Zelda fans when another direct with no botw2, Splatoon fans when they don't get a 3 hour long gameplay video showing everything in the game and Pokemon fans when they go 3 days without a trailer

Could anyone confirm that Pokémon Direct/Presents showcases are usually followed by a regular Nintendo Direct, like the following week?
It's not like I try to get my hopes up :coffee: Just simple pattern analysis that should give us all the answers we need!

Are we already at "Directs could go away" as it was big theme in 2020?
Yes. ResetEra mods have made the decision to shut this thread down, because it’s obvious that not only are Directs gone and never coming back, but Nintendo is done holding anything that can be called an “event” and thus this thread should be locked.

It's not 100% a pattern iirc but it is an occurrence that happens regularly

Nintendo skips one June Direct and suddenly people think they've been radio silent the whole year.
It's like a high school teacher getting bent out of shape over participation grades.

Nintendo Directs are serious gosh-darn business, eh.

I still think there should be some sort of presentation because I can‘t believe that they recorded a whole Treehouse thing just for LiveALive. If they only have some twitter drops this month without Treehouse, there had to be some major change of plans behind the scenes.

Also Treehouse for Xenoblade 3, Everybody's 1-2 Switch and Splatoon 3. Seems good to me.

EPD 9 is on the same floor as EPD 3 (Zelda). In Spring 2023: BOTW2 has gone gold hell yeah, what about your game EPD9? Oh, we are doing Booster Course Pass you didn't noticed?
Aonuma:"Hey we just released the most ambitious game Nintendo ever produced, wanna see it?"

Yabuki:"Sorry I don't have time for new hair cuts and prestige project shenanigans. Gonna work on ARMS 2, Wace Race and MK9, see ya around chump"

Further focusing my energy to help bring the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Wave 2 into existence this fine morning.

I fear some may have taken my previous posting to suggest that I'm over-invested in the hype cycle; I'd want to clarify that it's the lack of communication from Nintendo that's frustrating me overall. Can't even blame them when Covid hit the brakes hard globally; we have a goddamn easy plague to defeat and humanity is failing that miserably.

Twitter drops are not ideal, but at least it's something.

All that being said, if this week ends without consequence it might be as good a time as any for me to step away for a month or so to keep me sane.
yeah, it feels like some have taken my statements to mean that I'm really emotionally hurting from this

people who have been around for a while know that they'd know if I were

I can only laugh when someone says the next time we will see BOTW2 could be as late as February Direct.
BotW 2 will be a eShop shadowdrop without much fanfare and will just exist as if it was always there anyway.

I'm honestly incredibly pleased with the Switch's output this year, especially for the remaining months, so I find it hard to look forward to seeing even more stuff. Though next year does admittedly feel very quiet at the moment.

In regards to Nintendo:

In June: Mario Strikers Demo, Strikers Reviews and release. Xenoblade 3 Direct, Partners Showcase, Live A Live demo and Treehouse, and anticipated third party releases such as MH Sunbreak and Cuphead DLC

In July (so far): Splatoon 3 OLED reveal, Xenoblade 3 and Live A Live previews, Splatoon tourney.

Nintendo has had something to be in the news cycle almost every week, and plenty for Nintendo fans to be excited about. I get some disappointment but I don’t think we should act like Nintendo’s been silent or not doing anything.

Live a Live isn't a Nintendo game. It's a Square Enix game published by Nintendo in the West, and that video was almost definitely Square's idea instead of Nintendo's (especially since it's all in Japanese, the language of the region where SE themselves are publishing/marketing the game). In terms of actual Nintendo titles, their channel doesn't have a single interview in the past year.
It may not be an internal Nintendo title, but this is still an interview with developers similar to what we used to see during Treehouse Live pre-pandemic; not to mention if this video was SE's idea I'd imagine it would be on their channel which it is not.

If Nintendo thinks Twitter drops work for them, then go for it. They know what is best for them.
Yep. It's annoying, but they have the data.

Maybe they think that not doing a summer Direct is better for their summer games. Why announce a full slate for fall early when you want people to buy into summer?

To be completely honest the General in Summer was always a fucking nonsense, especially after June Partner which was basically full E3 Direct minus First party titles. And I still don't think they would ever discuss a First party games without a NCL presenter.

How come? If it releases Holiday 2023, why wouldn’t they show it in February? Not saying that’s the plan but it’s perfectly reasonable to think they may not show it in 2 months in a presumed September direct and wait until closer to release to do a deep dive

It releases in Spring 2023.

So here's the big thing we've learned: when unshackled from E3 Nintendo wants absolutely fucking nothing to do with summer. News in Q1, news in Q3, that's their groove.

Once you recognize the secret reason for no general summer direct, you will feel ashamed of your words & deeds.

The Square Enix channel has no Live a Live content: https://www.youtube.com/c/squareenixna/search?query=live a live

And, no, it is not a Nintendo title. Neither was Octopath, or SMTV, or Bravely Default 2, or Triangle Strategy. They're third-party games that Nintendo publishes (in the West only) and gives prime-time Direct time to in exchange for timed - or exclusive - console exclusivity. As such, you simply can't use it as indication that Nintendo themselves wants to do more developer interviews. It's as much an indication of that as the game itself is of them suddenly doing a HD-2D remake of Earthbound.

This is where I am at.

Live A Live next week. Xeno 3 for the majority of August. Then Splatoon 3 consumes us all. Lots of smaller meals along the way. Still need to check out Neon White.

So seeing new stuff now would be nice. But I also don't mind waiting with so many great games on the horizon!

Switch Sports interview happened not too long ago.

Will it though, that was just its first delay.

Jkjk, I don’t want to manifest that
I know it's Zelda but I don't think it will be delayed again. The game was probably scheduled for 2021 before COVID and it's already a year later after pandemic. This game cost so much many and it takes too many EPD resources, Zelda needs to release in Spring and am sure it will, it's been a plenty of time.

I'm a Nintendo fan, I'm not excited for the games they've announced and are releasing soon. I'm only excited for the rumored games or games I hope they announce, until they announce them, then they're old news and I don't care anymore.

Honestly at this point I wish I DIDNT know a pro was coming so I could 1) justify buying an OLED model to replace my dying launch unit and 2) be pleasantly surprised when it actually gets announced lol

...OK? This has literally nothing to do with the point I was refuting lol
You have said that Nintendo doesn't want to do interviews and that Live a Live doesn't disprove your point. And I said that Nintendo did the Switch Sports interview.

That‘s true for sure. And I understand that they can‘t explain every internal reason why they do something or not.

But it would be sometimes cool if they would communicate a bit more. I mean for example it would have been no problem to say like at the end of mai, that there will be no June Presentation because there is no E3 but that they will have a direct later in the year or so.

I understand that they want to always generate hype and announce stuft with short notice because of that. But I feel like this strategy dosen‘t work always.

Sounds like a good time to give a franchise you previously didn't like a chance again while waiting for an announcement for a personally preferred franchise.
