Nobody asked me BUT I’m still skeptical of 2 3D Zelda remasters coming out in the window before BOTW2. Maybe I’m too cynical but I think Nintendo would rather keep those for a time when a huge Zelda game isn’t 6-9 months away.

Metroid Prime HD though? Sure.
I’ve also been keeping up with Grubb’s Nintendo podcast for over a year. People ask about WW+TP every week. So the “rumor” gets recharged every time he says “…yeah I think we could see that this time”.

It’s always been wishful thinking and as we get closer to BotW 2, makes less and less sense. I don’t think we’ll see WW+TP before BotW 2.

They literally said, at least Mike and I think Jeff later too "The only thing we're pretty sure about is those Wii U Zelda ports, WWHD+TPHD coming to Switch"

well excuse me, im not a weeb so i dont get your jokes about weeb games.

yes. No matter what any doofus says, it always was. It only got more obvious as the years went on.
To elaborate, a lot of jrpgs were far more weeb then people realized in the 80's and 90's. Between the more primitive graphics and the changes in localization a lot of those elements were easy to downplay/miss.

I'm still gonna personally doubt WW and TP being there. Maybe I'm wrong but the nature of the rumors and expectations of those has never felt very solid, I think it's far more of a "this would make sense" thing than a "yes we've directly heard this is planned for this event" thing.

The timing feels very wrong to me, both of those games being released like ~6 months before BOTW 2. That's way too close together.

So on yesterdays games mess morning Jeff Grubb talked about what he heard would be in the direct. Specifically at the 6:50 mark he talks about the Zelda stuff, saying that he’s heard that they’ll reveal the name of the next Zelda along with revealing the Wii U ports. First time to my knowledge that he’s said botw 2 will be at the direct.

Jeff has talked about I think 3 things so far most definitely being there, being the Zelda ports, Metroid Prime and It Takes Two.

It's also assuming BOTW2 isn't delayed again, out of Spring.

I mean feel free to believe whatever but I'm personally choosing to doubt this one.

I agree, but I’m also very open to the possibility that BotW2 isn’t releasing in ~6 months.
Sure, that's of course a possibility but as of now I see no reason to actively expect that.

Maybe the Wii U ports are being announced here but releasing later next year? After BOTW 2?

Good to see we’re in agreement.

Tempering my expectations for next week's Direct.

Out of all the rumors, the new Fire Emblem has the strongest odds of appearing in this Direct. Because I honestly can't see a scenario where Fire Emblem doesn't release early next year. The game is finished and ready to go. I'll be a little baffled if it doesn't appear in the Direct.

A word of caution. I like Jeff Grubb as both a person and as a reporter. I think he's super cool. But judging by his tweet below, it doesn't seem like he's 100% confident about the Direct being a 'Zelda blowout'. I could be wrong, but that's how I'm interpreting his tweets? So, I think it would be wise for people to manage their expectations going into this Direct. I don't think any insiders actually know the full contents of this Direct.

If Emily believes Fire Emblem has the strongest odds in showing. Jeff is this confident in Metroid Prime coming this holiday along with WWHD/TPHD being in this direct, I’d imagine expectations would begin with those 4 games.
Mainline Fire Emblem has been a high probability announcement for me for a while coming into September. Nintendo revealed the first gameplay footage and title for Three Houses in June 2018, 9 to 12 months ahead of the original projected release date of spring 2018. Every mainline Fire Emblem in the last decade has launched in the first half of the calendar year, bar Three Houses, which got delayed and slipped to July 2019. FE as a new game announcement for the first half of 2023 seems very likely to me.

Prime HD simply has to be there now that a Direct is happening and the release is said to be happening soon. Zelda ports seem very likely; Jeff went on the record multiple times to say he's heard they're being announced. I can't quite make sense of what Nintendo are doing, but I expect old and new Zelda to be present. I don't expect to see further remakes/remasters from Nintendo just yet; announcing 3 in one go, plus potentially additional back catalogue content through NSO announcements, is enough. Plus, Advance Wars may resurface.

Outside of that, there's a long list of things I'd like to see, further EPD games among them. Mainline Mario (2D or 3D), new Donkey Kong, a new IP or a reboot from EPD would be very exciting. I'm half-expecting NdCube to pop up with an Animal Crossing spin off at some point in the next 12 months, and I wonder what smaller teams like Arika and indieszero are up to. Good-Feel working on new Wario Land, or Nintendo tapping someone for a new Wario World, would be grand.

Sure, that's of course a possibility but as of now I see no reason to actively expect that.

