To be honest if there is something in that Direct that's planned to release in like 8 weeks or something I would say that delaying the Direct two weeks or so would screw their marketing quite a lot.
 
I’m gonna be honest. I’m not sure why they felt they needed to make a rumor about the possibility of another rumor not happening.

Could’ve just questioned it instead “so queen’s dead, I wonder that’ll affect the direct next week due it possibly being a global event in some territories”

Like either why, the internet was gonna think it was to cover up if the leak didn’t happen. It’s always a lose lose when comes to leaking info. Personally, I would’ve guessed the direct would be delayed for Queen’s death, especially if they held a memorial service something next week. Too much attention diversion and whatnot. I also buy Nintendo not caring enough to delay anything but a few day tweets

Yeah, western Directs sometimes skip Koei Tecmo games (Atelier, Nobunaga, Monster Rancher) but they get announced later on. There's that teased Atelier game but they sounded like it's gonna be revealed at their TGS event... If the Direct gets delayed, they might do that instead.

Dan Ryckert on the Giant Bomb stream seemed to have some sort of info that the delay is a possibility.

It honestly sounds like Jeff's sources haven't heard anything.
 
And the thing is like... Disney is going to go ahead with TONS of announcements at D23 this weekend. Other stuff will still be happening. I just really don't know if I buy this.

Again, D23 is a paid fan convention that already had attendees. It’s not really the same thing as delaying a marketing presentation on YouTube.
 
As an American, I can say that if Joe Biden died today, I would still not want the direct to be delayed. I honestly don't care I'm sorry.

TGS being so soon is what's holding me up, too. I totally understand if you can't share this level of detail, but are the games you know of first party, third party, or both? I'm curious if Nintendo could really pivot to, say, a partner direct just to satisfy their TGS obligations, or if it could be a more complicated pivot than that if they decide to cancel/delay the Direct.

My point is to show that the world is not going to stop. Maybe it's delayed, maybe not, but to think that come Tuesday the news worldwide will still be SO dominated by her death that no one will speak of anything else is just... wrong.
 
This has honestly been quite the awful and depressing week for me, so a Direct next week would have helped tons for my mental health.
I know this probably sounds dumb or childish, but it's how I feel.

It doesn’t have to be, like, 100% media domination, it just has to be enough of a media disruption/distraction to make it make more sense to hold the (still unannounced!) presentation on a different date, like the following Tuesday or Wednesday (which would be after the funeral).

Other business-related announcements have already been impacted, I can say this with 100% confidence. It would not be surprising at all for a Nintendo marketing presentation to be impacted in the same way.

It's not a competition, its not something you compete with, its gonna suck the air out of the media for 10 days w/ the series of public events and preparations for the funeral - remember the US (and even Japan) had blanket coverage of the "Royal Wedding" - if third party stuff has to be announced before TGS then my guess as someone who's done social for big entertainment properties is that they will do them as tweets or let the announcements be made at TGS and have the direct after the 10 days of events etc... regardless if a few trailers aren't "premieres" anymore given its only third party stuff.

Metroid/Zelda etc... wouldn't be affected by waiting given Nintendo are not at TGS themselves and there's unlikely to be something like Age of Calamity coming this year with a third party heavily involved in a Nintendo 1st party IP high profile release - makes sense for them to wait it out to me

No, but I think the same dynamic applies. If a company like Disney feels comfortable marching onward with their announcement slated for a convention (because if nothing else, there's profit to be had), then what's stopping Nintendo, Sony, their partners or various others that are going to be doing their own things in or around TGS?
 
I don’t really think Nintendo will delay it when Ubisoft and Disney’s are taking place (we don’t know if they will but I’d guess so).
Wondering what Sony is doing.

It's just funny how it has happened every time.

Every time there's a rumored Direct, a few days before the supposed date, someone comes out saying it may not happen/isn't what we thought it would be.

Even though we've been told, FOR A FACT, that a Direct is happening.

As someone's whose online persona is also fused to a Mario character, let me reassure you - despite the crown and the association with Peach and Daisy, Rosalina is never actually referred to in-game as a princess. In fact, it's only ever mentioned in Prima guides and, like, on the 3D All-Stars website, I guess? She watches over the cosmos but does not rule it, at most commanding over a space ship and watching over Lumas. The Honey Queen that rules over the bees in that one galaxy has more political power than Rosalina does.

Honestly? I think you're good to go still. May the stars shine down on you evermore.

now if you have aspirations of godhood that may be another thing, lol
 
If Ubisoft and Disney aren't rescheduling their stuff, it's not Nintendo, a company working on the other side of the planet, will do it; especially with TGS coming up.

Because Nintendo has the option of delaying the announcements for a more optimal time, which Disney realistically doesn’t?

It’s not, like, Nintendo deciding it would be disrespectful to talk about their games. It’s just business. The week the Queen dies is probably not the best time to announce new products if you can possibly avoid it. I would think that is obvious, but apparently it’s not.

I mean, I didn't expect the Queen to call it a day right before the supposed Direct in, like, August when rumours started to ramp up.
 
Honestly between marketing agreements with third-parties and a potentially tight reveal to release window for Metroid Prime HD (among other things), I'm not sure if Nintendo will move things around. It's not the best time for a Direct any more, but their options might be limited.

It's not even 5 am yet in Japan, so no decision will have been made yet, anyway.
 
To be fair I don’t think NCL cares much for events that don’t directly harm Japan or the world (i.e. COVID and the 2018 quake) I guess it just depends on how big of a deal the queen’s death is treated as in Japan, like, TPCi had no problem still airing a Presents when a war was started, they just didn’t promote it much outside of Japan. We’ll see what happens, I still think we get it next week
 
When putting a contract in place, there are generally always exceptions in the event of unforeseen circumstances, "acts of God", etc. as a "CYA". I have to do that whenever I photograph weddings, because life is unpredictable. With many of these companies being international, I think that this would likely be covered in case they had to delay third-party announcements.

I am Canadian and I have no idea what sackcloth and ashes is lolol never even heard the term sackcloth before.

Tbh I don't see this news in Canada being more than just a day of news coverage for the death and a day coverage for the funeral. Maybe Trudeau does a speech or ceremony?? If anything really. Tbh the saddest thing for me is that now we will have Charles face on our money lol
