Why would Nintendo release BotW 2 in spring 2023 the release a new Switch 5-6 months later?…like you’ll delay BotW 2 or maybe it’s coming in spring with it
They relied on third parties (a lot money hatted) to support the console early on, the idea was probably to let them establish an userbase and then the big 1st party games would come. 3rd parties failed to deliver especially in the West(a lot didnt make it to the launch window) and Nintendo had to enter panic mode with the price cut and focusing a lot of their internal teams on the 3DS to save their golden portable line. Is also important to remember that with 3DS they tried to literally steal Sony portable line market share, a lot of JP games it got support early on were from devs that were the biggest supporters and reasons for PSP success (Square Enix with KH, Capcom with MH/RE, Bamco with Ace Combat, Konami with Metal Gear, etc) , and in the end it worked even if Sony decisions with the Vita made it even easier.I didn’t realize how dire the 3DS launch was… oh dear LOL

Steel Diver
Nintendogs + Cats
Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition
The Sims 3
Madden NFL Football
Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D
Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
Ridge Racer 3D
Super Monkey Ball 3D
Bust-A-Move Universe
Samurai Warriors: Chronicles
Asphalt 3D
Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs 3D
Rayman 3D
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Shadow Wars
But it’s launch window/ year included more interesting titles:
Ocarina of Time 3D came out in June
Mario 3D Land in September
Mario Kart 7 came out in December
this was tragic and they asked for 250-260 USD for this
Price drop came clutch!

If Nintendo starts paying again these 3 and a lot more would come, but that strategy didnt work out.man, the 3DS had Madden, The Sims, and Street Fighter
switch could never
1. I can’t remember which game, but there was a picture or render of the oled in an E3 trailer. What E3 trailers? All of them used the regular switch and had awful overlay of the video on it.
These aren’t really anything major fwiw, it’s just background work being done by Nintendo for upkeep.
Afaik, Apple has yet to delay a product because of the shortages.
They still managed to release something.
Oh ok, thought if at the end of the month it would be 2-3 weeks after. Hardly call that the SGF direct , June direct though?
Yes, that’s what we thought at the time, but in retrospect it’s clear it was the oled.I don't recall this, are you referring to the supposed smaller bezels on some gameplay footage? That may have just been poor cropping.
If Nintendo starts paying again these 3 and a lot more would come, but that strategy didnt work out.
Just skimmed through the E3 Direct and I didn't see any shots like that. They framed Mario Party Superstars footage on the Lite and original Switch, then later Skyward Sword HD on the Lite, and that was it.1. I can’t remember which game, but there was a picture or render of the oled in an E3 trailer.
2. The m2 air is releasing sometime in July, it was supposed to release at wdc. According to Bloomberg there is also a 15” air that’s delayed to next year.
It wasn’t in the direct. Believe it was some indie game.Just skimmed through the E3 Direct and I didn't see any shots like that. They framed Mario Party Superstars footage on the Lite and original Switch, then later Skyward Sword on the Lite, and that was it.
Payed NDAs?I'm starting to think Nintendo actually payed NDAs for delaying release date announcements.
If it wasn't even a Nintendo-produced trailer, then obviously it didn't have any OLED "footage" in it.It wasn’t in the direct. Believe it was some indie game.
Even JP 3rd parties were flaky at the outset of the 3DS and most ended up dipping for the most part. MH was the biggest get that entire console cycle for Nintendo outside Minecraft. Why else did Silksong, Persona not give Switch release date announcements.Payed NDAs?
I never said footage. There was a picture of a switch with skall bezels. If it wasn't even a Nintendo-produced trailer, then obviously it didn't have any OLED "footage" in it.

If it uses the same M2 chip, the delay isn’t due to the chip, it’s for something else. That does not mean Apple stopped producing M2 chips because of some issue at the semi, they delayed a product that will use the chip that their other products will also be using.1. I can’t remember which game, but there was a picture or render of the oled in an E3 trailer.

