Just catching up with the Mugiwara nonsense, that's totally the type of thing I would've been all over if I had been online much yesterday. Glad I missed it.

I miss SuperMetalDave's powerful home console NX speculation and leak discussions just for it to be crushed by a Hybrid announcement.

EDIT:

If you ever wanted to see that something inside a person is dying then that's the perfect video for it. It was L after L for him.

I mean....was there for Astral Chain?

I really think it could reach 1.2 million IF its a great game and reviews great.

Yeah I think the reviews scores are going to be a MAJOR factor.

I'm interested in seeing it again. Is the Kaiju battles the major gimmick? If so, I don't know if that is enough to bring in a new audience alone. Astral Chain had the benefit of releasing earlier on the Switch lifespan and had enough of an unique angle that potentially attracted in new customers in which aren't necessarily interested in a solely third-person focused combat game.

I could really see Bayo 3 getting lost in the fold if it has underwhelming reviews, and I don't think it will have much to do with Splatoon 3.

Hey don't call it nonsense, there's still a day for them to keep their organs and for @bellydrum to lose their account!

Or not, I'm not sure how the timeframes work on that (because it was never really clarified and obviously fake to begin with)

I feel like FamiBoards doesn’t care about Bayonetta and it makes me sad

I get so few interactions when I talk about it lol

The IP has such potential, it’s so unique in the industry.

I wanna see Bayo 3 so bad, it’s the last missing piece in the 2022 lineup that needs to be slotted, really surprised I seem to be one of the few that’s anxious to get an update
It's been years since you posted this given how this thread moves, but I thought I'd answer anyway. I am very excited for Bayonetta 3 and have more confidence in a Nintendo x Platinum collaboration than I do Platinum solo these days. Astral Chain might actually be my favourite game of theirs and it's something I'd dearly love to see continue.

While it seems to be the case Bayonetta 3 has had a rough development, I don't think it'll ship until Nintendo are fairly confident in it. Having a critical darling enthusiast series is pretty much why Nintendo support the series; protecting the quality associated with Bayonetta is something I think Nintendo are invested in. Otherwise, would they really sink nearly 5 years of funding and support into such a relatively niche project?
Yep. It's annoying, but they have the data.

Maybe they think that not doing a summer Direct is better for their summer games. Why announce a full slate for fall early when you want people to buy into summer?
I think is part of what's going on. E3 being cancelled means there's zero external incentive for Nintendo to promote things in any order other than the specific order they choose, and we're seeing them focus largely on the summer output. I'm still confident in a September Direct, because we only have one game set for 2023 and because it provides that concerted marketing boost which both coincides with TGS and precedes the major shopping season.
What are your guys most anticipated game for 2022?
1) Xenoblade Chronicles 3
2) Splatoon 3
3) Bayonetta 3
4) Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
5) Live Alive
Can someone fill me in on why we are still expecting Zelda ports?
Personally it's been a while since I expected either Wind Waker or Twilight Princess to show up this year. If Breath of the Wild 2 is first half 2023, I don't see Nintendo needing or wanting another Zelda title at retail in the second half of 2022. The series might have been annual over the last decade, but Nintendo also treat it as the prestige event. That'll be especially true of BotW2, the sequel to one of the most important and acclaimed games Nintendo have ever released.

If there's any evidence that Breath of the Wild 2 is going to end up in the second half of 2023, then all bets are off when it comes to a retail Zelda release later this year. Personally I'm hoping we get something different on the eShop, like a new spin-off, or a digital only remaster of lesser known Zelda titles. Four Swords Adventures HD would be my first choice, but it'd be fun to see Tetra's Trackers get an international release. Wildcard choice is Tingle's Freshly Picked Rosey Rupeeland getting a surprise remake.

Bayonetta 3 will pretty easily outsell Astral Chain.

Not sure where the doubt is coming from.
It's the "3." I think that'll be a factor.

Kamiya saying you should really play the first two games will be a regular reply to newcomers asking "should I jump in with 3?"

I feel the same way about Xenoblade 3 and its sales potential (which has also been an interesting discussion). Larger Switch userbase, but also more "required reading."

So this week could be quite full it seems. I wonder how full it will be cause having Bayonetta, Pokémon and Mario Kart in one week seems a lot. On the other hand during a Nintendo Direct it would be on one day so :p

It really does feel like Nintendo was gunning to have Zelda out this year right up until the delay.

Which isn't to say this year is bad without it. It's still a great year. But it does feel like a LOT of their marketing push would've gravitated around Zelda this year.

I still maintain Zelda will be one of--if not THE--biggest Nintendo launches of all time. Maybe only under Animal Crossing and Smash.

I think Bayo probably will outsell AC. This is the first Bayo releasing after the character's inclusion in Smash, it's a decently known property within gaming, and though the series is definitely niche (though AC was too), I don't think Wii U numbers are a particularly good guide considering... it's the Wii U.

You want lore? Okay

* Hidden text: cannot be quoted. *
This is incredible, seriously! Thank you for all the lore! I haven't been involved in any (gaming) forum for like...5-6 years? Used to be in them quite a bit, and even further back to newsgroups (holy crap...), so I've missed a few "generations" of forum things. It's cool, though, because I do remember some of the users on here from back in the day since they've kept their usernames, so that's been pretty awesome!

