What's frustrating is the wording.

"Has likely been delayed"

Past tense. Meaning "it's likely the decision has already been made to delay it".

There's really no other way of interpreting that.

so they do have people at noa, interesting
The problem isn't the lack of a source. The problem is interpreting a "conversation" as a sign of a delay when it's surely something that happens after all kinds of news events but doesn't lead to any plans changing, and horking that up on Twitter as, quote, "the Direct is likely delayed," when there's no sign of that actually happening.

I can't see there being a delay. I know she's not a politician, but she is controversial and Nintendo likes to avoid touching controversial figures and inserting themselves into politics. I can see them ignoring it. Plus TGS. Just seems like canceling a video game event for an English monarch is kinda odd. Then again, Nintendo Japan is definition of odd.
Tbh delaying a Direct out of respect for the Queen's death, while imo unnecessary, is only going to make some people online angry. It's not going to make the company look bad generally. She's not so controversial that acknowledging her death is bad PR.

Most of the world leaders have or will do it. Apple did it. In my opinion it's not needed from a company like Nintendo, but it's fine, optics-wise.

Edit: Plus the Direct hasn't been announced anyway, so they don't even need to publicly delay it, let alone give a reason for delaying it.

I think it's possible the Direct gets pushed but there's a difference between reporting that "The Direct is likely delayed" vs. "NOA staff to discuss timing of Direct with NCL". Like I said, for the third time, the timing of events didn't seem to line up to me. Grubb tweeted out the Direct was likely delayed before the queen was officially announced dead and while NCL staff were likely asleep. Between the news first breaking to when she were death was officially announced was about 5 or so hours. I just couldn't imagine that the higher ups of a company would make such a decision in that short amount of time in the middle of the night before she is even declared dead.

world leaders die all the time though. hell was nintendo disrupted when shinzo abe got blasted by the guy with the fallout gun? and that was even closer home.

Did Nintendo ever post anything about Abe's death? Not to say Elizabeth's death isn't big news but the former Japanese prime minister being assassinated, I think, is a more shocking event then someone very old dying, especially for a Japanese based company like Nintendo.

My post is about the optics and reception of a delay due to the Queen, not the chance it happens.

Right... and I would say that a delay over that also wouldn't have made them look bad... and he was an actual politician, not a non-partisan figurehead.

If you gleaned that I said they will or should delay the Direct over this, you misread my post.

I know this has been a running gag since before my time but I just wanna let yall know that every time someone posts this, I can't help but read it in the tune of the Bee Gees' "How Deep Is Your Love"
It's a fami original, I'm sure you were around. I think it was like earlier this year

Disney+ celebrations are still tomorrow and continue throughout the weekend right? So it’s not like Nintendo will be the only media company promoting a big showcase or whatever

Listen I wouldn't give any flak to anyone about this whole direct delay thing. Jeff Grubb said he hadn't personally heard about it and is being very transparent about the whole situation. As for the other guy (sorry I don't know his name), he reported on an ongoing discussion that is very likely happening. Maybe his wording was a bit misleading, but in all fairness what he heard from NOA might have sounded more concrete than what it actually was. These kinds of presentations and announcements are always in flux, sometimes not even due to real world events. We can't expect insiders to 100% know what's going on when even the companies don't.

Tbh I doubt the direct will be delayed.
If it was today sure, but it will probably be on Tuesday (since the announcement will be on Monday)
So I think we are good

Also, hasn´t the claim for the delay been made before she died ?
There may have been some talk at Nintendo to delay the Direct, so that she wouldn´t die during the livestream.

Yes, it was made before her passing. That's actually not a bad thought. Imagine if it happened during the livestream, it would take a lot of attention away.

If it’s delayed, I’ll brush my teeth with electrical contact cleaner.

If the Direct was due today, Friday, then I'd fully expect a delay. However, I think next week will happen as planned.

We should find out today what the plan for national mourning is, and timelines for the funeral. It's all but confirmed the funeral will be in at least a week's time.

Sad moment for the UK, the Commonwealth and many, many others across the world. Almost feels like losing a member of your own family, such was the connection that the Queen had forged with us during her time.

I know the Royal Family is not loved by everyone, but first and foremost what an inspiring and incredible lady she really was.

Anyway, @Mr_No_U, if my face gets delayed, does that mean that when I inadvertently side-eye the mirror during my morning routine I get some kind of 5 second grace period before I get a heart-attack, or…?

One thing that makes me believe the delay is bogus is the fact that the delay was apparently set before the Queen was even dead.

It sounds like Nintendo were concerned about clashing with the announcement of her passing, or the funeral. If the Direct is next week, there's no danger of either of those.

I personally think Grubb has just decided to have some fun with this and got a few other guys involved. They’re just messing with us and the rest of the internet, laughing at the madness their posts have created. And they got a lot more people listening to their podcast etc. So he’s having a blast right now.

Imagine Monday Nintendo going like "Tune in on [DAY] at [TIME] for a first in-depth look at the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild".

I will poop my pants. On-stream.

By the end of all this, what do you think will have been the more crazy lead up to a direct announcement? The 2018 mini or this year’s September one?

Does E³ count? Because for me nothing will ever top the "WHATS BEHIND THE CURTAIN" thing during a E³ years ago and the burning Chibi-Robo tease.

Real talk: on Wednesday I was scrolling through Twitter and saw (what I now realise was) a fake Nintendo Spain Twitter account tweet that there was going to be a direct on the 14th of September at 23:00 CEST. I was at work so I didn't pay much attention to the details and just assumed it was happening.

It's only now, 2 days later, and seeing that there have been no threads posted about the Direct, and seeing that this thread hasn't blown up, that I realised "huh, maybe this isn't happening". So I checked the real Nintendo Spain and... yep. I've been duped.

I am inexplicably sad about me being stupid but also about not having a direct. Best of both worlds.

The first one was pretty rad for us Shin Megami Tensei fans though. :p

Was that the first one? I really think to remember it wasn't. I think the first one in 2020 was really bad.
Then the Atlus one, was good. (Helps if you like SMT)
And the MonHun Rise one was really good.

Oh and the last one recently was also pretty good.

Actually, i think there are more "good" Partner Directs than bad ones?

Yep, it was this one:

Introducing Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase | July 2020, the first in a series focused on Nintendo Switch games from our development and publishing partners.

I think they varied from being passable (the first one, personally) to pretty great (more common). Don't think there was a really bad one outside of the first one (if one isn't into SMT).
