I think fe is at a point where it could legit step over other jrpgs so it needs some more planning.

By jrpg standards its what, the fourth best selling?
Certainly in top 10. I guess Pokémon, FF, DQ are the biggest. Would assume Kingdom Hearts Probably has more sales and maybe the Mario RPGs, but those are shifting away from RPG elements or have no studio to make them.

In a consistent sense via constant releases as of now? Top 8 at least. The series only started to really take off after Nintendo for once properly marketed the series with Awakening so it's not that high. Looking at sales in general, it's not even listed in the top 10. It's basically a late bloomer series.

So, I’ve been reading a lot about how Nintendo execs may be among us in this very forum.

I feel the need to prove to you all that I am trustworthy, and not a member of Nintendo’s team.

As such, expect a formal Switchum face reveal in two to five minutes.

Edit: will be posting the face reveal in fifteen minutes, actually. Little bit nervous, and want to get a photo of me looking my best.

Says will do a face reveal in two minutes, then 5 minutes, then 15 minutes. Keeping on pushing back the release day is something a Nintendo employee would totally do.

I mean if this is all you need, lol

I just really want to gain some trust

Once you have seen my face, you will know that I am indisputably not connected to Nintendo in any way.

I've been wondering what the deal going forward is for 3DAS. If Drake is being positioned as a "Switch" and there are people that waited to jump on until now are they just shit out of luck?

Based on what we've heard recently it doesn't seem like Nintendo would want to sell individual GC/Wii games without extra work done too.

I am legit cackling right now

I swear if you're following the buildup and this statement with a picture of a hedgehog I will ascend

As funny as that would be, I’m turning over a new leaf of honesty and self-reflection.

You will see the real Switchum in six minutes.

Well that's a hard metric to judge. Obviously it's behind Pokemon, FF, DQ, and probably Kingdom Hearts, so it's at least in 5th place I'd say. Maybe 6th going by singular game sales since I think Three Houses sold less than Persona 5 (maybe only when counting R though).

But it's definitely one of the most consistently well-selling JRPG series and the team is probably fully aware of that, which would line up with how the next entry is supposedly fairly ambitious.

I'm sure Nintendo will resell the games again at some point in the future but physical copies of 3D All-Stars are pretty easy to find and they at least or below the normal $60 price. It sold 9 million copies and while not all of them were physical, that still means that there are more physical copies floating around than most other games out there.

Yes.

It was a FOMO thing.

That said the games could appear later, I just wouldn’t expect the 3DAS exact packaging.

It’s taking a lot for me to step outside of my comfort zone and share a pic of my face to an Internet forum.

I just want you all to know you can always confide in me, and hopefully make you feel more secure that I am a trustworthy, anti-“ninja” kind of fellow:

Wikipedia has a list of the most profitable as a whole series, but to me it's probably more useful to look at how the most recent entry or two has done. Or at least that's a fun thing to look into IMO!

Off the top of my head (with some wiki diving to confirm numbers, which are rough numbers based on what I could find quickly) and going by most recent mainline entries (some of these like FF7R + Intergrade/Persona 5+Royal/DQ11 + DQ11S include multiple versions (and Pokemon obviously)):

#1 Pokemon: is in its own league with its 25+ million sellers (Sword and Shield most recently), even Arceus and BDSP are over 12 million
#2 Final Fantasy: 15 sold over 10 million, and FF7R is harder to pin down but is at like 7-8 million?
#3 Kingdom Hearts: KH3 sold over 6.7 million
#4 Dragon Quest: 11 sold over 6.5 million
#5 Persona: P5 sold over 5 million
#6 Fire Emblem: Three Houses sold over 3.84 million
#7 Paper Mario: Origami King is maybe iffy as a JRPG but sold 3.34 million
#8 Octopath Traveler: Sold over 2.5 million (I love that this is #8)
#9 Xenoblade: XC2 sold over 2.4 million, too early to judge XC3
#10 Tales: Tales of Arise sold over 2 million

Obviously this list is very rough, with minimal research, and only based on recent games and not whole series. It also doesn't include some things that would be way up in the list that are iffy as JRPGs in my mind but you can add them in there too: Elden Ring has sold a bajillion (over 16.6 million) copies, Nier Automata is at 6.5 million, Monster Hunter Rise has sold over 10.3 million.

