Lol Don’t think Nintendo would do that anymore. Now that I think about it, it’s pretty impressive they were technically giving The Zelda Collector’s Edition on GameCube for free.
I think it really depends on when Nintendo realistically expects BOTW2. If they are expecting another delay I could see Wind Waker releasing this year, Twilight Princess early 2023 and then BOTW2 holiday 2023 or later. If they expect BOTW2 in Spring like they said, I don't think it's too unrealistic for a double pack to release this year.

I’ve really learned a lot about how to appreciate Directs more since February of 2021.

Back in 2019 and prior, I was one of those people who expect every announcement to be tailored to my personal tastes. If I “only” got two or three announcements that excited me, I’d consider it a crappy Direct. I remember updates on previously announced games didn’t “count” in my mind towards the quality of the presentation, even if those games interested me. In essence, I needed tons and tons of new reveals that I personally enjoyed every time, or I’d get all pissy that it was a “crappy” Direct.

Since General Directs returned after their hiatus in 2020, I’ve really grown a lot in regards to how I feel about them. I look at updates on games as exciting… I see reveals for franchises that haven’t yet interested me as exciting new opportunities for games I might enjoy… and I love those new announcements that feel tailor-made to my liking as truly special occasions. It’s made watching Directs way more fun.

Now sure, there are some old Directs that I would still say are pretty trash. The E3 2015 presentation comes to mind (and yes, I know it’s because they were holding back for Switch, but the point still stands that the presentation itself was not a good one).

But I’ve gone from being disappointed by almost every Direct I watch… to being super excited to enjoying much more of what I see in them.

Directs are more fun than ever to me, for that reason alone. And I think a lot of it has to do with growing up.

Don't know if it was posted here yet, but as we all probably expected the Mario movie is called "Super Mario Bros."
Since Miyamoto thought announcing the cast in the Direct was a good idea, maybe a trailer could be featured as well?

My guesses for first party reveals:

September 2022 Direct:
Fire Emblem (March 2023)
Metroid Prime HD (December 2022)
Metroid Prime 4 tease (no date)

LoZ Specific Direct (December 2022)
Wind Waker (February 2023)
Twilight Princess (May 2023)
Breath of the Wild 2 (June 2023)

February 2023 Direct:
Jet Dragon (July 2023)
Partners In Time remake (April 2023)
Donkey Kong (no date)

E3 2023:
GoodFeel new IP (September 2023)
Fire Emblem Genealogy (December 2023)
Donkey Kong Full Reveal (October)
Metroid Prime 4 full reveal (november)

So the full schedule should look like this:
January: nothing
February: Wind Waker HD
March: New Fire Emblem
April: Partners in Time 3D
May: Twilight Princess (also a mega collection of WW, TP and SS)
June: Breath of the Wild 2
July: Jet Dragon
August: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon SV
September: Goodfeel game
October: Donkey Kong, Pokémon SV expansion pack
November: Metroid Prime 4
December Fire Emblem Genealogy

2024 should have Astral Chain 2, Forbidden Land 2, Pikmin 4, Mario Odyssey 2 (wouldn't be surprise if this is the first Nintendo exclusive for Drake).

I too thought it was a bad Direct if it didn't go with my tastes, but since they returned after 2020 I ain't taking them for granted anymore. I embrace and enjoy each announcement as they come.

But as you also mentioned, yes there are just "bad" Directs as well.

My favorite parts of the Directs used to be the goofy skits Treehouse and Reggie would put on, and the in-depth developer diary videos they'd do, like the one dev (forgot her name) making all the yarn Yoshis and the video with Miyamoto touring the temple for StarFox.

If I judged Directs as crappy for not having the stuff I like, then.. well, I'd be in trouble these days. LOL

There's of course been a lot of debate about how close to BOTW2 both WWHD and TPHD would release, and while I could see WWHD's February date happening, TPHD's May release is waaaay too close.

Also don't give me dreams about that sweet sweet WW/TP/SS triple pack..

I even thought Nintendo could pull a Ubisoft move and include one of WW or TP in the DLC pass of BotW2 for free.

After all the time people have been asking for TPHD and WWHD ports, and the possibility to capitalize on both ports to fill gaps/droughts and gain easy money, I honestly doubt Nintendo to waste them releasing a month or two prior to BotW2.

Even more when at that time they are going to be in full marketing mode for the next big Zelda game, the sequel to most successful game in the franchise.

