StarTopic Nintendo Direct Speculation |ST8| Press Your (Nintendo Direct) Luck!

Nintendo should announce a Direct on Monday, just so the internet explodes trying to figure out if they're joking or not
I’ll never forget the April Fools Direct they did have that showed off Tokyo Mirage Sessions properly for the first time. That was so rad.

Hey, y’all. Stepping in since I’ve received some DMs and since I was the one to volunteer all of those dates over a month ago, even though I told myself I was out of the event date leak thing a couple of years back.

I was feeling good that week, shoot me.

Here’s the post from back then.

I haven’t talked to the IW source in a few weeks (reached out today, didn’t get a response yet), but as far as I’m aware, that presentation could still happen in the timeframe I was given.

The April Direct is still a go as of last week.

But please remember that the last Direct was delayed by a week the week of, and be kind to Pyoro, Necro, Nate and whoever else decides to volunteer any further info. From my end at least, things only really start materializing in a solid way a week before the planned date. Until then, it’s always up in the air - which is why I promise I won’t talk about event dates anymore after these go down, hahaha.

I don’t know what’s going to be in this April Direct, but I’m definitely looking forward to it and my excitement will get another good boost once the calendar rolls over (Brazil’s update just now was my first). We should get some brand new Nintendo games to look forward to beyond Endless Ocean (Metroid Prime 4 and Donkey Kong? Plus may as well be new FE4 Remake?) and hopefully we finally learn what exactly is new in Paper Mario after learning nothing these past six months. I’m also just looking forward to hopefully getting a few big new third party games especially from Square who has been awfully quiet this year on the Nintendo front (they are killing it with Rebirth and hopefully the XVI DLC).

There’s certainly games I’m excited about in the next three months or so, but I know it’s not the most inspiring line up at least for a lot of people here. I’m really hoping we get some good stuff to all be excited about. That’s what I want most from this show.

When I heard that Nintendo had an indie booth at GDC, I began to suspect that an Indie World presentation could have been planned for pre-GDC to highlight games that would be previewed there (and potentially at PAX East) before the presentation was cancelled for whatever reason. The possibility of one still happening is interesting, and if it happens, I'm sure it'll be worth a watch. That said, it's the rumored April Direct that has my attention.

Rumoured April Direct? This is it. This is gonna be the one (where Metroid Prime 4 appears).

Ignore that I hope for this every time. My hope shines eternal.

I‘m 100% sure, because a Direct without Prime 4 isn‘t a Direct. Ergo, there never was (and never‘ll be) a Direct without Prime 4, so I can say with safety, the next Direct‘ll contain Metroid Prime 4.

Me three months ago: if the new Direct doesn’t have a new DK game, DKCR port, and Wind Waker Twilight Princess HD it’s gonna be a terrible Direct

Me now: I’ll be happy with Luigis Mansion 1 hagi port

Thanks, I appreciate the fact that you and others in the know share what you can about future annoucement. Blessed.

The new TTYD trailer yesterday made me think of this one:

It basically also only showed the intro of the game. When it was released on June 6th, there was also some doubt about there not being a June Direct, but it not revealing any gameplay made it pretty clear there was still plenty more to reveal for a trailer in a Direct.

2 weeks later there was indeed a June Direct with a new trailer.

Might it be possible we get a sort of repeat here from a marketing pov? Drop a smaller trailer 2-3 weeks before the Direct to get people talking about the game again, then a meatier trailer during a Direct, followed by the start of the marketing campaign, one month before launch?

I love patterns…
…if they hold up.

April.

April is the 4th month of the year.

Fire Emblem 4 Remake.

Fire Emblem Anniversary is in April.

Metroid Prime 4.

Potential Direct in April.

4 is the magic number guys!

I never lost faith in the April Direct, in a year when we had no Nintendo announcements in February and the last original release happened in late March, an update for the year in April seem reasonable as June feel a bit too far away.

I'll choose to believe that the slate of NSO releases announced last year in the Direct being done just before April adds fuel to the fire!

Honestly I hope the direct will be boring, and no MP4.

I don't want MP4 on Switch, I want it as a Switch2 exclusive that takes full advantage of the hardware.