So if you include those three, Fire Emblem is #9, but either way it's Top 10.

Yes.

It was a "we developed this emulator and want to pay off the R&D quickly, while still keeping our options open for releasing the same games in another form now that we have the emulator" thing. Not FOMO. If they wanted to maximize their profit off selling 3DAS, they would have kept selling it, and it would probably be at 10+ million right now, because Nintendo's bread and butter is selling evergreen titles.

If you think the strategy was FOMO, that would mean you believe (or think that Nintendo believes) it would have sold less if it hadn't been limited, which is ridiculous.

Maybe it is ridiculous, but it might be the case! Here there's a developer who claims Nintendo believes these re-releases of legacy titles aren't big sellers, and used the limited release strategy to drive sales.

It would also explain why a similar strategy was used for the localized Switch release of the original Fire Emblem.

Edit: Thought this was the First Party thread. Whoops

I think Fire Emblem is a lock. It's literally perfect Direct to reveal it, February might be too late. It should be the opener just like Three Hopes opened the Feb 2021 one.

We still don't know if a F-Zero game exists, all we have is a playful tease from Nate. No other proof or elaborate rumor.

Thats exactly why I think it wont open the direct, dont think Nintendo want to go there. Having the same franchise open two directs in a row.. I think only the Zeldas or Marios could pull something like that honestly.

I think it feels like a middle of the direct kind of thing, or possibly like a second to last reveal like the Astral Chain / Link's Awakening

But I'm very much with you on the game getting revealed this upcoming direct.

Speaking of Nintendo and remasters, remember earlier this year when the Nightdive Studios guy mentioned on Twitter they were talking to Nintendo about remastering their games? (think Eternal Darkness was one)

Could they have been given the green light to do one/multiple or would they be basically blacklisted for talking about it on Twitter openly?

Also, with EA, did the first Unravel game get rated for Switch a year or so ago?

I apologize for taking so long to respond to everyone. For the record, I do read everyone's posts. Please don't think I'm ignoring you.

You would be extremely surprised to hear which famous Nintendo executives had accounts over at Resetera. I would know this because I approved some of those accounts during my brief 1-year stint as an administrator over there. To protect their privacy, I won't reveal any names or usernames. But the main point is: Nintendo isn't the bubble that people think it is. They do secretly get out there and interact with the fans on the internet.

Over at Era, there were so many instances when Nintendo Era members didn't realize they were arguing with famous Nintendo senior producers. Cerium and I would see Nintendo fans telling a senior Japanese Nintendo executive: "You're an idiot. You don't know what you're talking about"... Because they didn't know the user worked at Nintendo. 😬
Me reading your reply:

/s

But no seriously, that's crazy. I thought it was only Sakurai who was in tune with what the community thinks!

EA is done making Switch games when I say they're done
AKA when they release a Burnout Classics Collection with all the pre-Paradise games

This is fantastic. Really

Most hilarious thing would be that an exec was actually one of those infamous Nintendo Era members banned permanently for constant inflammatory and troll comments lol
“These fools didn’t know about me personally thwarting the agenda of 2D Loyalists.

Shame I couldn’t make the sale of Kirby to Microsoft happen though”

If EA starts to remaster PS2 era games, SSX should be top priority. In fact, it should be a top priority of ALL EA games.

He said it's cancelled because Aonuma didn't like how people on Fami were talking about his haircuts.
Fun fact, he actually hated his last haircut (he cut them too short) but everyone here kept saying he looked fresh and he thought we where trolling and that's why botw2 is delayed to 2024