Metroid and DK fans will put their animosity behind them and unite in this direct.
If EPD Tokyo DK and Metroid Re-Prime + 4 both have an awesome showcase, then it would truly be the start of a golden age. Just bring in StarFox and Golden Sun too, and bring balance to the Force, why don't you~?

How are we all feeling on the chances of something tangible about Metroid Prime 4 (as in, more than just words that it's still in development) showing up in this Direct?

What I meant was when you were saying you’d get Twilight Princess for free. I think now I misunderstood the post and you were talking about it being a double-pack like you’re saying here. So technically yeah, it would be like getting one for free if it was $60 for both.

This will be a good movie for me to introduce my kid to the Mario universe. Should be a fun time when it’s released.

He's been saying VJ collection is happening since 2018 lol, and even said back then that VJ3 was happening.

Nah. Eventually it'll happen since Capcom is always bringing back collections of their old games. But Liam is not reliable.

Yo! I wanted to address this because I have received multiple messages about it now. I never said anything of the sort. I don't know where you get off spreading this around. Point me to where I said VJ3 was happening - you can't because it didn't happen.

I have been very consistent in what I've said about Viewtiful Joe. I never said anything about a collection or a VJ3 or anything like that. I made a video for Did You Know Gaming in which I discussed how Kamiya wanted to do a VJ3 with Capcom but the idea never went anywhere because Capcom was more interested in Okami. They were in talks to do Okami 2 and then it didn't go anywhere for various political reasons. That happened in 2016 and I was very clear about that. Beyond that, I can't recall ever saying anything about it.

If MP1R is there, MP4 has got to show up in some form. Tease, full trailer, logo & title reveal, you name it. They wouldn't just reveal an overpriced remaster and call it a day.

Ayy we’re at the “name dropped on Twitter by popular accounts” stage! Lol

Edit: lol damn beat by two posts by source

So if the Zelda WW HD & Zelda TP HD are really coming to Switch... what kind changes or QOL improvement could they add or will id be a 1 to port of the wiiu version?
I think they will be straight ports of the Wii U versions minus gamepad and Miiverse features.

While Skyward Sword was 60 FPS it also had fewer visual changes than TPHD and especially WWHD.
I don't think it's a question of whether or not the Switch can run these games at 60 FPS, but whether or not they are willing to invest that much time and effort when these remasters are basically done already. Especially when these are speculated to release as a double pack.

My headcanon is that they especially focused on achieving 60 FPS on Skyward Sword to improve the fluidity of the 1:1 motion controls. Arguably, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess don't need that.

If they give us 60 FPS for even one of those games, it'd be a pleasant surprise.

Something interesting and relative easy to guess; its clearly Nintendo tried to pushed hard to get most Game Awards GOTY winner titles on Switch. Thats common sense though as they are considered the best titles of each year and of whole generation. Here is a little breakdown of the winner of each year in bold + nominees, * are titles available on Switch and in italic are games from Sony or Microsoft

  • 2014: Dragon Age Inquisition, Bayonetta 2*, Dark Souls 2, Hearthstone, Middle Earth Shadow War
  • 2015: Witcher 3*, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, Metal Gear Solid V, Super Mario Maker*
  • 2016: Overwatch*, Doom*, Inside*, Titanfall 2, Uncharted 4
  • 2017: Zelda BOTW*, Persona 5*, Horizon Zero Dawn, Super Mario Odyssey*, PUBG
  • 2018: God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2, Assasins Creed Odyssey, Celeste*, Spiderman, Monster Hunter World
  • 2019: Sekiro, Outer Worlds*, Resident Evil 2, Control*, Smash Ultimate, Death Stranding
  • 2020: Last of Us Part 2, Doom Eternal*, Animal Crossing New Horizons*, Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 1, Hades*, Ghost of Tsushima
  • 2021: It Takes Two, Resident Evil Village, Deathloop, Metroid Dread*, Psychonauts 2, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart

I feel it would be very natural if next pushed for Switch from japanese third parties would be to get the rest of From Software titles (Dark Souls 2/3, Sekiro and Elder Ring that surely is winning GOTY2022) and current gen RE games (VII, 2R, 3R, Village and 4R if its possible), even if most of those one would need to be release only on next Switch HW (although I think DS2/3 and even Sekiro are possible on actual Switch…). I would add getting all MGS titles are its also another iconic japanese IP, all snake games runs on gen 7 hardware, so there shouldn’t be any issue.