Does it really matter if the delay is for the chip or some other component, if the end result is a delay? If it uses the same M2 chip, the delay isn’t due to the chip, it’s for something else. That’s not really comparable to say switch 2 which would be the only product with the chip (for a while anyway).
As for your first point, can you find it because idk what game you are referring to.
I know, that's why I put "footage" in quotes. There would be nothing indicating a game running on the OLED in a non-Nintendo-produced trailer prior to the OLED's reveal, since no one knew about it (and even if they did, they wouldn't be allowed to use it in marketing).I never said footage. There was a picture of a switch with skall bezels.
Seriosly, do i need to dig it up?
Comparisons can't be made about the runup to the original Switch and the new model. The former was announced ahead of time by Nintendo, and represented a significant new hardware proposition and shift in their business, in addition to replacing the underperforming Wii U. There was lots of juicy stuff to investigate and report on. The latter is some kind of revision of an existing concept, and has not been announced in any form, so there is less interest and less to report about it. On top of that, it's really not like there hasn't been reporting on it anyway. Its likely most significant new feature, 4K support through DLSS, was already reported by Bloomberg well over a year ago. We've known specifics about this hardware for much longer than the we did the original Switch!Looking back at news videos, the first "leak" we got of the Switch was through a Botw patent that indicated cartridges as a media format, which was in early July. Eurogamer then reported on the NX a week or so later. Then the flood gates began. We should expect more info by august at the latest then right, even for a March release?
With thight deadlines and shifting plans, it is possible that some things can go under the radar.I know, that's why I put "footage" in quotes. There would be nothing indicating a game running on the OLED in a non-Nintendo-produced trailer prior to the OLED's reveal, since no one knew about it (and even if they did, they wouldn't be allowed to use it in marketing).
Getting back to the original point, there's no reason to believe Nintendo ever intended to "show games running on the OLED" at E3. So where that notion came from is likely just the speculation of people who didn't really know the concrete plans of either the OLED or the upcoming new model and were just trying to come up with what they thought was a plausible schedule for the hardware they thought was coming.