Appreciate the update from Brazil and hoping April does turn out to be the month for the next Direct

I had a feeling that the last Direct being delayed might have spooked a few people into holding onto their info a bit longer until things are set in stone which is fair enough when you risk getting a backlash for something that's out of your control.

Anyways, April is around the corner so I can start putting my FE4 remake clown make up on again!

Folks, you should not DM people like Brazil, Necro, Nate and the likes just because you want info and are impatient ...

Be better.

Came in expecting to see the NSO update reigniting the April Debate only to see Brazil himself wade in. Neat.

Fwiw I think an April Direct means no (traditional) June Direct.
If April is the "last Switch Direct", June seems like an obvious place for the next console teaser

Part of me refuses to get hyped until we get confirmation for any April Direct

The other half says LETS GO FIRE EMBLEMS

if nothing else some sort of TTYD info feels like a lock for it

April: General Direct
H2 Switch lineup announcement

May: Next Nintendo Hardware Press Release
Generic press release at/before the Investitor's meeting claiming the Switch successor will launch this FY.

June: Switch 2 Announcement Trailer
Like the October Switch 1 reveal, with a March 2025 release date.

September: General Direct
Mix of Switch 1 and 2 games, but with a bigger focus on the former

January: Switch 2 Direct/Presentation
Switch 2 Infodump + launch lineup revealed

March: Switch 2 release

That's my guess for the schedule up to Switch 2 release.

We're speculating that an April or May General Direct will happen because, as of right now, we do not know Nintendo's H2 software lineup, and I doubt that's something they would Twitter drop. Assuming the hypothetical June Switch 2 reveal is a thing:
  • We get an April General Direct.
  • A General Direct doesn't happen in April, but will happen in May.
  • A General Direct doesn't happen in May.
  • Switch 2 reveal in June.
Or:
  • Early June General Direct
  • Late June Switch 2 Reveal
Yup, I agree with you.

The problem with a May direct is that Nintendo does not get anything good with hiding their lineup of second semester.

Even if it is bad, why hide? They never did that before. The only hide their games when they don’t have anything to release in the 12 months or when they are preparing a new console.

I find hard to believe they don’t have anything to show since they can prepare many remasters. So I have the opinion they only have games for switch 2 and we won’t have a big cross gen of Nintendo made games.

So I still bet no direct until june.

I wonder Namco delisting Tales games from PS3 mean we'll get remasters at an imminent Direct? They always have 3-4 remaster releases per year but so far they haven't announced anything for 2024. They definitely have something up their sleeve.

I mean didn't they show most of their H2 2023 slate in June last year? It's not like they were "hiding" anything then or now

I’m sorry that ppl are DMing you, they really shouldn’t be doing that (especially if unsolicited)

How many “this is the last Switch Direct” are we gonna get before it happens? 🤣
Even if the successor is revealed this summer for launch in March 2025, we'll probably have a fall "Switch 1 only" direct to hype up the holiday games and whatever is coming out in Jan and Feb of 2025

Nintendo will 100% make a game announcement in April.

I feel very natural that they release a new presentation in April as we don’t have any games announced/dated for july and forward.

3 months between a game announcement and its release its fine.

In worst case scenario, they will just dropped a trailer of an announced game via twitter and thats all.

And there is also rumours from Jeff Grubb that Prime 4 marketing will begin in May.

But well, following Brasil timeline, I believe in an April direct with big focus in their H2 lineup from them and their third party partners.

Yeah, considering Switch is still getting crazy stacked schedules, wouldn't be surprised if the Switch only September Direct is more packed than any direct before it.

One of them has a Bravely announcement, could be a big thing, bigger than 2.

I enjoyed the Partner in February, I have a big backlog so a June General would be ok, but I always look for more games to add to mine tbh lol

I have maybe 30+ 2D/3D platformers so far...

Fiscal year earnings report is 5/7 (5/8 in NA?)

That’s earlier in the month than I had thought. I expect if we’re getting an April Direct it’ll be towards the middle or end of the month. Let’s say 1-2 weeks before Endless Ocean meaning anywhere between 4/18 - 4/25 so they don’t overshadow that game and can drop a demo in the eShop.