Thanks for the update again, though! Really great work you all are doing on here, and the whole atmosphere you've got going on is really nice, pleasant, and fun! I've enjoyed it a lot, so great work everyone on the team!

Imagine tomorrow is actually a Twitter direct, and they announce everything throughout the day. Starting with SplatoonJP announcing a testfire with a trailer, and then Pokemon, Mario Kart and Bayo throughout the afternoon (EU time)

It is a super interesting comparison, seeing how we have three 3s (Bayo, Xeno, and Splatoon) launching this year.

I personally think Nintendo has done the best job of growing and building the Xeno franchise on Switch, and I actually think it (Xeno 3) has the best chance of the three to become the best selling in its respective series.

Splatoon 3 will eventually have its tentacles cut off with a new hardware launch, and the current marketing approach is not nearly enough to make up for Bayonetta 3 being a single SKU versus the OG Bayonetta.

Bayonetta 3 will pretty easily outsell Astral Chain.

Whilst I think it'll probably outsell Astral Chain in the long term, I do think that Bayonetta 3 releasing in late October is a really strange choice if true. It'll be competing heavily with not only with massive tentpole 'non-Switch' releases like Modern Warfare 2 and God of War: Ragnarok, but with the Switch's own M+R: Sparks of Hope and Pokemon as well. Hell, it'll be a Platinum game on Switch literally competing with a Platinum game on Switch, as NieR: Automata releases earlier that month. All without the brand appeal of a Luigi's Mansion 3, or the 'Christmas Gift' appeal of a Ring Fit Adventure.

Personally, if it does release then, I'm just not gonna buy it then. My action fill will be quenched with God of War shortly afterwards, I'll likely still be playing Sparks of Hope, and Modern Warfare 2 is gonna be a time-sink any which way.

I miss @Mugiwara already
I mean they're not banned, probably just got bored of the bit
Guess I forgot to pipe up of my own accord 😅 Mystery solved! Thank you for letting me know 😊
If you can show you actually donated before the cutoff, I'd imagine you're still eligible? Obvs that's an admin decision but it seems worth checking, it's a cool tag that makes you seem very important

I got 3/4 through this post before I realized AC meant "Astral Chain" and not "Animal Crossing", I assumed it was just a very sincere sounding shitpost lol

I don't know if it was brought up already but Nintendo has shot a new video in Girona recently. Going by the pics with the red and purple flags it is most definitely related to Scarlet and Violet.

I am not really familiar with timing regarding video shoot but maybe someone has an idea as to when we can expect the end result ?

Haha, actually is pretty interesting! I wonder what they are filming there?

To revise to my post from yesterday, if we get both Bayonetta 3 news AND Mario Kart 8 DLC news this week I will build every single thing in my Labo VR Kit that I haven't touched since 2019.

I will require photos of you with said Labo kit, both before and after construction, with current newspapers to prove veracity. Please and thank you!

Good. That kit and the vehicle one are actually legit.

They usually do live action commercials for Pokémon right? I wouldn’t expect this until close to launch

Mario Kart news vs Pokemon news vs Bayonetta 3 news fighting for the spot this week:

"BUT WHAT'S THAT??? SPLATOON 3 JUMPS IN FROM THE TOP ROPE AND TAKES THE WIN!!!"

(In all seriousness, I don't think we've ever had a Splatoon 3 announcement leaked/rumoured. Anything could happen anytime with that game)

Mario Kart DLC could easily get an announcement on Thursday for a 'surprise' release on Friday. Or it's next Friday, which would be pretty much 4 months since the first wave.

I'd consider it a possibility but it isn't likely

If I had to guess I'd say Bayonetta and Pokémon

not sure what's happening with Mario Kart tbh

The first wave released on a Friday.

Wednesday/Thursday announcement or even just shadow dropped to end the week wouldn't surprise me at all.

Switch Pro announcement with those games running at 60fps hehe
thoroughly envious of your ability to keep the fire

I spoke so highly of optimism but everyone has a breaking point

Kirby turning into a tiny ball on a big cake and fighting other Kirbies to see who can be the fattest Kirby was mine

What was the cutoff date? I have an email receipt dated for October 5th 2021 when I made my donation haha

Bayonetta 2 was 60fps on Wii U; Bayonetta 3 will likely prioritise 60fps over resolution/graphical fidelity.

I gotta say, I'm actually really looking forward to that

There's definitely no new hardware in July tho. The vibes have faded.

I broke with that too lol, but I recovered because I have a little secret...

...thinking that the first party games I'm really excited about deserve a better hardware than this old tablet, so they better delay them 😎

I hate to even entertain this, for my own sanity

but someone in the hardware thread pointed out that the PS4 Pro was revealed in September and released in November

maybe Nintendo will follow in the footsteps of the true market leader? please??

You want them to follow in the footsteps of mobile? Yearly model updates and only F2P microtransaction games.

I should've pivoted away from playstation memes smh

That also leaked to hell and back. Maybe I'm misremembering, but I think the fact that it was releasing that year was a given well before the announcement.

I think it's still more likely than not it beats Zelda to market, for whatever that's worth.
