fox, it comes off as desperate. Like you could use a fake metroid prime Hd mock up instead which would also get folks interested in your video, without being misleading. Also, be sure to accuratley attribute rumors to the individual they came from, without being mean spirited or misleading. As emily said, her rumors are directly responsible for part of your income here, so please be accurate and respectful, and hell, maybe reach out to the leaker first before you make the video

Eternal Darkness is so not happening. In Nintendo's eyes, this was a very niche game and is not worth to be mentioned ever again. The sad reality imo.

The answer is as I feared. Despite all the mentions of GameCube, the deep pit of despair remains untouched. This. Can't. Be. Happening.

To be fair, the only Gamecube Remasters that have been talked by people with credibility are the two Zelda games and Metroid Prime 1. There's some hints by some people that maybe F-Zero GX might get a remaster. But that's it. Everything else is just speculation or hoping. With that said, I don't expect Nintendo to touch the series ever again for a number of reasons.

Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, Pokemon...

Switch is Nintendo's best RPG system since SNES.

Now they can focus on making it the best 2D platformer system since the SNES 🤗

Hope for something new, like the jump to the “new” series. Hand drawn background whorls be nice.

This is my most anticipated Nintendo event since that January 2017 Switch Reveal.
I'm getting nervous lol, but for some reason, if the Direct ends up being mediocre... I don't think I will be that disappointed.

At this point, the longer it takes to release big Nintendo games, the better. That could mean they will launch on better hardware.

I am going to be contrarian and say DS. Pokémon Platinum, HGSS, BW, Advance Wars Dual Strike and Days of Ruin, Mario and Luigi Bowsers inside Story, Fire Emblem games (even though one was Japan exclusive). I’ll also cheat a little and say the DQ games since they published them in the west.

I got a Rayman sorta comeback announcement on my birth month. Please let the goods continue with a Donkey Kong announcement, Nintendo. 🙏

I won't lie. Getting a Direct announcement would be a nice way to start the week. But if it doesn't get announced, then reading the reactions here will help make listening in on Monday morning company call a lot more fun.

I don't think HD remasters would completely prevent GameCube NSO from happening. Super Mario 64 was remastered for 3D All-Stars, but that didn't prevent Super Mario 64 from being re-released on N64 NSO.

Not every GameCube game is getting an HD remaster.
Thank you Emily.

It might not be on the current Switch but GC NSO should happen down the line, despite remasters/remake being planned.

Link's Awakening won't prevent GameBoy NSO either.

Regardless of how hype it is, this is one of the most important events of the Nintendo Switch era. What does the future of the platform hold?

So you're saying...there's a chance? YAHOO!!

Sadly never happening, too much baggage regarding silicon Knights.

We'll just have to imagine it

Yeah, I know chances for Eternal Darkness are somewhere in that eternal abyss, but I've been MIA for a while and saw an opportunity to acknowledge the everlasting despair of this situation. Besides, that is not dead which can forever lie, and all that.

Link's Awakening won't prevent GameBoy NSO either.
Still wish the earlier versions had been included with the remake, but so it goes.

If I don’t get BotW2 then I’ll get Metroid Prime remastered

If I don’t get that, then I’m 100% sure I’ll at least get another hype Bayo 3 trailer

So either way I’ll come out of this with something good

I’ll go against the grain and say no GCN NSO. The file sizes are a fairly big prohibitor, and I doubt Nintendo would want to give away a set of easily remasterable games for a subscription fee, when they could instead drop feed them over however many years they want as full titles.

I remember how Mario impressed and surprised me with real humans in the New Donk City, now I was thinking about how Zelda could do the same for the sequel and I think adding Fawful as final boss and Rayman rabbids instead of koroks would do the trick.

I agree. I guess they could make it a portal and you choose the download. But these games seem like primer remake/remaster territory and Nintendo could make more that way.

My question is therefore, do you expect them to stop adding retro libraries to NSO then ? How are they going to justify the Expansion Pack tier then ?

(Illumination does some incredibly good animation and visuals, they don't get enough credit for that)
Because its not necessary. All large animation studios provide great animation, and none of illumination's efforts can visually compare with anything Dreamworks, Disney or Pixar can offer. And when you factor in the actual quality of the films... yeah

Not every GameCube game is getting an HD remaster.

The only parts that make me think it won’t happen is

1.) the size of the games, this would be a damn big app to download if it contained multiple GC games
2.) The price of NSO, presumably they would raise the price for NSO again if they added GC. Would make it quite an expensive service if it had the same rise as when N64 was added.

Yes and they’ve already started coming up with other ways like including DLC. I’m sure they can think of more. Exclusive eShop titles and whatnot.

They still have GB, GBA, and DS to do before they do Gamecube anyway. Even if it happens it’s a long way off and would have to work differently due to the file sizes of each game. One GC game is probably multiple times bigger than the entire NES NSO app.

I know what you're getting at, but Link's Awakening is a very different story than 3D All Stars. While Link's Awakening on Switch got a complete visual overhaul, Super Mario 64 through 3D All Stars was a touch up of the UI and a resolution boost, but ultimately the same game as the N64 version.

But still you're right, that Link's Awakening remake won't prevent GB NSO.

This might come off as getting stale but I really hope if Nintendo like, shuffled around a hat with several small papers in to choose which GameCube games to remaster, the Star Fox games (especially Adventures for me pls) is one of them

So, where do we stand as far as Eternal Darkness rumors?

Well, remember a few months ago we had this on twitter

With the talk about Nintendo being active on socials, I wonder if they see how much people want ED and would let Nightdive do the work? Either that or Nightdive calling this out on Twitter means they are blacklisted haha.

Funny though, Emily mentioning last week how Nintendo are really keen on remastering but seems they are not keen on letting 3rd party devs help them do it?
