If Halo was/still is in consideration for Switch, I sincerely hope it was just MCC or even just the first title, because woof
One of my last few posts for the days. I’ve given up on infinite for the year. Once my hand gets better, I’m moving onto splatoon 3 since it works with my wifi and fall guys

For the handful of games I've played of Infinite since Season 2 started...yeah, it's for the best. Maybe they'll actually get on track by 2024, maybe 2023 if they're lucky and Poseidon takes mercy on those poor mariners

TTYD is a curious case because it follows a design philosophy that is apparently now not allowed at Nintendo. We know they don't have a problem making games like that available again as long as they're emulated in their original form, I guess we will find out soon if they're okay with rereleasing them too, since that would be essentially like releasing a new game.

I will likely won’t play anything for a while. Hand issue has escalated since we last spoke. It’s in a good bit of pain now.

I’m thankful splatoon 3 works on my wifi so I can enjoy a splatoon game for. A change but not on launch day right now

I've missed so much due to a stressful day at work :'-( I see that Emily apparently chimed in to say there will be lots of remasters/remakes in the works at Nintendo. Has there been any word if there's some legitimacy to the whole Kid Icarus thing? It's a top 5 game of all time for me and I need it.
Kid Icarus claims came from Zippo, so take it with a heap of salt. That being said, the hiring call Bandai-Namco put out for a Nintendo remaster sure as hell sounded like it could be Kid Icarus Uprising, and BN have spent the better part of a decade working with Sakurai at Nintendo's behest.

In a world where Famicom Detective Club gets an internationally released remake, Kid Icarus Uprising may well get another lease of life.
Random thought: will Nintendo repackage the NES NSO controller with a GB skin?

Also, a GBA NSO controller without the screen in the middle would look weird.
I'd love GBA Joycons with a proper d-pad. Give it to me in purple, which Nintendo decide was the next-gen colour in 2001.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but are you saying that Breath of the Wild 2 will not be an open world title?

If so, I completely disagree. It’s a direct sequel to the original BotW, which became so well-renowned due to its perfection of the open-world format. If Nintendo wanted to make a linear 3D Zelda next, they would not have branded it as the “sequel to Breath of the Wild”… it would be a standalone title like Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, or Skyward Sword.

It’s not at all unreasonable to assume that BoTW2 will be primarily an open-world title. Sure, maybe there will be linear sections or elements like dungeons or the sky islands, but I fully believe Nintendo would not make a mistake as ridiculous as following up one of their most successful games of all time with a so-called “sequel” that changes the genre.

edit: unless I’m a stupid dumb-dumb and totally misunderstood what you were saying, in which case I apologize.
Of course it won't be open-world, it's an open-air game. (/s)

But from the footage we saw it's very clear it's an open world game, at least that's how I see it

Nintendo kept seeing people make fun of their "open air" term so now they're like "we'll show them 👊"

Wondering how the dual screen from Kid Icarus would work on Switch. The dialogues and characters' faces from the lower screen were too good to be lost.
Probably just going to be at the bottom of the screen like Star Fox.

Let's all play which FPS is likely to arrive on Switch first; Halo, GoldenEye, or TimeSplitters?
Is Halo even still going to come to Switch? The other two at least will eventually.

Ah shit, I'm sorry to hear that man. Hopefully it all clears up soon, but at least with Splatoon it should be a healthy community that even if you do hop in later it shouldn't immediately escalate into higher level gameplay mechanics.

Shame because the campaign is pretty great. My favorite Halo in a while.
I've heard many good things similar to that sentiment as well. I want to remain neutral that they might take splitscreen co-op seriously for the next campaign that gets released if this really is a 10+ year platform, but yeah I can't imagine they're expecting pre-orders to be skyhigh in any capacity

GoldenEye is literally leaked. Should be pretty soon.

That said. It wouldn't surprise me to see Call of Duty in some form in the upcoming Direct.
Honestly that's a good point too; truthfully I'd sooner expect CoD to show up on Switch than any of the others (which is a shame because honestly of the four CoD I actively dislike 😋)

I think last time Nate or any other insider referenced Halo on Switch said it pretty much stalled and nothing's been heard about the project for over a year now, maybe two.