That makes very little sense to me. Like, I don’t think Nintendo’s going to be like “here’s a trailer for some classic Zelda games, alright now forget all about that cuz here’s a new BotW2 trailer WOOOOOOOO”

I want GBA games on NSO so bad
GB/C and GBA on NSO would literally be the biggest announcement for me at this Direct.

I needs me some Mole Mania, Donkey Kong ‘94, Super Mario Land 2, Kirby’s Dream Land 2 on Switch. I know emulators exist but I want them on my Switch.

I guess that becomes a question of if the spacing goes both ways. If it did, announcing them now would mean over a year's wait. I think it's more likely that the Zelda ports are soon (late September to early October?) and the new game comes in Q2

I agree, but what makes even less sense is them announcing classic 3D Zelda games coming within 2-4 months followed by botw 2 (as of now) like 2-4 months later.

They don't do things like that in the same series.

All the more reason I simply expect those games not to be there at all.

It's very possible and IMO likely that Grubb has heard there will be multiple Zelda games there and simply assumes that means botw2 and the Wii U ports. When in reality the other (non -botw2) one could be anything else. A new 2D game, a new spinoff, a new Hyrule warriors (again??), a new indie collab a la Cadence of Hyrule...

I think the problem here is that people in the know know that WW and TP and are done and ready to go, so if they have reason to expect a Zelda game or even a Wii U ports/remaster they'll naturally expect that here.

But I really don't see the schedule making sense for it unless BOTW 2 is delayed to holiday 23.

"I'll head to famiboards tonight. I'm sure that the Direct is planned for next week. I'm not 100% on any of the games. But we've heard about Zelda ports for this show. I wish I could be more confident. Metroid is coming this holiday, so I expect it at the direct."
- Jeff Grubb DM

I don’t see why they couldn’t release tphd and wwhd late September. It’s not like these games will have legs, the bulk of sales will come in the first few weeks. Tie the announcement with a botw 2 name reveal, and then release soon after to capitalize on the hype of botw 2. Makes sense to me.

No telling what kind of third party games will show up either. Is there any rumored besides Batman and Biomutant?
Batman Arkham Collection (retail)
Biomutant (retail)
SaGa Frontier 2 (retail)
Remnant From the Ashes (rating)
Risen Remastered (rating)
Humankind (rating)

From insiders:
It Takes Two
Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered

ask him if when he says he's heard about the zelda ports if he actually means that he hasn't heard about the zelda ports

Unless they're digital only there would have been retail leaks already if the games are launching in less than 3 weeks.

Just because you don’t believe what he says doesn’t mean you get to tell the guy what he said was something he interpreted incorrectly. He (and Mike) said TPHD/WWHD is what they heard will be in this direct. Not some spin-off or some other Zelda remakes. There is no “imo” on something he factually stated.

I agree, but my conclusion is different. Since people are very sure WW/TP are going to be there, to me that points to BotW2 probably not releasing 2-4 months later. Which honestly seems quite possible even if there wasn’t a rumor of a different Zelda game being released; at any given time, the odds of “Will the big new mainline 3D Zelda game get delayed?” are never terrible. And I think they’re going to want to promote the heck out of it, including an appearance at E3. Throw in rumors of it potentially launching alongside new hardware (and all the supply chain chaos that releasing new hardware entails right now) and I see a lot of reasons to believe that BotW2 might not be coming out in, like, March.

What’s the inside scoop on BOTW2 delay?

Was it delayed due to dev trouble or dev running smoothly, just all strategic planning.

Very interesting to hear Nintendo has a backlog of games waiting to release

I'm not telling him what he said, I'm saying what could be possible based on what's being reported to us.

Sept/Oct for Zelda remasters is like up to 8 months from BOTW 2 potentially (if we assume its coming between now and June - I don't personally think its coming in March) which seems fine/about right

'Spring 2023' date for BotW2 could extend as far as May-June. I think there's precedent for Nintendo saying 'Spring' for a game and it releasing in June... I just don't remember what it is. :p

WWHD/TPHD double pack in Oct-Nov means a possible 7-8 months til BotW2.

Not sure how likely any of these dates are, but it seems like a sufficient enough gap for those two remasters to tide folks over til the sequel's out. I assume they must have other Zelda games in the pipeline to fill the void after BotW2 and its DLCs. Originally I assumed WW+TP would fill that void, but maybe they have other surprises in mind (new 2D Zelda pls)

I mean they launched Super Mario 3D All Stars at retail with 2 weeks notice, but I can't really recall if there were any retail leaks at the time. 2020 is a haze

I assume that if the zelda ports aren't this fall they're being held so 2024 has a zelda release
