After seeing some of the LOTR stuff on here, Rings of Power is pretty good.

Also, the production quality is phenomenal.

I cant believe I argued with Miyamoto on my western video game forum

"ohh raccoon fake pikmin fan!!"

I'd rather be a fake fan than a c*ber

Looks at the prices of how much my black label day 1 copies of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Thousand Year Door, and the Pokemon games go for

Yeah I'll stick to being a Cuber. Plus the best version to play Pikmin 1 and 2 were on the Wii!

So what are we looking at here so far for the direct (potentially)?

-Twilight Princess
-The Wind Waker
-Metroid Prime
-It Takes Two
-Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition
We need a good opener and closer. Something big for each. My guesses are:

  • Fire Emblem for the opener. Both story and gameplay trailers.
  • Metroid Prime and MP4 teaser for the closer. MP4 just a small peek with a tiny bit of gameplay, ends with a August 2023 date.

I think Zelda announcements will be at a Zelda specific Direct later this year.

I’m sure I already pissed off a Nintendo executive on Era, because it’s been two years since I was last able to use credit cards on Nintendo eShop, it doesn’t matter which country my profile is on.

Whatever I said was very offensive if they think it’s worth it to deny my money :/

Oh shit I finally saw Emily's post and now know why everyone was talking about execs having secret Era accounts lol

On a side note, I gave that post it's 100th Yeah! Well done, me. And Emily/The Site for being able to generate 100 Yeah!s on a single post... but mostly well done, me.

Major Zelda Rumor [Beware of possible spoilers]:

So I am hearing that the reason Nintendo held off on those Zelda HD remakes was because they wanted to launch both of them before the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild TM.

Evidently the reason why the sequel is taking so long to develop is that it is by far not only Nintendo's most ambitious game to date but one of the most ambitious games period.

In the game, time will play a massive role in the game that far exceeds expectations. You will be able to jump through time to control each of the heroes in previous Zelda games. This includes Link from: Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and finally Breath of the Wild. There may be hints of other Zelda titles as well but these are the five heroes you will be playing as.

The hand you receive in the game will allow you to travel through time to play as different Link's and the world will change to reflect this. For example, when playing as Ocarina of Time Link, you will see stable Ocarina of Time locations and characters. Reimagined of course to fit the larger open world environments.

The idea is that all the Link's across time have to come together to defeat Ganon for good. Zelda will have a role as well in all of this and you will see her various incarnations as well.

We have seen Skyward Sword Link and BOTW Link so far in the last footage. Leftwing are in the game when playing as Skyward Sword Link in the sky realm.

Nintendo wants fans to play through previous Zelda entries before tackling the new game so they have a complete understanding of the background and lore details when playing BOTW 2.

The name hasn't been unveiled yet because it basically reveals the spoiler of playing as multiple Links.

The game will be loaded with content from underground caverns, water temples, etc to sky cities like Skyloft. Fishing is said to be back complete with a boat. Game has a visual upgrade since the last preview. The guy wondered if we were seeing a Switch 4K version. Said it looked really good and would be surprised if he was only seeing the regular Switch version. Says people aren't prepared for how ambitious and damn awesome this game is going to be.

I made all of this up. Happy Friday everyone! Two more weeks! 😄

What will the Metroid Prime remake officially be called?

I'm going with the tried and true Metroid Prime HD.
I don't think it can be "HD." Here's what we have to go on:
  • Same name: Direct port with some added content
  • - OR - ground-up remake
    • Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
    • Link's Awakening
  • Deluxe: Direct port with previous DLC included
    • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Pokkén Tournament DX
  • HD: Previous-generation port with remastered graphics
    • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD
  • Definitive Edition: Previous-generation port with remade graphics
    • Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition
  • Others
    • Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
I left out Hyrule Warriors because it had a weird thing going on with the 3DS version and different titles in different regions. In Japan the Switch version was called (the equivalent of) Hyrule Warriors Legends DX, which is appropriate since it had all the content of the 3DS version (Legends) which included DLC from the original version. For some reason, it was called Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition in other regions.

XBCDE is the closest Switch release to what's expected of Metroid Prime, although I don't think Nintendo is necessarily going to stick with "Definitive Edition" just because XBCDE used it. But the other titles like Deluxe and HD have been used pretty consistently, and I don't think they'll apply either of those to Prime.

They could go with an "Anniversary Edition"-type name, although I think that might still undersell the package, and it would also present an issue when it comes to the timing and naming of potential Switch releases for Echoes and Corruption.

