Things I'd be interested in seeing:
  • Prime HD, just so we can stop talking about its existence.
  • New Fire Emblem, the leak was interesting so I wanna see it.
  • NSO update, I'm hoping we get GB/GBA and a new N64 roadmap.
  • PIKMIN 4.
  • Breath of the Wild 2.

End of September is after TGS so the purpose of revealing games to make showcases would be no use.
Early October is too late to announce Metroid Prime Remake for November.

What can happen if they don't want to be near Apple so badly tho is having a Partner Showcase on a not very usual date before TGS, and having Prime as a Twitter drop.

I still think September 1st Direct is the most likely outcome.

You reminded me of how I was so excited for Metroid Prime's release back in 2002, that on launch day after getting it, I called my friend, and when he answered, I yelled "IT'S PRIME TIME!" then immediately hung up. He messaged me on AIM a minute later like "Joe, you suck."

The thing is that the movie was planned for this Holiday before the delay and they still haven't shown their game in February. But maybe they already knew that the movie will be delayed, so. Or they planned to show it at "E3" before it was cancelled.
 
New EPD Neo Tokyo game

Starring Cyber Kong as he defends Neo DK Island from an onslaught of interdimensional demon Kremlings.

2D Mario doesnt need a long hype cycle or anything, just look at Mario Maker 2. And we kinda already had a holiday Mario game this year. A Mario game close to the movie just makes sense.

Ignoring the leaks (in motion its another story). The reactions for this game are gonna be interesting. Coming of the popularity of 3 houses, the change in art style (I love Atelier style so bring in more Gust), the gimmick (we dont know if its story crucial or side) should divide people and of course the question that been in everyone's mind since Byleth, will the protag talk.

Every single one of these answers will divide people regardless so I think reaction are gonna be juicy lol.

I have no idea where a new DK would fit in. Are folks thinking there's both a 2D DK and 2D Mario in development?

I think based on hiring we have EPD Kyoto making a 2D game and EPD Tokyo making both a 3D and a 3D game. Unless EPD Tokyo and Kyoto 2D game is the same, I think it's likely we're getting 2D Mario by EPD Kyoto, 2D DK and 3D Mario by EPD Tokyo.

Expanding on my previous quickfire predictions from a while ago. Bold predictions are spotlights, the rest are headlines.

  • Metroid Prime HD: Game looks very impressive visually, and now has gyro controls. Releasing December 2nd. Takahashi also confirms that Metroid Prime 2 HD and Metroid Prime 3 HD are in development, with a small teaser for Metroid Prime 2 HD given. We're also reassured that Metroid Prime 4 development is still proceeding smoothly.
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass: Only Merry Mountain and 3DS Rainbow Road are shown off. Release window of November for Wave 3 (will ultimately be November 25th).
  • Tunic: Finally revealed for Switch, and will launch on the eShop alongside other consoles on September 20th.
  • Bayonetta 3: New trailer, alongside a confirmation of the current release date.
  • New Fire Emblem: The leaks were real. Game looks decent enough, although initial reactions aren't all that impressive. Releasing February 10th.
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Showcases the new hero. Releasing in October.
  • Mario Strikers: Battle League: New characters and content added. Shadowdrop.
  • Sonic Frontiers: More footage shown.
  • Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope: New story trailer.
  • Dragon Quest Treasures: Overview trailer.
  • Nintendo Switch Sports: Golf update is shadowdropped. Baseball is revealed as the next sport to be added, with a release window of Winter.
  • Square Enix: Sizzle reel of the upcoming Square Enix games on Switch. The DioField Chronicle, NieR: Automata, Harvestella, and Tactics Ogre: Reborn.
  • Nintendo Switch Online: GameBoy and GameBoy Color games are added to the base service, and GameBoy Advance is added to the Expansion Pack.
  • Everybody's 1-2-Switch: The stinky game has finally arrived. Releasing October 7th, and will be included in the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack. 1-2-Switch is also being added to the Expansion Pack after the direct.
  • Batman: Arkham Collection: Finally revealed. Releasing November 4th.
  • Sizzle Reel: Quick look at other upcoming Switch games. Most importantly is Advance Wars 1+2: Re-boot Camp, with a new window of 2023.
  • Mario Movie: New trailer. Chris Pratt is so cool.
  • The Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: Finally get a full trailer, revealing the main gimmick and title. Releasing March 3rd.

With the exception of Pikmin 4, odds are very in line with your expectations.
 
So, now that people speculate about a new direct in September, we are going to see new leaks as we approach the estimated dates.

Can’t wait to see the new names of the sequel to BotW. Let’s see how inspired is people this time.

I remember one of those "leak" lists of E3 2014 that had "The Legend of Zelda: Shard of Nightmare" as the title of the upcoming Zelda game for Wii U. I actually wanted it as the title for BotW soooo badly.

I think we'll get a title that nobody expects.

I'll go there only expecting Metroid Prime Remake and Fire Emblem Next as those are the games with the most reliable leaks that are coming soon. I'll be pleased to see both. After finishing Three Houses and Dread I just can't wait to see more of Fire Emblem and Metroid.

Zelda is a thing I'm better not expecting and getting surprised when it comes lol. It's definitely time to see it though.

Then the wild stuff that we know is coming eventually that can happen any time is what drives me more excited. This one is bound to be a great Direct. I can't wait!

Gotcha thanks. I'll be interested to see how far apart they release the 2 2D games.
 
If we get a new Rhythm Heaven game I might self combust lol that is like a dream wish that I have no expectation of actually happening. Otherwise, I believe in BOTW2 info and the fall switch sports update for sure. Everything else is kinda fair game in my head.

Also my money is on Sept 1st at 10 am est so that the direct is on Sept 1st both in Japan and all the way to West Coast america.

God, I really hope we see the new FE at the September Direct. I am so curious and excited to see what it looks like, and what the scope of the free-roam exploration is like. And of course hear the new anime theme song in the reveal trailer that this game is inevitably gonna have lol. March 2023 release, book it.
 
That scene, at the end of Return of the Jedi, where the entire galaxy is celebrating, that's Famiboards when Nate says a Direct is coming.

fun fact, I really struggled with making the poll options. It was such a mess of slashes and hyphens that I wound up just going with my own time zone. I probably should've gone with a "week of x" format, but I was so flustered that I would up going with this awkward phrasing instead

Thats wrong. The updated english Article did bring clarity - neither Nikkei nor Furukawa did say anything about new hardware, just that this FY all 3 Editions are continuing to be on sale.
