Only reason I have my doubts about Switch's successor console happening earlier than late 2023 is because I feel like Nintendo will want to position a new Mario Kart game within its launch window as their big sales driver, and it's hard to imagine that while DLC for Kart 8 is still ongoing. MK and 3D Mario are imo the big things they'd be priming up.

But I guess we'll see what happens! It doesn't feel like we're working with traditional console cycles, and the next Switch is bound to be backwards compatible anyway.

That's one of the strongest argument to believe that the next console is either late 2023 or 2024.
The next Mario Kart should in my opinion absolutely release within the first 12 or even 6 months of the new hardware; it helps the console selling, and it just doesn't stop on selling throughout the entire generation. As you said, it's doubtful that a new Mario kart would release before 2024, even though I'm willing to bet that the development of the game is probably well underway.

Anyone else sometimes feel like deleting every profile on the internet you have and just, go dark for a while?

Yup. With support of MK8 and most likely Switch Sports ongoing through end 2023, it’s hard not to see a successor coming until early 2024. It’s why so feel Nintendo will position this as a revision and not a true successor.

2024 seems early for Mario Kart. I think they'll need at least a year and a half after support for 8 Deluxe ends. Maybe 2025 to 2027.

I can see 2024, following the dlc, if the new Mario Kart is a big departure from the standard formula; and honestly, I think that the series is ripe for some changes. MK8 is the ultimate refinement of the standard formula and the dlc makes it a monster of content. Nintendo just going the smash way would be creatively bankrupt and I hold them in higher opinion. Not everything needs to be smash.

The next switch is backward compatible. And gurl, BOTW is a port and so is Mario Kart 8. They don’t need new anything tbh esp now maybe two gens ago sure. The next Mario Kart will still be a switch game.

The way generations work now and the fact that games are live services and development landscape are so much more advanced. Games can be updated indefinitely without needing a real sequel. Games can be on the most advanced machines or on a toaster.

The Mario Kart DLC arguments are so weak for that reason alone. Xenoblade DLC and Mario Kart doesnt tell us anything about when the hardware is coming. It’s telling us that Nintendo is adapting with the times by making their games live services with updates for YEARS to come.

Everything is fluid from hardware to software.

If Nate doesn’t say he’s heard anything by the end of next week, then I’ll think we’re not getting anything until September. He always hears about directs a monthish so of before. We’re already in this window.

Nate have more access to info about third parties, I think it will be more difficult to him to have access to 1st party stuff.
He’s knows about Fire Emblem, Metroid and Xenoblade. These are first party IPs. He already said he heard whispers of something potentially happening in July, but doesn’t have anything definitive yet.

Isn’t it weird that Nate doesn’t get shut down? What is his link to Nintendo? Do marketing people at NoA know his identity?

Edit - I forgot he has a podcast, so they must

Only issue I have with the links awakening remake is that framerate seems to be a pretty big issue

The Mario Kart on the Switch successor will be Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Deluxe and will have all of the DLC of the Switch version.

I'll admit they can be annoying but they never ruined the game for me, they seemed to vanish very quickly other than the swamp area, and hopefully a new switch can fix that problem.

Metroid Prime Federation Force remaster might be worse lol
At its core, Federation Force isn't a bad game or even a bad concept for a game. It just had the worst possible timing and worst marketing imaginable. If it were released on a proper console with an art style more true to Metroid Prime and in the midst of the Metroid series being healthy, it could have done pretty well. Unfortunately, the name is forever tainted by that initial reveal and release timing, and no amount of effort gone to improving it will ever be satisfactory;.

I don't know about the legal side of things, but there's probably a difference between what he does and someone who leaks screenshots or uploads internal documents to the internet.

Again, not sure about the laws, but his caution with things probably helps.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC allows Nintendo to take their time with MK9 for Drake, the fact that it's being supported until 2023 means there will be new MK content early on the console's life while waiting for MK9. I think the fact that so many big titles are releasing on the Switch and getting long term support shows that Nintendo wants to keep the public trust on the old hardware getting supported more than '2024 earliest release date', keeping people on Switch 1 subbed to NSO is of vital importance for Nintendo.

Yep. They talk about numbers of active users with their investors now and about maintaining the link with players in the long term through the Nintendo Account. Software shortfalls and maintaining customers from one generation to another were acute during the generational transition last time around; I suspect this factors pretty heavily into Nintendo's thinking when it comes to second generation Switch hardware.

Ease of transition is key and Nintendo know that.

Personally I think a presentation by mid July is likeliest in terms of timing, hardware or no hardware. I think Nintendo would want any news to have time to filter through and circulate ahead of reviews and Xenoblade 3's release in the final week of the month.

We might simply see news split up into their own announcements, though I'd prefer the Direct format, Mini or regular.

I get knocked down

Minions came out. Looking to open at 90-100 million. I forgot the original prequel got to 1 billion. And this is a sequel to that prequel. So might get over 500 million. Been a while Since an animated film reached that

Yeah, another success for the Minions.

I’m more looking forward to see how Mario does at the box office then reception honestly. I’m not expecting a great film and granted I have no desire to see it with Chris Pratt. But minions have gather such a huge following and there films gross so much. It’ll be interesting to see.

What about the worst timeline where the Metroid Prime Remaster is just another Star Fox Grand Prix?
If that would happen I would actually start to play games just so I could quit them.

I could see Nintendo doing a mini direct to announce a couple games, release dates + third parties that weren't ready for June, but it feels like they've already given most of their 2022 plan. I could see them just sticking with twitter announcements too... 🤷

On what grounds could they shut him down

The Mario Kart on the Switch successor will be Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Deluxe and will have all of the DLC of the Switch version.

I know you're not serious but can you imagine if they pull some antic like that? Mario Kart 8 ultimate. Everyone is here, all the races from all Mario Kart games etc.
I think that I would scream "fuck you" at my screen.

I really hope they go with a mini over twitter drops, I need some first party hype.

Post direct clarity hits hard. Speculating feels like a waste of time now lol.

Nate said he had heard rumblings of something in July, but nothing concrete right?
maybe he meant the potential rumbling in his stomach because he will go to Subway this month?

you know what I could totally see happening in this thread?

After an uneventful first week, hype and hopium start inflating with the expectation of a hardware reveal mid-July.

Rumblings of something start to happen, and hype skyrockets far past unsafe levels. We catch wind of something being announced in a matter of days. Might even be next Monday the 11th!!

11th rolls around and they announce... a Direct. Shit goes pandemonium. Half the site is melting down over a hardware reveal, the other half is freaking out and trying to remind the melted half that hardware doesn't get revealed in Directs, but to no avail - patterns have been thrown out the window and hype has infected every single person in this thread.

Then the Direct rolls around and it's entirely software-based with not a crumb of hardware for the rest of the month.

I hear things but those have nothing to do with anything related to Nintendo or of this Earth

Kinda feel like this is the timeline we're in.