Especially if they're planning to do the other two games, it might be better to give them a unique name. "Origins" doesn't really do it for me, but maybe something like the MGS rereleases where they change the subtitle to something related (and add a new one to Prime 1). This is also similar to FE Echoes, where "Echoes" is a cooler way of saying "Gaiden" (side story) and the "Shadows of Valentia" subtitle was a new addition.

Finally, there's the possibility that they don't rename them at all.

The true galaxy brain answer is that it will be called Metroid Prime + Bowser's Fury.

Let's try to have a nice, calm long weekend. It's not like anything can happen until Tuesday.

There's one thing that I'm sad that we won't see yet, and that is what will come from the Embracer/Squenix deal. That just barely went through, so the Switch won't see any of the games from it yet. I know Embracer is trying to put everything they can on the system, and that's awesome, but I don't think we will see much more for a little while. I also think that when Drake is out they will start doing even more ports for Nintendo.

To go further, I have this feeling that a lot of devs right now are just waiting for Drake, then they will show their hand. I don't think it will be this flash flood of new games from devs that didn't support the Switch that much to begin with, but I do think that some games that would never, or could never, make it to Switch will come to Drake, and once it's announced, those games that were just waiting for it to be official will appear. Here's hoping anyway.

I think F-Zero would be a good opener, if they're willing to give the game a spotlight as a long missing big Nintendo franchise, like they did with Dread.

So this is obviously all a goof but it did get me thinking: Aonuma did say "the expanded world goes beyond that" in regards to the sky in BOTW2, which they introduced after showing Skyward Sword HD. Most people assume this means underground or maybe underwater and that's likely the case, but if they did want to go absolutely nuts and do an absolute ton of work, it would be very neat to have elements from each previous Zelda introduced to the world of BOTW2. Not sure how it could be integrated exactly but it would be cool to have a "great sea area," "twilight realm area," "termina topsy-turvy world area" etc. None of that would really make any sense "lore wise" in any way I could think of but could be really cool to see things like the twilight realm realized in BOTW's artstyle.

It would kinda explain why we don’t see floating islands in certain shots. And it would be a super cool way to integrate the existing map without being boring (not that there are other ways of course but still). Oh no now I really want this to happen.

Yeah and it would be a super cool way to integrate the existing map without being boring. Oh shit now I really want this to happen.
Honestly even if they didn't want to go this far, just doing something akin to a full dark world like LttP or time travel on the whole world like OOT would be an absolute ton of work far beyond just the sky islands and (presumably) underground areas.

I think F-Zero would be a good opener, if they're willing to give the game a spotlight as a long missing big Nintendo franchise, like they did with Dread.
I think Fire Emblem is a lock. It's literally perfect Direct to reveal it, February might be too late. It should be the opener just like Three Hopes opened the Feb 2021 one.

We still don't know if a F-Zero game exists, all we have is a playful tease from Nate. No other proof or elaborate rumor.

That's good to know!

Also, somewhat related, but if you want a good one-hand game then Vampire Survivors on Steam is perfect for that. It's a Roguelite where literally all you have to do is position yourself well and choose the right upgrades as you defeat enemies. All attacking is done automatically, and the only controls are movement and 'select.' It's also like $3, and can run on most everything.

Yeah it's fully working on Steam Deck, and was actually in the Top 10 for most played games on the system. I haven't played it on one myself, but there should be absolutely no issue playing it on the device.

Just imagine telling Kartina 2002 that there would be a remake of Metroid Prime in 20 years

The laptop dying, being my third one, was why I wanted a steam deck to begin with when it died . I’ll check it out when I get my deck hopefully this month. Thanks for the recommendation

I don’t think the Zelda remasters getting the HD title preclude Metroid Prime from getting it either. Too small of a sample size.

Not necessarily saying that HD will be the title, just that there isn’t really enough of a pattern to make an informed prediction on what it will be.

I noticed Nintendo doesn't seem to like the word "remake."

I remember it felt like they went out of their way to not call Link's Awakening a remake.

It's that plus the fact that they chose not to use it for XBCDE, which Prime is said to be much closer to than the Zelda releases were. I mean, would you say it's a possibility they call it Metroid Prime Deluxe? In a "never say never" sense, sure.

If they actually develop additional content for the game that isn't just skins, I'll eat my shoes.
What could they add? Metroid Prime is already perfect.

But for real, it's not like it was a game that had some untold chapter of the story or events that need expanding on.