That being said, I still want to hold on hope because I still feel the kind of hype from Halo on a Nintendo platform would cause a cultural reset.

The most exciting things about all these remakes news is that Nintendo is often using them to groom a new development team.

Best example is definitely MS who did Samus Returns in 2017 and were able to finally deliver Metroid 5 in 2021.

For a lot of dormant IPs, that means their best shot at being sustainable and a mainstay, in quite some time.

Maybe there will be renewed effort with the Drake, but it sounds like 343 has more urgent priorities right now (even though it wouldn't be them doing the port, presumably).

given that they just scrapped split screen co-op after five years of promising it, any plans of bringing MCC to Switch must have been scraped long, long ago lol

Hopefully Nintendo gave WayForward more work after Advance Wars was finished.

Do you really like old Paper Mario and wish they’d make more of it?

Of COURSE you do!

Well I’ve been following this persons development for a year or two now, of their PM-inspired game The Outbound Ghost!

Thought Fami might like to see it :) I’ll be getting it for sure

How we feelin' about a Prime 4 tease along with the announcement of the Prime 1 remaster?
No
I'd be pretty happily surprised if Prime 4 was 2023. Seems like 2024 to me based on the fact that they restarted in early 2019, they had to hire a bunch of new positions for it, and their attention has also (supposedly) been split a bit with the Prime 1 remake/remaster. Plus covid in the mix? I mean it's taking Nintendo 6 years to make a sequel to BOTW that is being built entirely on the foundation of the first game. Game dev cycles for AAA are just super long now.
Agreed. We will know by early 2023 if its releasing that year. But my bets are may to july of 2024.

Like @9-Volt said, it would have been Saber's project to port the game, but seeing as their other projects are currently MIA, who knows where the hold up lays

I'd guess the same way that Star Fox shows its dialogue. Just something in the bottom half.

With the grapple hook, 343 accidentally made the 3rd best Spider-Man game of all time.

I'm just waiting for the custom matches to get an update allowing for infinite use of equipment like grappleshots; my friends and I want to zip around playing Attack On Titan with lots of grappleshots and infinite sword ammo haha

Famiboards reaction after the Direct:

"Hey Phil, you see that there new Nintendo Direct?! They're back the classic! F-Zero. Metroid Prime. The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. I'm excited about those last two. Classic Zelda games just how I like em. They got them new Breath of the Wild errr whatever with the climbing and gliding. It's all too much. What happen to the days of just riding a boat or a wolf?! Now that...that's an adventure"

"I hear you Bob. I played that new fangle Kirby game. IT 3D! FRICKING 3D! I'm telling you...KIRBY SHOULD BE 2D! Why they gotta mess with the formula?! But let me tell, I was glad to see Nintendo bring back Kirby Air Ride. Now that takes me back. Reminds me of when I met my wife. Ohhh...we were high school sweetheart. She's come over and we'd play for hours. It was perfect for her since you don't even need to press anything to move. You're just move automatically. IT BASICALLY PLAYS ITSELF! Now that, that's good game design.

"Oh, I'm really hoping they bring back Custom Robo. I do love me Custom Robo. When I was in middle school, I'd go over to a friends house, who was the only one in the neighborhood to actually own Custom Robo. And he would ask "Hey, you guys want to play some Custom Robo" and we'd "Sure, let's play" and we'd play it for maybe 20 minutes before the rest of realize that his game is fucking TERRIBLE! And we'd get into an argument with my friend who would insist that the game is actually good. We'd go back and forth until eventually just deciding to play Super Smash Bros Melee again"

"Speaking of fighting, they should put Soul Calibur II on the Switch! I loved that game. I wasn't good at it and I didn't particularly enjoy the gameplay but it had Link in it! That's the only reason why I asked my mom to get it! In fact I got all them Nintendo cross overs! Not a fan of basketball or dancing but I got those NBA Street and DDR games anyways just to see Mario in them. You knew they had to be good if they had Mario in it"

"The one thing missing from that Direct...Geist! Now that's an underrated shooter classic. You could possess a dog and look at girls in the shower. Underappreciated for its time. Better than Halo I say! Just like how PN03 was better than Devil May Cry! Best Capcom game by a mile! When you going to port that over Capcom?!"