Of course it matters, the implication is different and the results are different.Does it really matter if the delay is for the chip or some other component, if the end result is a delay?
Street Fighter was a weird internal fight in capcom. It did Amazing on 3DS and consoles in general. Then Capcom got moody and said the game wasn't profitable enough so that's when Sony Stepped in and moneyhatted. All of the various versions of 4 ended up selling almost 9 million Units. So it was absurd to say it was a failure. If Nintendo starts paying again these 3 and a lot more would come, but that strategy didnt work out.
I think you're just describing regular NDAsWhy else did Silksong, Persona not give Switch release date announcements.
I'd caution against expecting a mainline Mario game to be released along with the movie, and it having any influence on the Drake release window. That's not how blockbuster film marketing works. Here is the list of all video game adopted movies released in the past 10 years with a budget over 50 million USDs:About this I'm still hoping. Just because two factors:
1. We will get a Mario movie;
As @Dakhil pointed out, the reference design of the UFS Card reader is by default microSD compatible. There were some Samsung and LG laptops with such a card reader, and also this Chinese external reader. Unfortunately, AFAIK none of these products are in production anymore. While I don't doubt that Nintendo would be able to find a willing partner to produce the 2.x version of UFS Cards and readers, it does put a damper on the probability. But that would mean that the new hardware has to support both microSD and the new memory format. It could be done but I’m not so sure about it.
Maybe if they use a multi-format reader like some laptops.
Got a picture? If it's just gameplay footage overlaid on a Switch with neon red/blue joycon I'm assuming it's poorly cropped. I'd be interested if it were otherwise.Yes, that’s what we thought at the time, but in retrospect it’s clear it was the oled.
So last year around this time, Mochizuki and Emily both stated that the 4K Switch reveal was "imminent" because Nintendo wanted to reveal it before their E3 Direct to show off games running on it. Is it somehow possible that they got that information correct, but a whole year early? Could it explain why this year's Direct is seemingly so late in June? They previously have revealed system revisions in early July, so maybe this is them splitting the difference?
I know it's reaching and the date was "before or after", but where does the conflation of "devs/Nintendo want to 'show the games off' in the Direct" come from? Someone had to relay that intent to MZ or Emily, right?
I mean, the OLED was revealed 3 weeks after E3. So in hindsight, it seems very likely that Nintendo was contemplating announcing Dread and the OLED together at E3. The "4k" thing was likely just another example of incomplete info being misconstrued. Same with "developers". And since, as far as I recall, there have been zero new reports/leaks about Drake itself by either of them, I imagine it could have been their source that got it wrong. Which would make them reluctant to use their info again, even if they had any. And even though those reports were out a couple weeks before E3, any source info was a bit older I would have to assume.Getting back to the original point, there's no reason to believe Nintendo ever intended to "show games running on the OLED" at E3. So where that notion came from is likely just the speculation of people who didn't really know the concrete plans of either the OLED or the upcoming new model and were just trying to come up with what they thought was a plausible schedule for the hardware they thought was coming.
I will make an effort to dig it up.Got a picture? If it's just gameplay footage overlaid on a Switch with neon red/blue joycon I'm assuming it's poorly cropped. I'd be interested if it were otherwise.
Ok, then that's settled. That pic from last year is definitely NOT the OLED. Maybe it was meant to represent the upcoming OLED but if you look closely there are a host of differences.
The volume buttons on top are the older style rather than the flatter style on the OLED, the KCD image is larger even than the OLED screen & bevels, the light monitor & speaker cut-outs are visible beneath the KCD photoshop, and the KCD image itself has some awkward cropping around the edges.
So I ran comments through DeepL and this is what I got:
"Yesterday I had dinner with friends talking about games (distribution, industry, new releases, behind the scenes stories, etc.). We had too much fun. The food was too good, we ate too much, but we also had good digestion. I wonder when I will be able to eat that level of meat again. The amount of information and content was so dangerous that I decided to forget it as soon as I heard it. It's not safe to talk about it, even if you only remember bits and pieces of it.
Nintendo is a big jerk. I can't stand them.
As usual, information and rumors are flying around before E3.
I'm too excited about the announcements of SONY, Microsoft, and Nintendo.
I know Nintendo is relentless.
Will that thing be released?
Will it be announced that it is?
Nintendo must be able to afford it.
Xenoblade DE.
Xenoblade 2.
The screen resolution is so low in portable mode that it makes me feel depressed when I'm playing. I wonder if they can do it now.
I believe that Nintendo has a hidden gem even if it is leaked."
Anyone here who can read Japanese at a high level? This anonymous Japanese Twitter account belongs to a buyer for video game stores (or so they claimed). Recently the person seems to be hinting at something noteworthy is coming from Nintendo. My Japanese reading is absolute pants, and the machine translation doesn't help when the writer is being deliberately opaque. If you can, please help decipher the tweets below.
[June 5th] The person had a meal with some industry friends and received some "dangerous" information about Nintendo (among other things)
[June 8th] They heard some pre-E3 rumors, and opined that Nintendo is "relentless/merciless" (unclear what they meant; is Nintendo going hammer the competition?)
[June 15th] They posted two tweets back-to-back, 1) pondering whether "it" would be announced/released, and 2) thinking that Nintendo can afford to (afford to what—to announce? to wait? unclear what they meant)
[June 15th] They ostensibly complained about the handheld mode resolution of Xenoblade DE and Xenoblade 2, and believes that it can be improved "now".
[June 15th] They think that despite the (FE?) leak, Nintendo still has gem(s) hidden
Obviously I don't know whether this person is legit or if any of these are related to Drake at all. For what it's worth, last year when Bloomberg reported a "4K" Switch being forthcoming, they called out Mochizuki as "delusional". So they just might have some insights into this stuff.
I figured it was more about cracking down on leaks if this guy is actually hearing leaks. The idea of Nintendo being relentless/merciless - really want to know what that line is about.
Unless it’s just about their legal team issuing takedowns for literally everything then nvm.
Just entertaining the possibility. How is this not a nothingburger? Rando tweets stuff that’s generic as all hell. Can someone fill me in here?
I personally agree. I think Nintendo's probably doing a hardware reveal before or after a Nintendo Direct.I don‘t see them doing a major Hardware reveal during a direct.
The timing of the direct being right around their annual meeting of shareholders actually suggests if they announce hardware it'll be separate from the direct but possibly in close proximity.I don‘t see them doing a major Hardware reveal during a direct.