And for western support, I believe the rumors of RDR2 heading to a nintendo machine very soon and nintendo will advertise hard that. Moreover, I feel that it’s possible to get a new wave of EA ports, including It Takes Two, rumoured to be announce soon, Mass Effect Legendary Collection and ports of Dragon Age titles.

Yooooo Liam’s here! Hello! Nice to see ya! :)

This actually leads me to a pretty interesting thought that I’ve had for a while. As of the Switch era’s beginning, Nintendo is dropping their “fun”, “personal”, and “child-like” vibes in favour of being clean, classy, and professional.

It’s why they stopped Dev Diaries and skits in Directs. It’s why the style of Directs has visually changed so much to be much more consistent. It’s affected how they announce things, like in Directs and Twitter drops.

This factor would also explain some factors that fans do NOT like.

It’s why the Switch Home UI is so basic. It’s why there’s no eShop theme music or themes for the Home Menu. I’m not defending Nintendo here or saying that this is the right decision… rather, I’m explaining why I think they’re doing it.

They found that with the failure of the Wii U that their sense of “child-like wonder” is the wrong approach to making sales. Nintendo needed to “grow up”.

(Note that when I say “grow up” I am NOT referring to software development, just their overall image as a company.)

Nintendo needed to grow out of their “fun” style in favour of an “adult” one. People are always bugging Nintendo for themes on the Home Menu… I don’t think they’re ever coming. If this theory is true, it doesn’t align with the clean, concise, professional image that the company is attempting to portray. Having a console with all sorts of Mario, Zelda, or whatever else littered all over the UI isn’t the look Nintendo wants for themselves anymore.

Nintendo felt the need to become an “adult” company, and stopped treating their systems like what they saw as toys.

I’m not saying this is a good or bad thing. I can see both sides. I love their new presentation style in clean, concise, hype-worthy Directs. But I don’t like the lack of themes or eShop music.

But I think it truly is all connected, and it’s all in the image Nintendo wants to present themselves in.

are you also on famiboards??? I discover new things every day here definitely 😂

one of these days I need to have a poll about whether you prefer the old or new style of nintendo direct

personally I despise headlines and the thirty second ad style trailers of modern directs

has a nintendo direct ever leaked entirely?

images

This is the only time the contents of an all-digital event has leaked in this nature. Other Direct adjacent leaks of this scale have only happened due to the nature of physical events; the Mario Maker leak before E3 2014, the January 2017 Switch presentation leak, the game logo banners and Smash info leaked before E3 2018; all from staff involved in the preparation and setup.

My guesses for first party reveals:

September 2022 Direct:
Fire Emblem (March 2023)
Metroid Prime HD (December 2022)
Metroid Prime 4 tease (no date)

LoZ Specific Direct (December 2022)
Wind Waker (February 2023)
Twilight Princess (May 2023)
Breath of the Wild 2 (June 2023)

February 2023 Direct:
Jet Dragon (July 2023)
Partners In Time remake (April 2023)
Donkey Kong (no date)

E3 2023:
GoodFeel new IP (September 2023)
Fire Emblem Genealogy (December 2023)
Donkey Kong Full Reveal (October)
Metroid Prime 4 full reveal (november)

So the full schedule should look like this:
January: nothing
February: Wind Waker HD
March: New Fire Emblem
April: Partners in Time 3D
May: Twilight Princess (also a mega collection of WW, TP and SS)
June: Breath of the Wild 2
July: Jet Dragon
August: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon SV
September: Goodfeel game
October: Donkey Kong, Pokémon SV expansion pack
November: Metroid Prime 4
December Fire Emblem Genealogy

2024 should have Astral Chain 2, Forbidden Land 2, Pikmin 4, Mario Odyssey 2 (wouldn't be surprise if this is the first Nintendo exclusive for Drake).
My guess:
WW and TP: December
MPHD: January
F-Zero GXHD: February
Zelda BotW 2: March
New FE: April
RE Revelations 3: May
New DK 2D: June
New Mario 2D, New Star Fox, Kid Icarus HD, Pikmin 4: 2023 2nd half
MP4 and FE Genealogy: 2024

I can totally see them yet again just saying it's still in development and leaving it at that, perhaps even asking us to wait "a little longer" to see it.

But I would lose my shit like never before if we get even the tiniest tease.