"Everything was better on Gamecube! The best console ever! You didn't need online because Gamecube owners had friends in real life! They don't make them like they used to and I'm glad these young ones get to experience the golden age of videogaming!"

My personal wishlist for Gamecube remakes:

- Metroid Prime
- Timesplitters 2 / Future Perfect
- Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door
- Wind Waker
- Twilight Princess
Based list. Just needs Prime 2, Pokemon Colosseum, Air Ride, Eternal Darkness, Geist, Battalion Wars and Billy Hatcher.

... Fuck it just remake the GameCube

"Where's StarTropics!?"

Prime 2 and 3 sound like an easy bet of the first one does numbers.

Especially to fill in the space inbetween MP4 and M6 or something.

I think it applies to Star Fox in that it's less being attached to certain levels, but being attached to your first 'whole' playthrough of a story. It's why, in story-based games with 'good' and 'bad' endings, getting the bad ending your first time around often feels worse than if you go out of your way to get it in another playthrough. Because it's not "your first playthrough."

As for the rest, I agree. However, the concept being discussed here is branching paths, not simply replaying the game. NieR: Automata is essentially just 3 linear (with side stuff) campaigns and an epilogue with a bunch of content being shared and added on with every different campaign. You're replaying a fair amount of content, but it's all linear and there's no branching paths throughout.

Personally, and hear me out here lol, I think a game to look at to solve this issue would be Resident Evil 2 (Remake or OG). The game has essentially 4 different 'routes' to go through. LeonA -> ClaireB and Claire A -> Leon B. Choosing to play Leon's campaign first drastically changes the Claire campaign you do afterwards, and vice-versa. In the original, certain things you did in your chosen A route even had an affect in that B route. So, if you opted to sacrifice some ammo in the A route, it would be there to make the B route easier. This could be the equivalent to Star Fox's "Mission Completed vs. Accomplished" thing, with your actions and choices in a level during your A campaign making certain things in the B campaign harder or easier.

In all cases, the first 2 routes you do present a complete and satisfying storyline, running at around 12-14 hours. You're heavily incentivised to do so because, if you don't, you can't even beat the final boss and see the actual ending. However, if you want more, you can choose to pick the character you played second, first, and experience two more similar yet still fairly different campaigns. I think Star Fox could do something really similar and succeed at it if done right.

Sorry for the long post lol
So with Star Fox games and replays I draw the comparison to something like Nier Automata or an Uchikoshi joint in that the different routes are seen as part of a whole playthrough, where people don't get attached to the first route because it's accepted as part of truly "finishing" the game to do all the levels/scenarios. "Go back to this point to do a different thing and get more levels, keep going to the real end" is a distinct thing from "if you say this here you get this ending instead of the other one but otherwise most of this stuff is the same." You could implement that as scenarios from the menu, as a branching path like Star Fox SNES, or do something more like 64, implementation is just a matter of what's better for the context. Two routes is fine if you want longer storylines, you could do more if you want each route to be shorter. Command's flowchart is too visual novelly with the branches within branches because of how non-intuitive it is and how much of a pain it is to replay to actually do all the levels and I think we all agree on that point. The one thing I'd do as a QOL thing is if branching paths are objective-based to make sure it's clear what the objectives are so people don't have to google it

But all your ideas are great and I'd play a Star Fox game with any of them

My elbows, wrists, and hands genuinely are more comfortable with the widespread WiiU gamepad and I really really miss it so I actually would unironically want something like that damn GC keytroller

No lol I was saying Metroid Prime 4 isn't open world, that's why it isn't comparable to BotW2(that one is open world and confirmed to be so).

They remade the first and the third Mario & Luigi games a few years ago (like seriously, the Bowser's Inside Story 3DS remake came out in 2019), so I think older titles that go more off the rails have basically been grandfathered into what is "allowed".
